Why does android TVs come with low storage space?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:23 AM PST

My Mi TV has just 8GB of storage space and half of it was already used up by the OS and pre-installed apps. I have an OS update and app updates pending. Why doesn't manufacturers make TV with higher storage space?

Brought my first Android TV, DO NOT buy a Panasonic

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 03:17 PM PST

So as title says, brought my first Android TV about a month ago. It's a Panasonic 43HX700. Never had a problem with Panasonic TVs before, always worked great, but this thing is an absolute piece of garbage. It's slow, supper laggy, netflix and you tube just crash sometimes. You tube has even randomly just opened its self a few times. It's absolutely nothing like any panasonic I've had before in the past, literally the worst TV I have ever owned. DO NOT ever buy this TV.

Third party app to view Google photos on TV?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:15 PM PST

Hey, as we know, Google Photos looks like absolute trash when Chromecasted from phone. I am surprised that it still talks to the phone and not directly to the internet as it would with say Netflix. Anyway, until Google fixes it, does anyone know if a third party app where you can log in directly onto the Chromecast with Google TV and view your Google Photos? My only reservation would be a third party app having my Google log in.

I still can't believe the Google Photos casting works the way it does. It seems so logical and simple for them to address.

Hulu on Chromecast with Google Tv crap or what?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:00 PM PST

Often it forgets what episode I was watching and starts the same one at the end of an episode, or it starts playing with no video just audio and subtitles etc.

Is this just me, or a common issue?

If I upgrade to a new Android TV device, can I automatically load all my apps and settings from the older one by just logging into my account?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 02:17 PM PST

I have not upgraded to a new device. I only have one Android TV device, the Shield Pro. I don't plan to upgrade it in the near future. However I have little doubt that eventually, I will upgrade it.

I just want to know if it's possible to automatically have my apps and settings installed just by logging in with my account?

It's my understanding that unlike iOS, it's not possible on Android to natively backup and restore a phone exactly as it was, with the user's custom apps and settings. Therefore I am guessing it's the same for Android TV?

    Issues following update to OS

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 10:49 AM PST

For over a year I've been using Android TV via Tivo Stream 4K on my Sony TV. Up until yesterday I've been able to cast to my TV from my Chromebook. Also, my Tivo remote controlled volume and muting (among other functions). Yesterday, while watching TV there was an update to the Android TV OS, took a couple of minutes to install. Since then, I cannot cast from my Chromebook and I can't use my remote for volume and muting. I've spent a lot of time in Settings on each device and nothing can be changed back to what it was. Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone suggest a remedy? Thanks in advance.

    Parental controls - Apps

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 03:48 PM PST

Hello! We recently purchased a Hisense android TV (model 55Q7G) and I noticed that the parental controls do not allow you to limit what apps can be used. Only things like limit inputs. My old Nvidia Shield had this so I was expecting the same from this android TV. Would really like to ban YouTube from the kids! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
