Rumor: Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra to take on iPad Pro with Exynos 2200 chip

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 04:54 PM PDT

According to a post on Korean forum Clien, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will use the upcoming Exynos 2200 with AMD's RDNA2-based GPU. The Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+, in contrast, might only get the Snapdragon 895. Whether the Exynos 2200 will perform as well as the Apple M1 remains to be seen, though recent benchmarks show that it at least outperforms the Apple A14 Bionic.

The Galaxy Tab S8 line might be announced alongside the Galaxy S22 next year.

Z Fold 3 was the perfect device for my Labor Day weekend trip!

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 05:50 PM PDT

For Labor Day weekend my best friend and I went to Houston, normally I like to take my smartphone and a laptop. For this short of a trip, I decided to pack light: My new Fold, clothes, charger, and a power bank. I'd like to just list out the moments where I felt the Fold came in handy.

    • At the airport, used the front screen to scan my boarding pass, and head into the lounge.
    • At the lounge, front screen again to scan in, I then used two apps side by side, Google Keep and Chrome, just going over places and things to do once I got to Houston. I also switched to running FB messenger and the Fly Delta app side by side to just make sure my flight was on time, seat confirmed, and communicate my ETA to my pal.
    • On the plane, big ole screen watching The Office, real nice to have that kind of screen real estate right in my pocket, vs a laptop bag.
    • At IAH, meet my friend, get into the rental, rental car does not have navigation, used split screen for Google Maps/YouTube Music split it 75/25 so I had clear view of the map and my friend could run the tunes on our journey.
    • Throughout the trip, having Maps and Resy (reservations app like OpenTable) side by side, or Maps and Keep side by side to see what we could walk to vs drive to.
    • YouTube while the screen is half folded/device propping itself up enjoying breakfast at the hotel.
    • Split screen Uber and whatever I was doing earlier so I know when to be outside, so I can avoid keeping the driver waiting.
    • On the way back, was at the airport lounge with a couple hours to kill, split screen NYT/Relay for Reddit, FB Messenger/IG feed, etc.
    • Waiting for my layover flight, split screen Snapchat and Squarespace, car club wanted to hold an event, used the real estate to make a new page on our events section and go back and forth with club members about the details. Snapchat is a weird choice for a group chat but here we are lol.
    • After the trip, a different bank app on each side, calculator in a pop up window so I could calculate how much we spent and split expenses between us. I got this idea from a Mr. Mobile video on the Fold 3.

Some thoughts about the device itself

    • Front screen is very one hand-able when you're holding a drink and walking around.
    • Battery life is good not great, 4400mah is enough to last a full day without actually using a power bank, but I can't squeeze another day without rationing the use of my device.
    • Build quality feels good, this is my first folding phone, news about the OG Fold had me concerned, but after a few bumps, spilled tequila, etc, she's a trooper.
    • I feel like folding devices can be a part of the future, but this is not a device for everyone, if you really like having a big screen, I say go for it! If you're not really into multiple apps or having such a big display this might be a pass for you.
    • It's heavier than a regular smartphone, but it wasn't heavy enough to bother me.
    • Cameras are fine, they're pretty good but it kind of bums me out they're not Samsung's best for $1800
    • Speaking of cameras, the UDC, this thing is a miss for me, its less noticeable than a punch hole sure, but not almost invisible like the Axon 30, and there is sharp nosedive in quality.
    • Crease is about as annoying as a punch hole or notch, not a deal breaker in the slightest, you lose sight of it when looking dead on actually.
    • I got the S Pen Fold Edition at a Samsung Experience store while in Houston, very nice to use! Love the feature that lets you write over a text box and it will auto convert it into text for you.
    • This thing is an attention getter, I had 3 different folks stop and ask what it was I was holding, and 4th was when the TSA agent's mind was blown, he called he co worker over to check it out and we geeked over tech for a couple mins.

I hope I provided some insight on the use case of a pricey folding phone!
