Just updated to Android 11, very confused about something.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 01:38 AM PST

As the title says, I've recently updated my Pixel 3a to Android 11 from Android 10 (got tired of the popup asking me to update and thought the screen recording would be neat) and discovered a weird (in my opinion) downgrade that doesn't make much sense.

In short, the notification card that pops up when you're playing something on Spotify has been changed entirely, in a way that makes it less convenient and less seamless than the one featured in Android 10.

You can see the card from Android 10 (taken from Google) here: http://imgur.com/a/3CNGHGi

As you can see, the card transitions pretty seamlessly from a solid color background to the album cover itself. The color blends pretty nicely, and the text matches the overall scheme. It isn't pictured here, but the lock screen wallpaper would change to a blurred version of the album cover while music was playing (a feature I liked so much that I changed my lock and home screens to blurred album covers).

Now here's the card from Android 11: http://imgur.com/a/BDTg5s5

As you can see, the background is a solid color (it often doesn't even match the album cover) the progress bar is gone (can only be accessed if you drag down on the notification) and the text is solid white. The lock screen wallpaper change is also gone.

This is a very obvious step backwards in aesthetics and convenience. I question the design choices made here, and I'm curious if there's any way to get the old card back without reverting to Android 10.

How to remove annoying "Open map" suggestion in Messenger notification?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 05:34 AM PST

I'm using Pixel 5 and many times when messages come from Messenger, there is a "Open map" link in notification even there is no word about address or Google Map link in those messages. I'm not sure this is Messengers problem, or Android 11 on my phone.

Unable to close apps with the new update?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 10:52 AM PST

To start: the phone I'm using is LG V60 ThinQ 5G. I just got the new update, and when I swipe up from the bottom to view opened apps it just brings me to the home screen. Did the feature move? Is this a big?

Google Pixel 5 vs Samsung Galaxy s21: which is better?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 09:22 PM PST

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S8 and while I am happy with it for the most part it is starting to show its age (mostly through the battery and how easily it can crack) and I'm looking through an upgrade as my carrier offers some deals with newer Android phones.

I'm currently torn between the Google Pixel 5 and Samsung Galaxy S21. I'm not looking for a gaming phone or anything, more or less a phone that can handle heavy usage on social media/news apps/ etc. I also enjoy taking photos and am interested in taking photos of the night skies either through Google's Astrophotography mode or toying with the pro mode on the Samsung. I have been very happy with Samsung but I'm not a fan of how big the phones are getting either. I was wondering if it is time for a change.

TLDR: Biggest wants in a phone: Strong battery Good photography Quick and smooth

Dislikes in a phone: Too large Extreme fragility

    Thanks for any advice!

weird issue with inline remote on my headset on moto g 5g plus

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 12:18 PM PST

So i'm having an issue where the pause/unpause by pressing the button on my headset cable doesn't seem to react for random amounts of time before finally working, often causing me to press it again just to hear a blip of sound before it repauses, or it doesn't pause until i press several times.

Tried with several headsets, youtube music, audible and it doesn't seem to be app specific, turning moto audio on or off also does not do anything. any ideas?

    Connection issues while gaming.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 11:34 AM PST

I just bought a new phone which is Samsung Galaxy A12, and when I try to play games with it, I get random lag spikes. I tried playing the same games with my older phone and my internet connection is stable and I don't encounter any kind of lag spikes with it. It tried running the internet speed test with my new phone but there are no problems with it. Can someone tell what to do?

    Can't change default storage?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 11:28 AM PST

I have a S9+ with Android 10 and a 256gb sd card. I moved some apps over to the sd card but whenever they update they go right back to internal.

Is there really no way to change default download/storage location?

Pixel 2XL unlocked bootloader? How to get back to stock?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 11:19 AM PST

Hey, I've got a Pixel 2XL that started with this warning. I have downloaded the latest stock software to flash to it. I have been able to recognize the device on my computer with adb devices. I am following a YouTube video since I have never done this before. But the problem I am running into is Windows doesn't see my device when I restart it into this mode. When I go into that mode based on the YouTube video (at around 8:55) and run the fastboot devices I see nothing on my end.

I have posted before about this but was told to flash the phone back to stock which is what I am going for. That red error popped up on my phone randomly, I have never before tried to install any other software outside of the Google Play Store.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 11:19 AM PST

So I was told I need to flash my SM-G891A but I don't want to lose my photos so I need to do a home csc flash. I'm trying to find the files I need but I can't find a csc home file. Anyone know where I can find a home csc file? Or is there another way to get my photos off the phone?

How do you refresh a page while using Firefox?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 10:02 AM PST

Seems a little basic and silly but I couldn't figure it out on the latest version.

I'm enjoying Firefox over Chrome for Android, but I'm missing my "swipe down from the top of the page" gesture which causes a refresh.

Is there a similar setting or gesture for Firefox?

    Battery chargin very slow

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 12:27 AM PST

Hello people, as of two months or so my Nokia 7.1 battery is charging incredibly slow. I am pretty sure this only happened after a recent system update. Things I have tried so far: change the charger (2 Ampere at the moment), change the cable, clean the usb-c port, restart several times, drain battery completely, install all system updates. Do you have any ideas what else I could do? Here is a screenshot showing the remaining charging time: https://i.ibb.co/JBSg9Jm/akku.png (1 day, 16 hours and 32 minutes)

Ever since upgrading my phone (P2XL to P4a5G) I've had problems with Bluetooth and setting a default alarm app.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 08:57 AM PST

I upgraded from a Pixel 2 XL to the Pixel 4a (5G) on November 19, 2020. Ever since I started using the new phone I've had problems with two things:

    1) Bluetooth. My wireless earbuds (Spigen Legato) won't stay connected. I turn them on and sometimes they stay connected to BT and there are no issues. At other times there are several disconnects/reconnects. I'll have the Legatos turned on and I'll hear "disconnected" "connected" several times in succession. It gets quite annoying. I even tried turning off the battery optimization for BT.

When I set up the phone initially, I set it up "fresh." I did not copy apps. I installed the apps one by one on the new phone. I did not copy over any data. I just access my photos, etc. via the cloud. I've wiped the cache and I've even tried an FDR. I don't know what could be causing this to happen.

    2) Default alarm app. I am using "AMDroid - Alarm Clock for Heavy Sleepers." I've been trying to set it as the default alarm app, but every time I say "Hey Google! Wake me up at 5 AM" it will default to the standard "Google Clock" as the alarm.

Any ideas on how to resolve these issues?

    Thank you.

    My apps just disappeared.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 08:46 AM PST

So long story short, basically what happened was that I went to my Galaxy Tab E out of Ultra Power Saving Mode, and for no reason whatsoever, all my apps just disappeared, even the ones that came with the device. (like Camera or the Play Store, for example) I've tried practically everything I can't get them back and I don't know what to do, If you know anything useful, it would be greatly appreciated.

Reliable local back-up including app-data without root? [Preferably Samsung]

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 08:25 AM PST

I'm considering a Samsung Galaxy S21. I need a phone where I can connect it to my computer and create a near-perfect non-cloud-dependent backup of it.

I should not need to root the phone or even use some unreliable 3rd Party app to pull this off.

This is the absolute bare-minimum of what a smartphone should be able to do. If it cannot do that, then it is less than a Gameboy, and not a serious smartphone.

Even the super-restricted iPhone lets me create a reliable local backup of it.

Can I do this on a Samsung Galaxy S21 with the Smart Switch app?

    Can it backup all app-data?

Per Samsung: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00047089/ -- "App data: Data saved in private storage cannot be backed up.".

So, Samsung has root access to these phones and doesn't let us back-up app-data?

Also, of note: There are an entire slew of professionals out there that prefer not to -- or are straight-up not allowed to -- backup their work and even their personal phones to the cloud.

Yes, I know the iPhone does this at trashy USB 2.0 or WiFi speeds of like 20MB/s which can lead to a 200GB iPhone taking 3 hours to backup or restore. But, guess what, it still does it perfectly each time.

Where is Android during all of this? So much for an open OS if you have to hack your super-critical phone in order to create a proper backup.

Galaxy 3A - Had to do factory reset - concern?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 04:30 AM PST

My pixel 3A earlier had a black screen with the prompting that there was an error and basically that the OS could not load and I can retry or do a factory reset. So after several retries, I went the factory reset route.

I am not sure what caused the issue. It is the only issue I ever had with the device. I am wondering if it is a signal that there might be an issue with the device and I should look for a new phone. Or is it a 1 off.

Thank you! Let me know if there is a different channel I should ask.

I want to download an old picture, but I can't see the full link (Downloads app)

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 03:52 AM PST

    Hello,

I've recently started using my Samsung Galaxy S2 again and I found a link to an ancient picture, probably around 8 years old. However, the link is only partly displayed and seems to be dead cause when I try to download it it just goes into an infinite loop of trying to download it but nothing happens.

How can I see the full link? I want to look for the picture on the internet.

    Thanks for your time.

Was browsing the internet and noticed my location had been turned on, have I been hacked?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 07:27 AM PST

I was browsing the internet just now (porn. Shocking, I know) and noticed my location services thingy was active. I'm almost certain it remains off until I use the weather app, have done so for years, but now I'm kinda freaking out that some scammer now knows my home address or God knows what else by now.

Is it possible for a site to get into my phone without me knowing and turning location services on? It was only on for maybe a minute at most before I shut it off, I don't suppose I severed the connection...?

    Help (Samsung Note 9)!

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 07:04 AM PST

    Help!

My Samsung Note 9 suddenly can't connect or rather turn on the option to enable wifi and bluetooth. I can't even connect my Spen with the phone. It keeps on saying it's disconnected.

Also, way back, I know this has been a known issue, but my phone got screen discoloration after the March 2020 security update. Is there a way to fix this?

    Help?

Btw, I tried resetting EVERYTHING, even the phone itself. The problem still persists.

Old Archos Handheld Console - Things to do?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 06:29 AM PST

Just found this fella back in the closet of old consoles along with an android tablet. Neither very powerful and too old to connect to an update server. Did factory reset on the Archos before coming into work. Battery seems ok but I'll probably have to keep it plugged in. I'm googling up ideas. Mostly trying to see if I can use it as an in bed remote desktop to my gaming PC. Failing that I'll mostly just experiment with it till I get bored. But hoping ya'll had some fun ideas to look into.

Does Dr Fone Screen Unlock actually work?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 05:58 AM PST

Hi guys! Galaxy M21 here, running on Android 11. USB DEbugging disabled. Bootloader not unlocked.

I reset my phone and set a new pin. Went away for a while and forgot the pin :( I still had my fingerprints registered, but in desperation, I switched off the phone and tried booting into recovery, for which I pressed the wrong keys, which booted me back into the normal mood. Now I can't either unlock or turn my phone off.

I can't let the battery drain away, since it's charged up to 100% as of now and it has got a massive 6000mah battery. It's gonna take weeks for it to deplete. And I really really don't want to disassemble my phone.

I got two choices. Either take it to the Samsung service centre, or try unlocking it with Dr. Fone screen unlock. The question is, Does it work?

If you have any other suggestions than letting my battery drain to 0% or disconnecting it from the battery, pray tell me.

    Edit - Solved it!

Force restarted my phone by holding Power + Volume Down. Then held down Power + Volume UP quickly until it displayed the Samsung logo. You have to let go of the buttons here!!! Then the usual hard reset and wipe cache. And then reboot your phone. Simple as that.
