Posted: 15 May 2021 10:19 PM PDT I was having an issue with the fact that my Internet connection was significantly slower when my TCL TV was wired than when it was on WiFi. Thought it was the cable, bought new cable. Thought it was the router, changed the router settings. Chatted with a TCL rep, was disconnected, chatted with another, was disconnected, finally spoke on the phone with one, was told "If your WiFi is working your TV is working" and then was hung up on. Literally hung up on. Finally, found someone in some forum who said that all smart TVs are 10/100 ports. A. Is this true? (And if so, what reason is there for this in 2021 on TVs advertised as 4K). B. Why on Earth does it not say so anywhere in an accessible place, such as a manual or technical specs? C. Why couldn't TCL customer support just have said "the TV isn't designed to get wired speeds over 97" and saved me a giant time suck? [link] [comments] | ||

There is no text field to open, only on screen keyboard and I have type in using remote... Any way to fix this? Do I have to enable some option? Posted: 15 May 2021 02:07 PM PDT Hi I have a tcl 50c715 that worked fine for 3 months, but yesterday it suddenly produced strange noises and I couldn't turn it off any more. So I unplugged it and now when I start it the home-screen is almost empty and none of the few icons that are left work - nothing happens. In particular I cannot access the settings menu anymore and this seems to be the only way to do a factory reset. Unfortunately I cannot contact tcl support before Monday, so I wonder does anyone has an idea what I could try? , [link] [comments] | ||
| MTP issue after update - Sony x850D Posted: 15 May 2021 05:10 PM PDT I have a Sony 55x850D that has just updated to Android 8.0 (It was in storage for over a year, I know this update isn't new) and now the TV won't recognize my phone (Samsung Galaxy A51) as an MTP device (or PTP) and I can no longer access and play videos from the phone. Before the update I would plug the phone into one of the USB 3.0 ports on the TV, the phone would prompt with "do you want to allow...", I would choose "yes" and the TV would then ask what I wanted to open the device with (Music, Video, etc.). Now after the Oreo update I get no prompt on my phone and my TV doesn't see any USB devices attached if I go into the Video app. I have reset the TV since the update, I have not reset my phone yet and I'd really like not to... | Simplest device that has shuffle play for files from external hard drive? Posted: 16 May 2021 12:20 AM PDT Hi So, I've been making something of a personally curated "TV channel" by having a giant folder of videos stored on an external hard drive and watching through them on randomized order. I'm really trying to simplify and de-algorithmize my media consumption, so I was originally looking at external hard drive readers with no streaming/internet capabilities, which is still my preference. Even though I know there's no real benefit to having less features, that's just what I want 🤷♀️. Imagine how you would set up a media player for an old grandma with limited tech know-how so that you could just turn it on and that's it. It's me. I'm the grandma. So why android TV? Well, turns out it's harder than I thought to find a media player with a shuffle function. The only one I can find has mediocre reviews. I've been using a workaround of naming the files with a random number in front of the title, but I'd really like to just have a shuffle button. I know VLC has a shuffle feature, and I know android runs VLC.... bingo bongo So, basically my question is what is the dumbest smart TV device I can get that will run VLC or any program that has a shuffle feature enabled. I don't need wireless streaming or casting or games or internet or any of that stuff. I just want a shuffle feature for files from an external HDD. Right now I'm looking at the Mi Box S. Thanks! I want to sideload DirecTV (not DTVNow, but the app that I can use on my phone or Tablet with the standard DirecTV package) and Spectrum Sportsnet (which only has a phone and Tablet version). | Google TV/Chromecast don’t change inputs on my Android TVs Posted: 15 May 2021 01:04 PM PDT I have a Sony A1E OLED (2017) and an LGC7 OLED (2019). One has the new googleTV an the other an older Chromecast Ultra. Despite turning on the CEC mode, when i try to play music through my home group or when I try to watch Netflix from my phone, the TVs power on but they don't switch the the input that has these devices plugged into HDMI. I tried changing the input and swapping the devices and TVs. I pushed every button on the TV settings so many times, and I can not get this to work the way it is intended. When I got the Sony, it did function properly, so I suspect a TV update disabled this. Any suggestions other than push the input button on the remote? [link] [comments] | ||
