Can we talk about how Material You has only removed customization options. Posted: 29 Oct 2021 11:32 AM PDT Just got Android 12 on my pixel 5 yesterday. For an update that's marketed as being about "You", all Google has done is removed options to customize. Let's refresh ourselves on what Android 11 can do.
Now let's look at Android 12 with Material You.
That's it. This is objectively worse for customization. I have less choice when it comes to colours, and I have no choice of quick setting icon styles, no choice of app shapes, no choice of font, and no saved profiles. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Oct 2021 01:21 AM PDT I just realized that i probably have to use my Pixel 3 until i die. I ordered a Pixel 6 despite the size, i thought maybe i will get used to how huge it is. It came on wednesday and the first thing that came to my mind as i was unboxing it was how damn huge and heavy it is. So today is saturday and i just shipped it back to Google. It is just too huge for me. I cant comfortable use it with one hand. I just searched a price comparison site, with filter for maximum length of 150mm and listed since 2021 and the only phones were iPhones or weird crappy phones. I hate iOS and i know i will never get used to it, so there is no option for me for a new phone and i hate it. There are soooo many options for big phones but none for small ones anymore. Posted: 29 Oct 2021 08:20 AM PDT I'm seeing a lot of feature related reviews and some positive response for the latest update. As a Pixel 5 user I have to say I'm not finding the visual overhaul to be very intuitive, and I'm not personally seeing any useful improvements. I don't use widgets really so that's probably part of why the benefits are lost on me. But usually after a day or so I get used to a visual update and move on. This time I find myself continually bothered by the changes. Am I the only one? Curious to see others' thoughts, both positive and negative. [link] [comments]

Pixel 6 Pro vs. Samsung S21 Ultra (Snapdragon) Actual Comparison Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:02 PM PDT Alright, I've been comparing the two side by side for about a day now and there are some GLARING differences that I have not heard mentioned or seen in reviews. I don't know how it's possible since if you compare side by side it's incredibly obvious, but here we go: To set the stage, I've owned every Pixel since the 2 except for the 5. Have owned OP 7Pro and S21 Ultra the last few years in between and was extremely excited about Google finally making a flagship. Sadly, I think they fell short (except for the cameras.)

Posted: 29 Oct 2021 01:37 PM PDT Hey. Ive noticed apps grouped together now look completely different. They now protrude past the circle and the background is no longer clear. Am I the only one who doesn't enjoy this? I feel it looks unfinished as if the mask layer is missing. What do you think? [link] [comments]
An alternative to Magic Eraser Posted: 29 Oct 2021 08:33 AM PDT All of you know that Google recently updated it's Photos app by adding a new feature "Magic Eraser" which i personally like very interesting. Though it is limited to pixel phones only, u can still have that feature [not comparable to what Magic Eraser does but almost same] in the app name "PicsArt". You can access that feature in Tools->Remove section of the app and its available to Premium users only. But the Android users know how they could access it ¯_( ͡° ͜Ê– ͡°)_/¯. NOTE: I know some of you may about this feature but i thought why not share this info which will help others to access it easily. [link] [comments]
Google / Android Backup Greyed Out / Screen Lock Preventing Backup (Pattern, Pin, Fingerprint) Posted: 29 Oct 2021 04:06 AM PDT Anyone wondering, I believe I may have overcome this somehow so will post what I did to see if helps anyone else. Had the same issue with my new Google Pixel 6 Pro. I saw the below on another forum which originally didn't work for me but I added a few further steps to it and it seems to have done the trick. It is well known that if you backup with no security method enabled on the phone then it will work, although that isn't safe and convenient. Initial Method Delete back-up service on phone. (toggle) AT THIS POINT IT STILL DIDN'T WORK FOR ME. I then.. Disabled backup from settings which will ultimately delete any that is present. Deleted my security pin and fingerprint. Deleted the cache on my Google 1 app. Re-enabled backup from settings (but didn't run it yet). Opened the Google 1 app and the option to Backup on there was greyed out. Left the Google 1 app open in the background. Go back to settings and run the backup manually. Leaving the settings pane in the background, toggle back to the google 1 app and watch the progress of the backup on the homepage. Verify it has been successful by checking when the last time is shown for the backup to have been completed. Once completed, go in to Google Drive. Menu, Backups and verify the backup is present there for your phone. Then re-enable your security pattern / password and fingerprint. (I chose pattern instead of pin on this occasion, but I have since added Pin and it seems fine). Once completed, verify in system settings / google 1 app that the backup is still present. That is for the first backup only. for automatic backups from here on, I'm still unsure. Will have to wait and see. [link] [comments] |
