Focus Mode is useless if you use a WearOS device

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 06:08 AM PDT

I use Digital Wellbeing's "Focus Mode" to pause apps and mute their notifications during the work day. Something I rarely see mentioned is that WearOS completely ignores Focus Mode, so those notifications end up coming to my watch while I'm working anyway (which is actually the more important place to prevent them, since it's attached to my wrist and highly distracting).

I'm not talking about apps like restaurants and games which send notifications I'd never want on my wrist, those are all disabled permanently on the watch. I'm talking about social apps like Reddit, Snapchat, etc. that I want to be notified about during nights and weekends but not while working. I also know I could go into DnD mode, but I don't want to mute things like texts, Slack, and phone calls.

WearOS ignoring the device's Digital Wellbeing settings makes Focus Mode essentially useless. The watch feels like the first place that should have gotten some of these rules, considering how good it is at grabbing your attention. I shouldn't be surprised that it isn't, but I expected this to be addressed a while ago at some point.
