Do you still prefer fingerprint readers on your phone? Why or why not?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2021 10:40 AM PDT

I've been using an OG Pixel 1 XL for nearly 5 years or so now. It's getting to the point where I'm considering upgrading my phone. But one thing I've noticed from the new flagship phones is that the fingerprint readers are gone. This is something I use dozens of times a day to login to my phone and damn near every app that requires a login.

So I'm curious: is this something that most people have moved on from? Do you still prefer it? if not, what do you use now? Are we back to typing in passwords/pin codes for things?

For added context: I'm considering getting a Pixel 6, but I'm actually leaning more towards the 5A simply because of the fingerprint reader on the back. It just seems so integral to accessing my phone these days.

EDIT: I'm realizing that just because I don't see a fingerprint reader on a phone's design doesn't mean it's not there! I had no idea side fingerprint readers and under display fingerprint readers existed! I guess that's what happens when you take a 5 year break from smartphone shopping. Makes me wonder what else is new that I don't even know I'm missing!

    Spotify App New Look

    Posted: 18 Oct 2021 04:59 PM PDT

Is it only me or did anyone else notice Spotify made the bottom bar (Home, Search, Your Library) background transparent with the latest update? Previously it used to be greyish dark if I remember correctly. I think this one looks better.

Finally Found out how to move apps to SD card on Android 11

    Posted: 18 Oct 2021 04:31 PM PDT

I have a cheap Samsung A01 with Android 11. It only has 16 GB so about 2 months ago I litteraly spent days trying to figure out how to move my apps to SD Card. I looked all over the internet and reddit until I finally came to the conclusion there is no way to put apps on SD Card these days. I read so many comments about how android and phone companies took the move to SD option off so you would have to buy a phone with alot of storage space. Noone had an answer. Well guess what? I found out how to do it 2 months later by accident.

I was trying to clear some storage by deleting whatever file was not needed and deleting Cache because my phone only had 2 apps on it that didn't come with the phone and I still only had less then 1 gb of storage and it was starting to lag Alot. I usually do this by going to settings and then making my way to apps. Lastnight I went to the Samsung file manager and was clearing storage instead of using the android manager. I click on a few apps that are taking alot of storage and delete the caches then I click on one of the apps that I downloaded. I think it was Telegram app. Well I click on storage and to my surprise for the first time I see what I have already accepted as impossible. Its a button with the option to change storage.🤯 I was so surprised! Hail to the change storage button gods!!! I wasn't sure weather I should feel like a genius or a dumbass. The option was there the whole time. Even on the Samsung A01 subreddit noone had an answer. Everyone accepted the false fact that it was impossible. What I think is android took the option away but Samsung didn't or they recently added the button in an update. I'm not sure but I know at the time I tried to solve it noone I seen had a solution except buy a phone with more storage. If this isn't a surprise to people then excuse my mini rant and excitement. I just don't know how I overlooked the solution then accidentally find it 2 months later. I can't remember i if I tried to use the Samsung manager at the time. Hopefully this comment at the least helps that person that is frantically trying to move apps to SD so they can keep reddit ( reddit moved to SD!! IM SO STOKED!!) and other apps they actually want.

I'm curious if this is still an ongoing problem for people.

Do you think 3rd party devs neglect Android (compared to iOS)? And does this affect your decision to stay on Android?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2021 06:31 AM PDT

This is something that's been bugging me for some time.. As much as I love the Android OS and the variety of Android devices, the lack of care by 3rd party devs is so annoying..

We have some cool, highly performant, innovative devices, but sometimes I feel like "what's the point of having so many awesome cameras etc. if I can't use the most popular app in the world, WhatsApp, to take and send a simple non-blurry photo?"

I feel Android and Android OEMs are improving every year, with better software support and new features, but the quality of apps compared to iOS is just not very good...

And can Google/Android even do anything about this?

New Samsung tablet listing on Sam's Club?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2021 07:20 AM PDT

I was looking at tablets on the Sam's Club app because my old tablet just broke and saw some new listing I don't think were supposed to be up yet. Anybody hear anything about Samsung Palletes yet? They showed up when searching for Samsung Tab so I presume they are an upcoming tablet. I really need a new tablet soon so I'm curious if a new tablet is incoming and if I should wait a bit.

Edit: Here (https://imgur.com/a/0uGhUKa) are some images of the listings. The prices seem to be 799.99, 999.99, and 1199.99 USD.
