Android Questions: Press ONE to connect

    Press ONE to connect

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:05 AM PDT

Looking for an app where it will answer my phone and say something like "press ONE to connect" so that the bots won't get thru. Thought HIYA would do it, but apparently not ... other ideas?

Dropped phone in toilet. Device overheating message. :(

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:02 AM PDT

My phone is the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G. When I start it up, it works for a few minutes, and then the "Device is overheating" message comes on.

I removed the back cover and let it sit overnight in rice, but that didn't help. Should I remove the middle frame and battery and try that again? I suspect the battery may need replacing, but I'm not sure.

Picture in picture not working with Android 11 properly.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:59 AM PDT

So I just bought the oneplus 8t a few days ago. I'm pretty happy with it, but it has one issue that the pip doesn't work properly. I've seen other people with this issue and it seems to have something to do with android 11, but when I try and use it, it pops out, but it is in the bottom of the screen. I can hear the audio, but the actual video disappears.

It fixes itself, temporarily when I restart. I tried toggling all the settings, and rebooting it, but that seems to fix it only for a few hours or a day or so.

Work provided a new Android phone, how can I tell what "spy" software is on it?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:44 AM PDT

A lot (almost all) of people at work use the work provided phone as a personal phone as its cheaper than going out and buying the new Galaxy (or iPhone). The thought has crossed my mind, but the logical person in me says don't use work provided hardware for personal stuff.

I have to imagine people are using these work phones for things that are not work appropriate as this is their only phone (sexting, porn, etc..). Now, I'm not going to be watching porn or looking up gore videos, but I don't want work reading my texts to my GF either if I decide to add personal contacts.

What software should I look for? Its a Galaxy S21. They didn't even preload email, I had to download the outlook app.

Phone Needs Factory Reset To Exit Safe Mode

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:08 AM PDT

Hello, my Samsung s9+ recently got stuck in a boot loop and therefore entered Safe Mode by choosing an option in the android crash menu. After that my phone is stuck in Safe Mode as it wants me to back up my device and wipe it. Another problem is I can't backup it either. Smart Switch doesn't recognize the phone and Smart Switch runs into an error when installing Smart Switch on the phone.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

    Making Calls Without Unlocking Phone

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:03 AM PDT

At work people often ask to borrow my (personal) phone (Galaxy S10) to make a call, and I don't quite feel comfortable just handing it out unlocked, and would like to allow the phone app to be used while locked (the whole app, just the keypad, doesn't really matter.) I currently have the phone app accessible from lock screen, but it requires my passcode and therefore access to my entire phone. I've looked around a bit and can't seem to find anything. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Any way to "maximize" my wifi usage on the spot?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:36 AM PDT

as weird as it sounds, im looking for any help to max my wifi usage, be it through an app or something else. i've got a huawei that i kept as a backup phone and it's quite old, android 6.0 . The problem is that whenever i download something or load anything, sometimes it gets stuck with low data usage and then it uses a good amount of data. i have around 3/4 MB per second of constant wifi to use but it just doesn't use it whenever it needs to, it uses around 200/400KB and it's annoying. the only times it actually uses them is when i do a speedtest where it obviously uses all of it and it works great, but anything else uses a some of it and then goes back to 200KB per second. Is there a way to maximize the usage like when i do a speedtest? any help is greatly appreciated!

Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. Anything I can do?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:05 AM PDT

    Hi!

Yesterday my phone (Essential Ph1) was slightly slow so I figured I'd restart the phone. After taking forever to start, it said "Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt" and gave me the options to try again or factory reset. That was really surprising because it showed no signs of anything being wrong beyond lagging here and there until I decided to restart it.

Today I went to two phone repair shops. The first one seemed clueless, telling me to factory reset as there's a chance it might not delete everything but solve the problem, but even I know that that's not the point of a factory reset (or am I wrong there?). The second store seemed to know more but also basically said my only option is a factory reset. If it's a software problem that should solve it, but they said it could well be a physical problem with the motherboard and then that wouldn't fix anything.

Now my main problem is I haven't backed up anything in a long time (I know how stupid that is) so factory reset would delete everything which I'm hoping to avoid.

My main questions are: Is there even the slightest possibly of recovering my data on the phone with some workarounds? The phone is not rooted and I don't think bootloader is unlocked. Don't know if it's relevant but I think USB debugging might be enabled, and developer options might also be enabled.
If there is a chance to recover the data, I would probably buy a cheap new phone and hope to figure out how to access my photos etc at some point later.. I saw some good deals on some ok phones.

If there isn't anything I can do at all (no matter how difficult or low chance of success), I might as well bite the bullet and factory reset, which would be a shame and might not actually fix the issue. Also given the age of the phone and the fact that Essential phones don't update anymore, I probably have to replace it sooner or later anyway..

Any thoughts on what I should do? Is it pointless keeping the soft-bricked phone around hoping to find a solution later?

And less important questions: Some of the phones with good discounts were Huawei phones (P40 Lite & P smart) .. given their problems with Google would you recommend against buying one of those? Or are there acceptable workarounds for that problem?

Any opinions on these phones & deals:

    TCL 10 SE (128/4 GB) 130Euros (instead of 250)
Xiaomi Redmi note 9 (128/4 GB) 160Euros (instead of 270)
    Oppo A53 (64/4 GB) 160Euros (instead of 190)
    Redmi note 9 5G 180Euros (instead of 270)
Xiami Mi 10 Lite (64/6 GB) 240Euros (instead of 400)

I know it's a lot of questions, but if someone can answer my main questions I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks!

How to diagnose between screen or Mainboard malfunction?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:02 AM PDT

    Hi.

I have a Mi A1 that I changed the screen as the original one cracked. Absurdly, I did not test the screen properly and now I am in doubt whether the screen is malfunctioning or maybe I have a defective connection between the screen and mainboard.

    So, details:

When I turn the phone on, the screen lights up brightly white with the Mi logo visible at the bottom and the android one strip of colours in the middle. At this point, it seems the screen is perfectly fine, backlight (if there is one) included.

But then, when the screen changes to request the lock pattern to continue with Android boot process, it is all black and I can't see anything (the 3 navigation "buttons" at the bottom are ok, though), unless I shine a light onto the screen and I am then able to slightly discern the pattern dots and insert the pattern.

After that, the boot process continues but I still can only see anything if I shine the light onto the screen again.

I managed to access the phone and operate it by connecting it to the PC via USB and then running the scrcpy tool on Linux. That way I can see that the programs work and if I touch the screen it responds correctly.

So I don't really know whether the problem is the (backlight) screen, or maybe a faulty connection of the screen's flat cable to the mainboard (I've reconnected several times with no difference).

My doubt now is how I can fix it. Do I need to buy another screen or another mainboard?

Does anyone have an idea on how to proceed now?

    Thank you.

Will my new Samsung Note20 Ultra have ads in it's UI?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:00 AM PDT

I just saw on r/assholedesign or some similar sub that some guys brand new Samsung smart TV had ads in the menu and I physically cringed. Then I remember that I decided to go with Samsung last week and ordered the Note20 Ultra and immediately feared that the phone may have the same "features" as that smart TV. Can anyone verify if the newer Samsung phones support UI based ads? I have Verizon if that matters.

My Samsung s21 ultra lost service and it won't turn back on after multiple restarts.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:00 AM PDT

I lost service when I went into a Target store. And came out still had no service so I reset my phone. I got service back and was able to connect to the internet for a few minutes then it went away. Everytime I reset my phone. It comes back with full 4g LTE and I can use the internet but can't call or text.

When I turn on mobile data I get a notification to 'sign in to network'. If I ignore it the internet is fine but the notification keeps popping up every time I turn on mobile data. I've linked some of the screenshots.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:00 PM PDT

    image 1

Mobile data is turned on and it pops up

    image 2

I tap it and this happens

    image 3

I've tried 'do not use this network' and 'use this network as is'

    image 4

    This is the app information.

I've already tried register to network from the cellular data settings which I found on YouTube but it's not working.

I want to mention that the internet speed is still the same with this problem but it's very annoying to get the same notification every time I turn on mobile data.

My phone is always hot, what do I do?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 08:21 AM PDT

I've started noticing this about a week or two ago. Basically my phone is always hot/warm to the touch, in the same area that it usually gets hot in when gaming or doing other heavy tasks. I can leave the phone for several hours with the screen off and doing nothing (not charging either) and come back to see that it still feels hot to the touch.

I haven't noticed any performance/speed differences, but I did notice that the battery is dying much faster than it usually is.

I thought I might have downloaded some sort of virus somehow, as I have a few apk's sideloaded onto my phone... I looked through all my apps in the settings and didn't see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, but I really didn't know what I'm supposed to be looking for in the first place.

I also checked the the battery in my settings menu. It told me that "phone used more than usual" even though I'm using it the same as I always did. As I'm writing this the phone is at 32% with 1:24h of screen time since full charge, which was 5 hours ago. Nothing useful was shown if I clicked on battery usage from the same screen.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Will having multiple signed in accounts in one Gmail app drain battery life significantly?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:19 AM PDT

Hi, I have like 3 different emails signed in on my Gmail app at the moment. If I add or log-in 3 more email accounts (making it 6 email accounts in total in one app) will this affect my battery life significantly?

Although my phone is 4,300 mAh battery life, I'm not really experiencing battery problems at the moment. I'm just wondering if having 6 different email accounts in one Gmail App will affect background refresh rate?

    Thanks!

    Whatsapp Transfer

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 08:23 PM PDT

Hi, can I ask if there is any way that I could transfer my Whatsapp messages from an IPhone7+ to a Samsung A72? I've been reading up Internet but it seems like it needs to pay, is there any way that I don't have to pay and transfer it?

Whatsapp gallery issue +transfer from ios

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:06 AM PDT

1, I used samsung smart switch to tranfer all my photos from my old iphone, but the numbers just dont add up... Samsung categorizes the pictures differently, for eg the snapchat album is less, the video (movies album) is also less, but the total number if I add them all is more on the samsung than the pics I have in my main iphone folder. (My samsung gallery was empty before the transfer) does smart switch properly transfer everything, can I be sure of that its just diff categorisation? Dont really wanna go through 9000 pics one by one to see if its all there...

2, i also transferred my whatsapp data from my iphone and all the pictures and videos I had is now saved in my gallery... Any way to hide and turn these off? Ios had an option to completely stop media being saved from whatsapp but I dont see that on smasung. At the very least I dont want it to show up in the gallery because it created 6000 albums.. I turned media saving into gallery now but I cant delete all these pictures because it would also delete them from whatsapp.

    Small problem.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 04:26 AM PDT

Although I have posted this in another subreddit, I was not able to get a response. I recently found in the settings of my Samsung s21Ultra an icon that allows for the phone to be muted on and off by a tap of the icon.

The Icon is a little man with outstretched arms. He is located in the extreme lower right of the screen. It does exactly what I want. All sound on or off with a tap. But I forgot where I found this setting option and for the life of me I cannot locate it again. Where did I find this?
