TIL Android now has the most accurate GPS in urban areas with the help of 3D models and AI. Posted: 19 May 2021 02:42 PM PDT There is what's called the "wrong-side-of-the-street position error" which has remained a hard unsolved problem in the past 10 years. It's a GPS error that occurs when you are in a city and the GPS thinks you are on the other side of the street. Apparently, Google solved this issue recently and they were the only ones who could do it thanks to their access to 3D city models and AI expertise. The update is now rolled out to most Android phones running Android 8 and newer via Google Play Services. So yes, Android now has better GPS accuracy than iOS. Google has a blog post on this if you want to read more about it. [link] [comments]

The Xperia 1 ii is a superb phone (ex iPhone user) Posted: 19 May 2021 02:20 PM PDT Very impressed. My point of reference is the iPhone 11 pro/XS Max. I think the Xperia is really overlooked, and I can't see why. The body is incredibly light for the size, it fits in the hand so much better than the cumbersome iPhone - sidesense is genius for one handed use too. Headphone jack. Now the sound on this phone is something special, I've A/B it with my Iphone and bluetooth headphones are about 20% louder on the Sony, and better quality. Sony actually put effort into the audio output and it's very noticable. Photo Pro is superb. Actual control over your images is a breath of fresh air. I just can't believe these aren't one of the most purchased smartphones right now, it's definitely better than my iPhone imo. [link] [comments]

Some useful ADB commands and one-liners for changing permissions Posted: 19 May 2021 08:27 PM PDT While setting up a new Galaxy S21 I made some ADB one liners to perform a few useful functions. All commands are to be executed in an ADB shell. If you don't know how to get one you probably should not be messing with ADB. If used incorrectly ADB can break essential device processes. Some useful commands:List enabled packages: List all packages: Print a large amount of info for a package: Revoke specific permission from specific package: Uninstall package: If the first command doesn't work then use second Reinstall built in package: If this doesn't work then it isn't built in Disable package: Enable package: Some useful one-liners:List all granted permissions for all enabled packages: List all granted permissions for specific package: Revoke specific permission from all packages (enabled and not enabled): \* This has the potential to break things so be careful.* [link] [comments]
