    Can AndroidTV work without neteork?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 08:15 AM PDT

Let me explain why I want such a thing. All I need is to play media files from USB storage. No streaming of any kind. No ads. No system updates which breaks everything (like on MiBox). There are some boxes on Amazon like Micca, but they have built-in, unupgradeable player. That's why I want Android, so I can sideload VLC and/or Kodi and update them in case of new codecs.

    Need some Google Jedi help

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 03:56 PM PDT

I am trying to help my parents cut their cords and setting them up with Chromecast with Google TV. I can NOT figure out how to stop it from recommending things on apps they don't have. Am I missing it or is there no way to do this? I've unselected the apps in every place I can find. They keep downloading apps they don't have accounts for. Any help would be amazing! Thanks.

Need Help With Android TV Box (X88PRO10) and External Hard Drive

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 02:04 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I have had this X88PRO10 TV Box since November and it has worked remarkably well, only rarely having a few issues with slow loading. This week I got a new external Hard Drive (4.5TB) and I put some movies on it, hoping to use it with my android box (since my TV and DVD Player are both old and their USB port won't read USB3.0). However, it just won't load my video files. It can read some video files if they're not in a folder but if they're in a folder, the box just says the folders are empty and refuses to even display them.

I checked numerous times on other devices and my hard drives and files read, so the problem is definitely the box. I got this new hard drive because my old one (same brand, same size and still works) was getting full and it made loading files sluggish. This one has maybe a few hundred GB on it and as such should work fine, but instead it just doesn't go past the hard drive first page with the folders, which it insists are empty despite all other devices showing the contrary. I tried rebooting, unplugging, resetting the box, reorganizing the files on my drive and nothing has worked. I'm at the end of my rope here.

Could anyone help me figure out how to make it read my files?

    Live Channels and HDMI

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 11:16 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I factory reset my tv yesterday as no hdmi inputs were working. They would just flash and go straight back to home. Fast forward today, and I've realised when the live channels app is installed and you select 'always' open live channels instead of usual TV, this also forces hdmi to try to open with live channels and it doesn't work.

Does anyone have a workaround for this? We have just moved and have no aerial in the living room so I'm streaming from a tvheadend raspberry pi and was hoping to use pvr live and live channels, but can't if this is going to happen.

    Cheers

Android TV STB with HDMI Video Passthrough?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 07:35 PM PDT

I'd like to replace my Xbox 1 with an Android TV box. I do a ton of casting and while I enjoy my Google TV, I also have a very cheap satellite package with locals and a few other channels I watch.

I am looking for a setup like I have with the XBox 1 where Android TV is an overlay over the satellite and I can go back and forth with a single HDMI input on my receiver.

Googled a lot and found some from 2014-2016 that are no longer current. Most of the posts I find are talking about audio passthrough and I would like full HDMI passthrough.

Anyone know a box that will do that? I was kind of surprised the NVidia Shield Pro didn't have that.

TCL 43P718 : Apple TV and HDMI CEC won't turn the TV off

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 06:27 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I've got a new TCL 43P718 with Android TV to go along my Apple TV 4. I've enable all HDMI CEC settings on both the TV and the Apple TV.

But I've got a problem : when I use the Apple TV remote, I can't turn the TV off automatically. I can turn it on, but not off.

Whereas, when I use the TV remote, I can turn the Apple TV on and off automatically.

So why can't I turn the TV of automatically with the Apple TV remote? I've tried switching HDMI ports, I've tried turning on and off all the HDMI CEC settings, both on the TV and the Apple TV, I've reinitialized the TV settings, I've updated it… still no progress.

    Any idea what I'm missing?

If I have a Xfinity TV (subscription) can I somehow get that on my Android TV device (Shield), so I do not have to keep switching back and forth between my TV box and Shield?

Just as the OP says, thanks!

Looking for an HDMI switch that runs Android TV or can be controlled by Android TV

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 08:40 AM PDT

Looking to replace my Caavo HDMI switch since it's not getting updated to support newer devices at the moment.

Are there any 4 port HDMI switches that run Android TV or can be controlled via Android TV sorta like using an android TV box as an HDMI switcher.

    Thanks!

Has Netflix been killing anyone else's AndroidTV's performance lately?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 08:40 AM PDT

Starting about a month ago my AndroidTV performance would go to shit. It was super laggy and apps would crash endlessly. I would do a restart from the settings but the UI smoothness would only last for a few hours. I was on the verge of doing a factory reset when I realized apps could still be running in the background even on the home screen. So I systematically started force killing apps and have since determined that it was Netflix causing the issue. I would slowly stumble my way into the apps screen and the moment I force stopped Netflix, the UI would pop back to its normal, fluid self. Has this been happening to anyone else? I'm on a Sony Bravia with AndroidTV built in, if that matters.
