Learning about Compose (not the UI toolkit)

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 03:16 AM PST

Stumbled across this post by Jake Wharton. I'm curious is there any documentation or learning resource about Compose in general that is not focusing on the UI toolkit? (more into the compiler, the under-the-hood architecture, etc.)

What legal documents should your app have?

I know the obvious is a Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, but what other legal documents should you have publicly available for users to read?

Releasing app to Google play Store for a big company as an intern with no seniority at ALL (What I need to do so)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 03:50 PM PDT

I am not sure if this belongs here if it doesn't please redirect me because I am in a mess right now.

Over the past few months I've been seeing posts over licensing and needing to encrypt my api keys and everything else and I am being overwhelmed.

I am an intern who got hired in a big company to write their mobile application and I did so from scratch and with no help from a senior developer or a developer of any sort close to Android.

As a person with 1 year and half of experience in Android and I have no experience in releasing an app to Google play store.

What are things that I need to do in order to release the app?

Licensing? Encryption? I don't want to get official Google company account banned due to silly mistakes and j do not want to be the reason this company will never have a mobile app up in production. (I know how to handle a production app but I don't know how to handle MAKING it production!)

Please refrain from judging my company for using me as an intern like countless others did. I just need advice from seniors thanks ❤️

    DiffUtils.ItemCallBack

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 05:35 AM PST

Hello, so i'm having a little problem with DiffUtils.ItemCallBack. Using ListAdapter, after i submitList(list) from Observe who observe LiveData in ViewModel, the new and old items are the same.

in the method AreContentsTheSame i used Object1.equals(objects2) (i override it in my class Object).

    Any ideas?

Making Saving Android Application State Possible

Does Android verify the file signature when sideloading an OTA update?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 05:05 AM PST

I have an unlocked Pixel 6 Pro on the Verizon network and therefore cannot receive OTA updates (see here), so I need to sideload the VZW build of the Nov patch to fix that. I'm always paranoid about downloading/installing software without properly verifying it.

I see the OTA page lists the SHA-256 checksum for the file, but I'm curious - what protection is built into the OS to prevent installing an image that's been tampered (e.g. if that site is compromised)?

For instance, Linux ISOs usually use GPG key verification to verify the file's checksum has been signed by the presumed/verified author.

    Blackfriday help xps13 linux or M1 16gb

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 02:52 AM PST

Have only few hours left to decide before Black Friday expiration.

My linux box would be Intel 7 11 gen xps 9310 with 16GB, I would run i3wm manjaro android studio, but if I can have much_more_battery_endurance_and_performance in few months with silicon I would go with an M1 16 gb.

Between dozens of Youtube video, official documentation that do not know if is updated, dozen of stack overflow posts, old reddit posts, I am really confused on what is the status at NOV21 , and ask help to the community that has real life experience because RTFM does not help.

I repeat I look for battery (at least 5 hours heavy gradle building while traveling) and performance running AS whatever version, all the rest does not count to me, budget 1k-1.6k EU, Not imporant but nice to have: crispy video, and eventually some python ML operativity

Android Fake ID, Reddit, i need your help !!

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 01:10 AM PDT

Hello Reddit, I need your help. I'm sorry if it's not the right to post, i'm new :)

    Let me explain:

I have a program (a private chrome extension) very important. However, in order for it to work it must be connected to a machine, only one, if I want to change machine, I must reset to unbind it and re-use the key.

I would like to use my extension on pc, and phone at the same time so two devices.

Is it possible to change the ID of the phone and emulate the PC one in order to have the same ID, so the program think this is the same device ?

    Thank in advance,

    Elee

Is it possible to verify AdMob address without a physical PIN?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 02:51 PM PDT

I'm seeing this message in AdMob:

    Your ad serving is disabled

Your ad units aren't serving ads in your app(s) and you're not being paid. This is because you haven't verified your payment address. Please contact support to verify your payment address.

So apparently I have to go to AdSense and request that a PIN be physically mailed to my address. Problem is I live in a corrupt s-hole where mail rarely ever gets delivered. Is there an alternative way? I read that (and I'm not sure if it's true) if you exhaust all your PIN requests then they will instead ask you for proof of identity where you just provide them with photos of your passport, and they verify it in 24 hours. But to exhaust the PIN requests would take exactly 9 weeks. Is there a way I can just verify my identity with my passport right now?
