How to give every app a unique notification sound Posted: 26 Apr 2021 04:23 AM PDT You used to be able to set diffrent notification sounds for diffrent apps, but after i updated to android 11 it's no longer there, is there another way to set diffrent notification sounds or even maybe an external app that i can use to set it up? Help saving battery health on my new phone, i have no idea what to do Posted: 25 Apr 2021 11:09 PM PDT I spent 500$ on a galaxy a71, qnd while that might now be much to most people, ive only ever had 50-60$ motorolas, followed by one splurge 200$ one. I want to keep this phone as long as possible. (Even though i hate the bubbles on screen protectors, ive begrudgingly bought one) i heard that using the fast charger my phone came with can damage its battery health. As well as the fact i should not charge my phone overnight. The problem? Im on my phone very very heavily, like 8-12 hours. So i dont have any chance to charge it besides overnight, or while im using it which ive heard can also damage it. Ive came to two conclusions, i can either root my phone to make it be able to schedule an auto turn off an hour after i plug my phone in on my super fast charger, (which ive heard rooting can brick a phone and i would litterally cry, please dont make a grown man cry) or i could cough up 20-60$ on a "smart outlet" that i cant find one i can set to turn off a specific time without wifi access (only have mobile data where i live, no wifi) has anyone else gone through this and could give me some tips? FM radio audio on headphones stops when locking the screen Posted: 26 Apr 2021 12:34 PM PDT Phone: Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, ROM: LineageOS 17 What the title says. Some observations: This issue appeared randomly, without an OS update or anything. In speaker mode the radio continues playing as normally. Playing on headphones works for VLC. Radio resumes shortly if I get a notification. I checked the usual culprits like data saver or battery optimisation and they're off. It looks to me like the FM app fails to establish some kind of wakelock? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Stranger Text Phenomenon "DIOSA" Posted: 26 Apr 2021 12:28 PM PDT Phone model: LG Stylo 5 / LMQ720MS Provider: Metro PCS Android Version 10 Malwarebytes scan is clean for what that's worth I got a text message last night about 1AM? PST/PDT and the preview function before unlocking my phone displayed a message from a contact in my phone named "DIOSA" (which is some form of GODDESS) and the text body I could see included an image of some not so appealing lady with bottles of champagne and some other nonsense. In confusion, I showed my wife to ask her what the contact name meant, because I don't speak Spanish, and then without opening the text in my text thread list, hit the trash can and deleted the thread without ever opening the text outside of the preview function present on every phone because this contact should not, and does not exist on my phone My primary question is: On what level is my phone compromised? The idea of a malware or some sort that could grant a program the ability to create superfluous contacts, and text me from them doesn't sound impossible, but I've never heard of this and the malware scan came up clean. Could it possibly be a vulnerability in the phone itself or maybe the carrier wherein incoming messages can be displayed with contact names even if previous correspondence does not exist? I wish I had taken a screen cap of what the preview looked like just to give context, but I just wanted it off my phone, whatever it was. Obviously, google searching terms like "Stranger" "Text" and "Scam" together are wholly useless because of the search algorithms, so I resorted to here. If I should cross post this somewhere or try another sub, please let me know and I'll try my luck elsewhere. [link] [comments] |
Backup and restore entire android phone (like clonezilla) Posted: 26 Apr 2021 11:59 AM PDT Hello. The other day I rooted my OnePlus 8 pro for the first time and installed lineageos. I ended up going back to oxygenos pretty quick because the smooth navigation bar gestures I was used to weren't there. It was a pain unrooting, accidentally bricking the phone, and reinstalling oxygenos and setting up my phone like it was new again. My question is; is there a program that can be used for Android phones like clonezilla for Linux (or any computer I suppose), that lets me back up and restore an entire system image on my phone. This would be really useful since if I do mess around with custom roms again and decide I am not happy with it, I'd like to be able to reinstall my oxygenos image with all my apps and settings and whatnot rather than setting it all up again manually. And yes I do know about stuff like googles built-in android backup which backs up to Google drive. It's useful, but not quite what I'm looking for. Thanks for any answers you might have. Phone keeps autocorrecting plurals to possessives Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:58 AM PDT I'll type words like "roses" and "jeans" and every single time it autocorrects to "Rose's" and "Jean's". This keeps happening, even after I remove the possessives from my keyboard's learned words (I have a Samsung Galaxy A20) Any more permanent fixes out there? Or is there any way I could just disable autocorrect instead? [link] [comments] |
Just found out about CSCs on Samsungs. Any other brands. Posted: 26 Apr 2021 11:07 AM PDT I'm looking for a new (to me) phone and have been considering an S20 Ultra for a while. However just today I've learnt that each Samsung phone has a CSC number for the region it's sold in and that if you move to a different region then you may have issues, e.g. OTA updates, Samsung pay and others things not working. This is an issue for me as I tend to move around different regions. Firstly I'd like to know if these CSC issues, particularly OTA updates not working, are true or not. And secondly, if any other phone brands have this issue. (I assume Google phones do not as I have moved to another region with a Pixel 3 and have experienced no such issues.) Thanks. Help Finding Texts and Voicemails (Dad Passed Away) Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:01 AM PDT Is there any way to retrieve text messages and/or voicemails from a phone that was copy and pasted onto a pc? Long story short, my Dad passed away very unexpectedly last year, and we copied the files onto a pc as backup, because they had to take the phone back, as it was a work phone. I have access to all of the files that were copy/pasted, but I'm not sure if they contain the text messages and/or voicemails in order to view/listen to them. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you, and have a great day. [link] [comments] |
I need to unlock my Samsung Galaxy Core Plus but the touch screen doesn't work Posted: 26 Apr 2021 10:33 AM PDT The last night, my parents offered me some old phones, so I can backup all of their data. One of these is 1 of my old phones, a Samsung Galaxy Core Plus. Some years ago, I accidentally broke my phone's screen, but it still worked, but months later, the touch died, and it doesn't recognize when I touch the screen. I still remember my pattern, but I don't have any way to draw it if my phone doesn't recognize my finger. I tried using a USB OTG device, but the phone is not compatible. I tried the ADB method, but my phone didn't had USB Debugging activated before the touch screen died, also I couldn't find any folder called "platform-tools" in my computer. There's any other way to save my phone? I'm a bit desperate and I don't want to get all of my info stuck there. [link] [comments] |

Recover photos from phone with broken screen - Xiaomi Red Note 9 Pro Posted: 26 Apr 2021 09:35 AM PDT Hi all, I hope someone can help me, I've googled this and none of the answers seem to work. My wife accidentally broke her phone and we'd like to get the photos from it. The screen is completely broken (just various pixels that are either black or permanently on), and we haven't previously enabled USB file transfer. I've tried various apps, such as Tenorshare, but they all seem to require USB debugging to already be switched on, which it isn't, and I can't enable it now as the screen is broken. Any advice on what we can do? Thanks [link] [comments] |

Low media quality while on MS Teams call Posted: 26 Apr 2021 05:11 AM PDT Hello. I just started using new bluetooth earbuds (Galaxy Buds Live) and I noticed that, while I'm in a MS Teams call, audio quality from other apps (Spotify, YT) is very poor. I'm using Oneplus Nord and before I was using wired headphones (jack to USB-C) and there wasn't any problems with audio quality. Any tips? Edit: I'm using Android 11 with OxygenOS11 [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to disable one touch automatic download of ads? Posted: 26 Apr 2021 08:43 AM PDT Some games that display banner ads at the bottom have ads that if you accidentally touch the banner at all the ad will download the advertised app automatically and you can't stop it. You can only uninstall the ad downloaded app after it finishes. Is there a way to disable automatic app installation? [link] [comments] |
Alcatel Idol 3 Stressing Me Out Posted: 26 Apr 2021 08:36 AM PDT Hi, guys. I want to preface this with saying I have spent hours (I've been at this consistently for over a month) online searching through guides, and they either don't account for the lack of fastboot access (because Alcatel started out on Lollipop), or have broken links where flashers and such used to be. I've even tried techniques that have worked on other phones. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 on my old laptop, and have also tried using Android Studio and a couple of one click root programs on Wine to try to force this little phone's hand. I'm coming to you guys because I've pretty much exhausted my resources, and I don't know what else to try. It's an Alcatel Idol 3 5.5 (Cricket version, 6045O) running the abomination, Marshmallow. Marshmallow stripped away fastboot access, and when I access download mode and try to prompt it to give me the unlock bootloader screen, it goes to blackness instead. It's an octa-core, and it's definitely got a lot of life left in it. I just want to put an aftermarket rom on it to speed it back up, and hopefully restore the ability to read sim cards again—it just stopped working one day, and will work for a few minutes when I erase everything, but then goes back to refusing them. Even if the sim reader doesn't work, it's got a large, crisp display, excellent speakers, and it just seems like a terrible waste to let it stay in a drawer when it's easily capable of running a fresh OS and being used for so many fun purposes. I'm about half tempted to reinstall Windows on my old laptop to retry the one click root programs with that (I doubt they'd work to bypass the locked bootloader, but I'm desperate and get very, very stubborn when I want something to really work) since I'll finally be able to use my RPi4 today for the first time, and it's replacing my ancient laptop as my daily driver. Please help? I love this little, old phone. [link] [comments] |

Spotify Album Cover cache in memory? Posted: 26 Apr 2021 08:12 AM PDT Is it possible/feasible to find the album cover of the currently playing Spotify song in memory somewhere? Perhaps around Android/data/com.spotify.music/files/spotifycache? Or would that be encrypted in some way. I'd like to transfer the image over bluetooth to another device so the device doesn't have to be connected to the internet just to display album art. [link] [comments] |

I'm still trying to get used to android. Best solutions for these? Posted: 26 Apr 2021 08:06 AM PDT Ok. I'm coming from iPhone which to me was a more locked down system but everything just seemed more seamless, so forgive me for the questions which some may find stupid as I'm new to really using the ecosystem. I'm operating on a xiaomi redmi note 10 I don't want to download an entirely new launcher(I think that's what their called) as I'd have to kind of set everything to my liking again so if possible I'd like to accomplish these things without doing that.
I do appreciate the help with these likely simple questions and especially for those who commented on my last post here which was extremely helpful to me. [link] [comments] |
Samsung Tablet terrible battery drain when in idle Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:49 AM PDT I have had my Galaxy Tab S5e for a little under a year and have had no problems with it, but for about a week now I've noticed very harsh battery drain when I am not using it. I would leave it at 100% before I leave for work in the morning, then by the time I get back around 3-4pm it would be around 40%. Is there any way to fix this or to find what the problem is? Any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Other party claims they did not receive certain text messages due to water damage? Posted: 25 Apr 2021 06:37 PM PDT Due to the other party not responding to multiple texts regarding an upcoming court hearing.. I submitted a decision that they did not find favorable to them. Is this a valid excuse? Water damage can interfere with text delivery? [link] [comments] |
Unknown credit/debit card locked me from making any payments with my Google account Posted: 25 Apr 2021 10:54 PM PDT So on March 31st some random credit/debit card got added to my Google account and made a bunch of $20 purchases on YouTube Super Chat. Because of this, I can no longer add any cards to my account nor can I purchase anything on my Google account. When I go to my Google account it asks me to verify my payment information and wants me to verify the card use to make all these purchases. Problem is I have no idea who's card it is or how it got onto my account. Does anyone have any idea how this happend? I've tried contacting Google support but it seems that they don't quit understand that the card is not mine and therfore I can't verify it. I'm emailing them now and hoping they can resolve this issue and can unlock my account again. I just want to know how this may have happend so I can take preventative messages so this doesn't happen again. [link] [comments] |
