| Posted: 23 Jun 2021 12:44 AM PDT For those looking for a new Android TV device I highly recommend the Nokia Streaming Box 8000 (if available in your area - otherwise try sourcing it from all the usual channels). Internally it is more similar to the new Google Chromecast with Google TV than to the Nvidia Shield, but what makes it the killer box for me is it is currently the only real Android TV device to have a full remote control including all the number and colour buttons, making it much easier to eg watch television on the box. | Any idea which version of android TV Home allows the "GoogleTV" UI Changes? Posted: 23 Jun 2021 06:54 AM PDT I woke this morning to one of my Nvidia Shields having the new GoogleTV-styled UI. I thought I'd give it a chance, but noticed immediately that it was advertising content from a service I don't have/pay for and it was for an app that wasn't even installed. This was a big NO for me. I followed advice here and already had Play Store auto update disabled, but the change was pushed server-side any way. According to APK Mirror, these were the most recent releases of Android TV Home since the last Nvidia Experience update was made available:
It's my theory that the last one in the list contains what's necessary for the server-side UI update to be activated and I'm hoping that one of the older versions won't have this or aren't ready for the UI update push/activation. So, this was my plan of attack.
How long this will last? Time will tell. If Google is able to activate the new UI with v3.0.10-352627830-f installed, I'll simply repeat the process and move on to the next newest version, v2.3.1-340788485-f. Based on the Android TV Home version numbers, I'm assuming that v3.0.10-352627830-f may contain the necessary updates to activate the new UI, however, I'm seriously doubting that v2.3.1-340788485-f does. At any rate, has anyone been able to determine when the server-side updates started being pushed out to activate the new UI, even on non-Shield devices? Might help determine which Android TV Home apk is the newest one we can use without worrying about getting this UI update. I will update this post if I have to go back to an older revision of the Android TV Home app to avoid the new GoogleTV-styled UI. Lastly, this isn't a post to start an argument whether the new UI is great or not. It's a post for those of us who don't like the new UI and how we might possibly avoid it. If you do like the new UI, I'm happy for you, please move along; this post is NOT for you. I don't need your input regarding the new UI at all. Thank you. Edit: Formatting/spelling fixes. Edit 2: For reference, I know there are 3rd party launchers available, but I don't really like the ones I've seen so far on the Play Store and seem like they take more work than I'm wanting to put in to make them how I'd want. | Walmart ONN AndroidTV .. why all the hate Posted: 23 Jun 2021 06:43 AM PDT Android TV is not foreign to my household with Shield TV, MiBox and builtins throughout the house. I moved my last 4k FTV over to this ONN and I can't see why all the hate around here for it. It just works. I added a dongle to add additional USB ports and runs off ethernet. Does 4k just fine w/ HDR. No picture quality issue, no color space issues. I'm streaming 4k rips (some 80G MUX ones) off my home NAS with my installed KODI without any issues. No passthrough issues with audio does DTS-HD just fine. Sure its not a pretty box, but I wouldn't say it's ugly and it's hidden for me. Not the type that likes to display all my devices across in front of the TV. lol My only gripe would be the 4G storage as I'm already topped out. It recognizes my USB stick just fine, but doesn't allow me to migrate apps to it, or utilize it for additional storage in any way. I saw some post on solving USB stick issues with ADB commands, but those are dated post so not sure if they're even worth trying on Android 10. Has anyone figured out how to use additional storage on it? [link] [comments] | ||

| Is anyone else having issues with Android TV on Sony Bravia? Posted: 22 Jun 2021 07:02 PM PDT Is anyone else having issues with Android TV 9 on Sony Bravia VU1? It's been freezing up on me last couple of weeks. I have to do a hard re-boot (unplug it) at least once a day in order to make it work. Very frustrating. [link] [comments] | ||
| The Discover tab only recommends Amazon Prime stuff Posted: 22 Jun 2021 08:50 PM PDT I don't have Prime. I disabled the Prime app, but the only things being recommended are on Prime. Is there a way to force Google to stop recommending Prime stuff on Android TV? [link] [comments] | ||
| problem with xiaomi mi tv stick (freezes in casting videos) Posted: 22 Jun 2021 02:41 PM PDT Good morning I have a question, ask it here I currently have two xiaomi mi tv sticks, both of which are being used in a mesh wifi environment. I watch the video in the browser while surfing the web mainly on the tablet (Chromecast) One is in use without any problem, but strangely, one is the same mesh wifi (tp link deco m5), even if I put a mesh device right next to the mi stick tv, the video sometimes freezes (The tablet screen video comes out well, only the screen sent by the stick has a problem of freeze) Could this be a heat issue? Is it a wifi problem? or TV? Could it be a problem? Or should I throw away the mi stick tv and buy the new chromecast? It's a translator, so the translation is not good, but thank you for reading [link] [comments] | ||
| No HDR support on Amazon Prime video? (Google TV)? Posted: 22 Jun 2021 12:26 PM PDT I've got a Sony Bravia HDR 4k tv with Google TV, which should be able to do everything Android tv does. When playing HDR content on Netflix, it shows a HDR icon in my settings, and gives me more settings because the content is also Dolby Vision. I'm guessing prime video on Android tv doesn't support Dolby Vision because it's not mentioned anywhere. But even on HDR content (HDR10 I guess?) I don't think HDR is working. There's no HDR icon in the picture settings, and it's clearly much less bright and less contrast in the blacks etc. If I open the same movie in a different way, it does show the icon in settings and looks so much better. How can I get HDR content working on prime? It does show the icon on the actual movie, just not in the tv settings. Thanks! [link] [comments] | ||
| How to install large apps (Games) with an external storage? Posted: 22 Jun 2021 10:37 AM PDT I'm trying to install a few games for my Sony A80J TV. It uses Google TV. But the internal storage is too small. Only 4GB available. I tried to add an external storage using an 128 GB USB stick. While it did format and works fine (I can now transfer existing apps' data to the external storage). I still don't have an option to choose the external storage while installing new apps - trying to install Asphalt 9 and it says there's not enough room on the device. Any suggestions?
