Swift Backup 3.7 adds Android 12 support and uses Shizuku to perform batch backups without root

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 01:29 PM PDT

Pretty significant update to Swift Backup - a comprehensive app and data backup solution on Android (and alternative to Titanium Backup) - just got released. Version 3.7 not only adds Android 12 support but also uses Shizuku to perform many batch actions without needing root.

While you still can't do a full backup of app data without root (understandable), this should help speed up making and managing manual backups of your installed apps.

I personally can't wait for the day when Android has a complete app data backup solution. I know the security reasons why Google lets developers opt out of backups, but it's such a PITA setting up a new phone (at least when switching OEMs.) It's taken me hours to set up my Pixel 6 Pro.

Anyways, here's the full changelog of v3.7.0 (taken from Swift Backup Telegram channel):

    📢 Important notice.

    • If you use an SD Card with Swift Backup, you will need to set it again so the app can request permission via the system 'Files' app.

    • 'App + Split APKs' is now shortened to 'APKs' and just 'APK' is shown for apps with a single APK.

    Android 12 support

    • Android 12 is now fully supported. In a future release, you will also see Material You theme support.

    • Swift Backup now targets Android 12 (SDK 31) and requires the new 'All files access' permission.

    Shizuku support

On non-rooted devices, Swift Backup now supports Shizuku and can perform many batch actions with ADB access provided by Shizuku.

✅ Below app related features work in Shizuku mode as these features only require ADB access:

    • Batch Backup of supported* app parts (*See below)

    • Batch Restore of supported* app parts without user interaction (*See below)

    • Batch Enable/Disable apps

    • Batch Uninstall apps

    • Backup/Restore of app permissions

    • Toggling battery optimization state of an app

❌ Below features don't work in Shizuku mode and ABSOLUTELY require root access:

    • App 'Data' backup/restore i.e. the 'real' internal data that stores app login details, settings, databases, etc.

    • On Android 11 (R), app External Data and Expansion backup/restore. Works on other Android versions with Shizuku.

    • WiFi passwords backup

    Other changes

    • Apps: Added support for app 'Media' directory backup (Eg. Android/media/com.example.packagename/)

    • Apps: Faster loading of apps list, slightly faster file operations

    • Apps: Improved and more precise progress indication during app backup and restore

    • Apps: You can now clear app data parts (Data, Ext. Data, etc) individually in the detail screen for an app

    • Apps: Added ability to batch delete only 'Archived' backups

    • Apps: Labels are now synced in realtime on other devices a user may have

    • Apps: New filter 'Labelled apps'

    • Apps: New built-in labels available in Schedules and Configs as per user requests

    • Messages: Fixed an MMS restore issue on MIUI ROMs

    • WiFi: Backup/Restore open WiFi networks

    • Schedule: Added support for Wallpapers and WiFi schedules

    • Schedule: More customizable minimum battery percent requirement (10%, 20%...etc)

    • Cloud: You can now 'Save' and 'Load' your cloud setup parameters for SMB, SFTP, FTP and WebDAV servers using a location picked from your system file picker. These options are in the 3 dot menu of the setup screen. You can also save the settings from the 'Cloud sync' tab.

    • Cloud: Some bug fixes related to OneDrive, Box, WebDAV, SMB, FTP

    • Fixed a root access issue on some older Samsung devices with stock ROMs

    • Long pressing the Google sign-in button at app startup now starts browser based sign-in. This is helpful for people having sign-in issues when using a custom webview like Bromite.

    • Other small fixes and improvements

Just seen this when I was trying to copy a message. But as of now, the emoji clicked doesn't appear in the message. Maybe they are testing it. Proof

Google Translate has a neat Material You redesign that went live on the Pixel 6 series a few days ago, but with version 6.25 rolling out via Google Play, that redesign has reached other Pixel phones, including the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5.

Here's an album showing the new design.
