Can I download movies from the Google Play Movies (now called Google Tv) app for offline viewing?

I'm contemplating buying a device that has Android TV 9. I will want to use it in areas without internet access. I will mostly use it to watch movies I've purchased on Google Play Movies (now called Google TV. Is there the ability to download movies for offline viewing in that app in Android TV 9? You can do this on a Chromebook or on a Phone, but I have no experience with Android TV.

MI box UI changes sometimes and reverse back to Normal. Basically I see Home, Discover, Apps on the top left, but after sometime it reverses back to normal Black screen on the background. Does anyone one know of this ?

Do any android TV boxes support ultrawide screens? I'm looking at the xiaomi mi box s.

I'm looking for an android TV box that would support an ultrawide monitor, the one I have at the moment does not, so everything is streched. I was looking at the Xiaomi mi box s, but it doesn't say if it supports it or not. Thanks.

TuneIn not available on AndroidTV 9 (JBL Link Bar) via Google Assistant

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 02:44 AM PDT

I've got a JBL Link Bar what runs AndroidTV 9, until a few days ago I could start a radio station via the voice command Hey Google, listen to {name radio station} and it would start TuneIn and play the radio station. If I use the same voice command now, the Google assistent tells me that this is not possible on this device, and I can ask to do this on another device. If I open the TuneIn app and start the radio station it does work.

I've got this on two of this devices, language of the Google Assistent is in Dutch and English. Doesn't matter in witch language I use the command, it tells me the same. Anyone else with the same issue? Or does someone know a solution to make this work again?

    Android/Google TV streamers

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 05:15 AM PDT

Hey all, looking for some clarification here. I have always understood that Android TV was basically a casting device where you need to cast from something like a phone to watch i.e. all previous versions on chromecast devices. And Google TV is a layer on top of android TV which allows for self contained streaming like any smart TV where you can load apps directly from it and not need an outside source like a phone.

With that said, has anyone tested out the ONN Android TV streamer with remote? Are Android TV and Google TV now being used synonymously? The label says Android, but if it has a remote with actual app buttons, wouldn't it be Google TV?

    https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-Android-TV-UHD-Streaming-Device/636597403

Side question, has anyone tried another Google TV streamer they would recommend? I have a Chromecast with Google TV and an Sony Google TV already, but want something cheaper for an outside TV that I can work with a remote and not worry about casting through my phone.

    Thx!!

    Updating SmartTube

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 10:57 PM PDT

Does this have to be done manually (i.e. downloading the APK for every version from the github source) or will the option to update come within the app like Smart YouTube?

Chromecast with Google TV - No surround sound

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 03:04 PM PDT

Plex is the only app outputting 5.1 surround. Everything else, Netflix, Prime, etc, is downsampled to 2.0. What's going on?

Edit: My main question here, is, why in the everliving fuck can't this device convert the 5.1 signals it's certainly receiving into 5.1 PCM? My receiver can't receive (ha) E-AC3. My PS4 converts everything to 5.1 PCM. I expected this thing to do the fucking same.

*Sorry, I'm quite upset. This isn't the first technology problem I've had this week. I've been through 4 wifi range extenders to find one that's not garbage. I just wanted this thing to fucking work.

Update: HBO Max will send through a plain DD signal to the receiver. I would still prefer DD+ converted to 5.1 PCM, but this is better than just PCM stereo.

Update 2: MoviesAnywhere is 2.0 PCM.

    Wifi authentication issue (Sony x950h)

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 08:50 PM PDT

Im trying to connect my tv to my new apartment complexes wifi. There's two steps to connecting to the wifi — wifi log in then authentication through a browser log in. I can connect to the wifi at which point the network reads "sign in to network" and when I click on the notification to log in, I'm taken to a connectivitycheck.gstatic page that fails to load.

    Anyone else have similar issues?

    Sony X750H turns on randomly

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:09 PM PDT

My Sony X750H powers up by itself without any input at random times of the day and night. I'm not connecting to it by Chromecast, Bluetooth, network, remote, or any other way. There is nobody else on my WiFi network. It just turns on and sits on whatever screen or channel I had it on when I turned it off.

The Chromecast option "let others cast media" is turned off. Bluetooth is turned on so the remote control will work. Remote Start is turned off in BRAVIA settings. IP control is turned off.

    Any ideas? :(

WTF is going on with YouTube?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 08:57 AM PDT

So this is kind of a small rant but ultimately have a question at the end, if its allowed. I have a nice Sony Bravia with Android TV and love it, also have an Xbox one as well. Contrary to the marketing wanks the Xbox is a terrible "All in one" entertainment device as literally no app is optimized for the system, so it shits the bed regularly with everything streaming.

Now to the TV, Netflix is amazing with the Dolby vision on it, streams perfect, no stutters or buffering, Disney and even Hulu do great when I find those to crap out on the good ole Xbox. Also my phone streams 4k over YouTube all day on my network, no lag or anything. So I'm almost certain there's no network issues, as literally every other option is doing fine.

But that fucking YouTube. Always lags, doesn't want to load, have to back out and reload only to watch ads again for it to fail, again. 4k is pretty much undoable and about 20 minutes into watching I'm barely holding on at 720 or even 480. It's shit. Same story on the Xbox

So my question, I've had it, I'm ready to spend coin on a dedicated streaming device ONLY for YouTube IF, and only IF, there is one that it's optimized on very well. I'm not sure such a device exists, I just want to watch good 4k content on my good TV and good internet and not deal with the bullshit anymore.

    Anybody have suggestions?
