Even tech sites don't tell you display dimensions and it sucks! Posted: 25 Aug 2021 09:21 AM PDT With all the elongated screens on devices now, normal diagonal measurements aren't useful anymore. I really wish sites like GSMArena would tell you the height and width of displays. Especially because width determines the largest you can view pictures and videos in fullscreen without cutting anything off. For example, the Pixel 4a has a 5.8" display. But for non-stretched 16:9 pictures and videos, you can only view them at 4.9" because of the width. It's really frustrating that this info can't be found anywhere when tech sites list so many other specs. [link] [comments]

Discussion about Google's Find My Device service Posted: 25 Aug 2021 08:27 PM PDT Google's "Find My Device" service is really bad in my opinion. Reasons:
For comparison, Samsung's "Find My Mobile" service works much better in my experience:
This seems like a very basic and important function, but I don't think Google has improved it in years. If you share my frustration, please take a minute to send feedback to Google. You can do so on a Pixel by going to Settings, Tips & Support. If you have a different perspective, please share your thoughts. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Why do tech review sites hide certain embarrassing camera specs? Posted: 25 Aug 2021 09:42 PM PDT So I've counted on a number of tech Review sites for any phone purchase decisions, my favorite for specs being GSMArena. I noticed this a while ago that very often they end up missing out on some of the unflattering specs, where they proudly write the size of the larger camera sensors, while redacting/withholding information about other worse sensors. Eg 1:Notice how in this LG V20 spec sheet (Direct Link), only the rear cam size is shown, while the tiny front cam is hidden.(screenshot). It's not like front cam details are hard to obtain. Here are the requisite details obtained through various apps: And I'm sure there would be ways to do that without apps as well. So why would sites focus only on only sharing details easily available on advertising brochures, like how big the primary sensor is. If this additional info is easy to find, then they should make the effort and put them up on spec page, instead of just mirroring what is already advertised on the manufacturers' own websites. NOTE:
