3 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 183)

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 06:39 AM PDT

Welcome back, my fellow Android gamers, to a fun episode of my weekly mobile gaming recommendations based on the most interesting games I played last week. Hope you'll enjoy it :)

This episode includes two awesome and very unique bullet hell games and a physics-based puzzle game - all three of which are relatively unknown so far. So I figured these indie developers could use some more exposure :)

New to these posts? Check out the first one from 183 weeks ago here.

The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is.

    Let's get to the games:

Super Glitter Rush [Game Size: 56 MB] (free)

Genre: Bullet Hell / Arcade / Indie - Offline Playable

    Orientation: Portrait

    Required Attention: Full

    tl;dr review:

Super Glitter Rush is a fun bullet-hell arcade game with a great retro art-style and a unique level-based system where we fight just a single tough boss in every level.

To deal with the bombardment of bullets the bosses throw at us, we tap an Arcade Machine-style joystick to move our character left and right at the bottom of the screen, and shoot bullets straight up at the enemy using an action button.

Since any enemy bullets that are hit by our bullets get destroyed and increase our damage, strategically timing our attacks to remove as many bullets from the screen as possible is the only way to survive. What truly makes the gameplay exciting, however, is that we can only shoot three bullets before we need to pick up diamonds dropped by the enemy to charge up our attack bar again, which further increases the need for being strategic.

Although we don't grow stronger over time, we do unlock new cute characters and distinct color palettes that change the look of the game. My only slight frustration was that the joystick control wasn't perfectly optimized, although the developer is said to be working on a fix for that.

Super Glitter Rush monetizes by occasionally showing 5-second ads between levels that can be removed through a $2.99 iAP. The game offers a fun new twist on the bullet-hell genre that makes it perfect for short but challenging play-sessions because it skips straight to the adrenaline-pumping boss fights. So it's an easy recommendation for any fan of arcade games.

Salvagette [Total Game Size: 85 MB] (free)

Genre: Bullet Hell / Arcade / Indie - Offline Playable

    Orientation: Landscape

    Required Attention: Some

    tl;dr review:

Salvagette is a unique 2D turn-based bullet-hell arcade game where we attempt to destroy all enemies by crashing into them with our spaceship while avoiding a barrage of enemy bullets.

The goal is to get through as many stages as possible, but since time only moves when we move, we have plenty of time to plan and strategize. When we've destroyed all enemies, the next stage starts and even more enemies spawn. When we eventually die, we have to start all over.

To deal with the many interesting enemies that all have unique attacks, we receive gold for every stage completed that can be spent in a shop to buy health, a shield, increase our speed, or even deploy a bomb to destroy most of the enemies at once.

The game eventually gets incredibly difficult, but unlike traditional bullet-hell action games where winning often comes down to being fast, Salvagette offers a much more tactical arcade gameplay experience. We can even watch replays of previous play-throughs to study exactly where we went wrong so we can improve our strategies.

Salvagette is completely free with no ads or iAPs. Despite the somewhat repetitive core gameplay loop, its unique approach to the bullet-hell genre makes it an easy recommendation – especially for players who find bullet-hell games too fast-paced and hectic.

Gravity Song [Game Size: 184 MB] (free)

    Genre: Puzzle / Physics-based / Indie - Offline Playable

    Orientation: Landscape

    Required Attention: Full

    tl;dr review:

Gravity Song is a fun indie puzzle game that mixes challenging physics puzzles with arcade-like fast-paced gameplay that has us react quickly to avoid spikes, lasers, and escape from enemies.

Throughout the 90 normal levels and five survival levels, our goal is to get a small ball to the exit portal by simply tapping where to move. The further away from the ball we tap, the faster it moves, but the tricky part is that we only have a limited number of taps available. If we fail to get to the exit before having used them all, we die and must restart the level.

This seemingly simple core mechanic makes for a great gameplay experience when mixed with lots of different obstacles, gravity-changing elements, and enemies that constantly try to take us down.

Although the art-style is mediocre and the UI below average, the simplistic music is soothing, the puzzles are good, and the levels well-designed.

Gravity Song monetizes through incentivized ads that reward us with hints and the currency used to unlock new cosmetics for our ball. These ads can all be removed through a single $0.99 iAP. The relaxed monetization and fun gameplay makes it an easy recommendation for fans of physics-based puzzlers.

Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad is going to shut down from October 2021

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:13 AM PDT

Tom Clancy's Elite Squad was the first foray of the Tom Clancy games on mobile. It is a quick-paced 5v5 RPG where one can play with specialist operators from Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and Splinter cell. The game was released in the August of 2020. Since then, the game has amassed over a million downloads on the Play Store alone as a free to play title.

In an announcement on their website, however, it has been revealed that Tom Clancy's Elite Squad is about to shut down on the 4th of October 2021, a decision made less than a year after the release. While the reasons aren't specified, Tom Clancy's Elite Squad team (TCES team) feels like this is the right decision at this point in time.

To know more, you can read here or if you want to know how the game was in general, you can read the game review here.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:44 AM PDT

I used to love playing Shadowgun Deadzone by MADFINGER but the sequel is a different game and I don't like it. Is there any other game like that around?

Looking for a skill based pvp(1v1) game

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 12:47 PM PDT

Hey everyone. As the title says, I'm looking for a game that relies on pure skill, preferably one that doesn't rely on upgrade systems.

I used to play a game called Mayhem by Chobolabs, but it's either been taken down or it's impossible to find on the playstore, which used to be the perfect game. 2d platformer with different classes, no upgrading, nothing, just choose a class, ability, and play. It was a game where a newbie could go against the rank 1 player on an equal ground, which I loved. Eventually Chobolabs ruined the game by adding in level systems, but still, it was good while it lasted.

I would love something similar to that. I don't care too much for the genre, I just want to play a game that is fast paced, and relies entirely on skill rather than how much time I spend on the game.

For reference, currently the only game I'm playing is Archer of God, which is fun, but heavily relies on getting legendaries and leveling up stuff which is extremely hard unless you pay so that is keeping me from really enjoying it.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I'm searching for something with a heavy ambiance and a good story, i prefer it free, since i search this game for my dad and he's not that comfortable with paying but don't hesitate to tell me about premium games !

He doesn't care what type of gameplay, as for the graphics i think he dislikes pixel art

    Thanks !

    Hello !

I wonder what the community think about uniwar ?

I bought it years ago but it changed. Now you have to pay monthly to unlock qol and new units.

But the game seems almost the same that the one I paid years ago, I am a little upset

    Thanks !

Looking for a flying battle game I played in the past

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:23 AM PDT

I played this game a year or two I think, it was a anime/cartoony style arena game where you fly around an arena with your character and battle other players using powers and abilities that were animal themed if I remember. The game might have been in early access or not. Thanks!

Best Racing Games For Android 2021 - Android Hire

I'm looking for a game on Android/Play Store about Poker without money.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 01:41 PM PDT

The reason I'm asking you is because almost all games use Texas Hold'em, and substitute money for points. So, as you can see, I really don't know which game to choose. This is very important for me, so any help is appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
