My new Pixel 4a 5g does not seem happy that I want to log in to my Amazon app with MY account but the amazon photos app under my wife's account where all our photos are saved from both phones. What is the deal?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 10:34 AM PST

I had a razer phone 2 with android 9 and this worked just fine. Now with this pixel and android 11 either android or some google setting in android is ticked off that I dare utilize more than one amazon account on my phone.

My wife and I each have an amazon account. Hers is the primary account with Prime and amazon photos subscription.

I have my own amazon account that shares her prime account. But I log into the amazon photos app using her login info so that all photos and videos we both take on each of our phones all go to the same amazon photos account.

The apps just do not like this. If I have a different login on amazon shopping it signs me out of both. I don't want those two apps talking to each other. But don't know what settings to change.

    Phone not allowed for voice

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 10:11 AM PST

I've had a brand new Galaxy Note 20 for three months. I'm in Colombia. Yesterday phone was working fine. Today I was gonna go on a dangerous adventure, so I swapped out the SIM card and put it on my old phone. Got home, swapped it back in, started getting this error, and can't get internet other than wifi anymore. SIM card works perfectly on my old phone though.

Any ideas what's going on? I googled the error and people kept talking about the phone being reported stolen, but this obviously doesn't apply to me since it's brand new.

Using Internal Storage SD Card on New Phone

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 11:24 AM PST

I recently bought a new Pixel phone and transferred my old phone's data across, but I have now noticed that the data that was on my SD Card (formatted as internal storage) was not moved across. Is it possible to get access to this data on my new device? Unfortunately I no longer have the old phone and the SD Card is not recognisable on my laptop.

    Thanks! :)

How come my music got lower when played in the car?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 12:33 PM PST

So i just got the Samsung Galaxy note 20 during Christmas and when i would plug it into the aux in my car it would do this weird volume control thing where if the volume on the phone was turned all the way up or to a certain volume (depending on what song) it would cut out or pause itself and only play if i lowered the phone volume a bit and no matter how Loud the actual car raido itself Was it would always do this. It was super annoying but i was always able to get the music to the perfect volume and was going to ask on here if anyone had experience with this but. It has just. Kinda decided to stop doing this and now let's me put the music volume all the way up without a problem but it is definitely not as loud as before. i have checked the settings on my car raido and the sound settings on my phone. And they're both fine but im still thinking it's my phone since it was giving me aux problems from the start... Anyone have experience with this???

My Galaxy S10+ got stuck on the mobile provder screen during a phone update X( - what to do?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 12:16 PM PST

Hi, all. It looks like during an update to my phone (Galaxy S10+) this morning, it seems to be stuck on my mobile provider screen, for some odd reason. The SS RDX screen says I pushed the keys for 7 seconds, and I'm not sure how to remedy this. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Messages randomly dissappeared, on BOTH sides

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 12:15 PM PST

I honestly had no idea where to post this but my phone is an android so I thought I'd start here. Sorry for it being my winded.

So here's my problem that I find completely bizarre. Last night I had a video chat through Facebook Messenger and when I went to check it today because I was curious how long it was, it was gone. The entirety of our conversation remains, just that one thing is gone. Right after, I went to respond to my mom's message (again, on Facebook messenger) and noticed that my messages to her last night, just before that video chat with my friend, were also gone. And again, everything else remains. Out of curiosity, I then went to check the (actual phone) text messages I sent to my mom last night, same time frame, and they too were gone! And again, the rest of our texts were there. So I ask my mom if she had read my messages and texts from last night and if she still has them. She said yes, that she read them and then she went to check if they were still there, and no, they too had dissappeared from her phone and Facebook! So lastly, I asked my friend if he could see where we had that video chat last night if he scrolled up in the conversation. He said no, strangely it was gone even though everything else was there.

I don't even know where to begin with this issue. What on earth could cause this on two separate phones? Obviously the Facebook Messenger app could be the issue with all 3 phones because apps can have issues. But what on earth could possibly make text messages dissappear from two different phones, using two different apps for text messaging?

Having my MS OneDrive account appeared to cause problems with Google Play Services; is there a way around this?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 08:50 PM PST

Device: Galaxy Note 20 Ultra running Android 11

Today I attempted to make an in-app purchase in a game and was met with errors stating "Unable to retrieve In-App purchase details; the App Store is temporarily unavailable" and "Transaction incomplete; You must be signed in to a Google Account on your device to purchase items." This is an app I have never had an issue making purchases in, and was an error message I'd never received through six months of ownership of the phone.

Coincidentally, today I also downloaded and tried to explore premium pricing options in the Microsoft OneDrive app, only to be met with a similar message of "Sorry, there was a problem accessing the store..." After browsing through some other apps that have in-app purchases, I was met with indefinite loading screens, time-outs, or other messages about not being connected to Google Play. Something was definitely wrong system-wide, it appeared.

I hopped in a support chat with Google Play and they had me try the usual gamut of stuff...but it wasn't until the rep suggested I try removing other accounts I had connected to the device that we made progress.

Being the only thing that I had really added to the phone since I noticed the problem, I removed the OneDrive account (but not the app), and things mostly started working again (I think I may have to do some cache clearing or reinstalls of some apps that are still hanging up).

Noodling on why that account doesn't play well with Google Play, I remembered that my Microsoft account "username" happens to be my Gmail address, the same Google account I have connected to the phone. The rep acknowledged that the username of my Microsoft account could certainly be causing some confusion.

I'm just trying to figure out if there is a way to have both accounts co-exist on my phone without causing issues. The whole reason I downloaded OneDrive was to explore its potential as a backup service...I can't imagine I'm the only person out there using an Android phone with my Google account, who also happened to create their Microsoft account with their primary e-mail account.

Noob Question - Transferring Files to SD Card

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 11:53 AM PST

    Hey guys, quick question.

Is there any difference transferring files to my SD Card through the phone, or through the android device via MTP?

I was experiencing very poor performance on my SD Card. I took it out of my phone, reformatted it (in windows, I use linux) as ExFat slowly, and tested the performance. Performance test went well, my read speed was over 100mb/s and write speed was around 80. The card has been fully tested and confirmed as legit and functioning within spec.

I formatted it again in windows, slowly, to make sure it's clean.

Now I need to transfer about 400gb of music to it. Is there any difference if I transfer it through my phone's MTP, or if I put the card into a reader and do it that way? I have suspicion that corruption has caused the slowdown, as when I tested in Android, I was only able to get 80mb read and 32 write.

I use an NTFS data drive, and FreeFileSync on Linux to keep all my music in sync. Is there any issue with this setup? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

What can I do with my new device?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 07:56 AM PST

I don't know whether I'm at the right place (please suggest where to put this if not), but I had to get a new phone, and decided to try Motorola this time. Didn't do enough research I guess, 'cause I quickly realized, that basically everything on it had something to do with Google, from keyboard to calendar, notepad, you name it. I can't even take a picture without it going straight to Google Images? I was able to switch some features to something else, but there seems to be some things I just can't choose myself. The absence of saving things "to only on the phones own memory" bugs me the most. Why can't I even make a note or take a picture without it having something to do with collecting data? I'm obviously no wizard with technology, so I don't know how could I alter my phone so that I could just use it without worrying someone always trying to collect my information for money. Like I already paid for the device/connections, and it's not like we can pretend I could take part on society properly without those, even if I wanted to anymore, so what are my options? I know that I might sound silly, but I just miss that I could at least choose whether to save something on my device/cloud/accounts.

I would love to hear your thoughts about this, and every tip and argument is welcomed. But please be kind if possible, and consider that I feel like a senior citizen trapped in a twenty-something body with no serious interest on this stuff. I'd rather just grow some potatoes and look at bees all day okay.

Screen broken but phone works, how can i recover data?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 05:05 AM PST

Hi, the screen to my Note 8 is broken (not shattered but shows all sorts of weird colors). Sometimes you can see what's actually on the screen like notifications and the clock, between the weird lines and colors, and I think the touchscreen works too. But not enough to actually do anything on the phone, which is why I can't connect my phone to a computer and move my data. I think I have to approve it from the phone? Right now when I connect it to my PC it detects it but shows as empty.

Is there any way to recover this data? One of my solutions was to use screen mirroring software but I have to activate USB debugging from the phone and that won't work.

Any way to get the new Google UI redesign?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 07:13 AM PST

For some weird reason, i temporarily had the new and updated UI for Google Assistant & Gboard. But one day it suddenly vanished and it's back to the old UI.

Is there any way to re-enable it? I don't think I've done anything to revert the UI.

Is it normal if Google assistant doesn't read many Chrome pages after the "Read it" (or similar) command?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 10:10 AM PST

It's really erratic. Sometimes it starts right away. sometimes it fails even after several attempts. If it fails, the voice says "Sorry I don't see a web page on your screen right now. Try opening a web page and try again".

Sometimes it starts reading iIf I tap the "Read the article" text that appears after Assistant fails to understand that there is a Chrome page open. It seems possible, now that I have tried this several times, that if I tap the text several times it will start reading.

Why is my battery saver feature suddenly broken?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 02:24 AM PST

Hi there. I own a pixel 3a and a couple of days ago I noticed my battery saver was turning on when I had more than the specified percentage. Eg even if I have 75% battery the battery saver switches on. I have set the max percentage to be 10%. I thought a reboot would fix it, but it had no effect. So my battery saver feature is currently broken and useless. Other than this issue, there's nothing else wrong with my phone. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

    OTG Cable (Data and Charge)

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 09:47 AM PST

Does anyone know of an OTG cable that allows for the charging of the device (Tablet) as well as the data transfer simultaneously?

I have searched high and low and cannot for the life of me find a concrete answer / device that can do this.

Edit: Can this be achieved if the device has USB-C?

Unbearable Chrome Issue Where the "Copy Share Select All WebSearch" Keeps Popping Up And Makes Browser Unusable

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 09:11 AM PST

Sorry I don't know what that context menu is called but it's the menu that you get when you hold your thumb down and highlight text. Anyways it keeps popping up during browsing on Chrome. When it does the back button doesn't work and you gotta find somewhere on the screen to click off it and then it will go away for a minute until you change sites, refresh the page, etc. then it comes back again. It makes using Chrome very hard to use. I've downloaded and started using Firefox but Chrome is synced with my account across all my devices and I would prefer to use Chrome.

Anyways, I've tried clearing the cache and deleting the app data and re-adding my account. I have a Galaxy Note 10+ and it did not do this when I first bought the phone but it started about 6 months ago and I can't get rid of it. I've tried googling solutions but haven't been able to find anything besides other people complaining. It looks like everyone has Samsung devices but I can't say for sure since I only found a few results after digging. I found one reddit thread from about 4 months ago with a few people saying it's happening to them but with no solution besides one person suggesting they are doing it on accident by not noticing their thumb pressed on the screen. Lol. I can say for sure its not that. I can refresh the page and go no hands setting the phone down and it just pops up on the screen. Clicking off somewhere on the screen makes it go away temporarily like I said (ignoring sometimes that is hard to do that with links and stuff everywhere making you misclick stuff) but it always comes back when the page reloads or you go to a new page.

Lastly sometimes when I just recently rebooted the phone I might not notice it at first (because out of habit I always go back to chrome out of habit) but eventually it pops up again after a little browsing very shortly after starting but weirdly it might not happen for the first few pages.

Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone actually solved this problem? I can get a screenshot if you want but it's exactly what I described. It's just that context menu constantly popping up blocking a portion of the Chrome screen.

How many hosts entries are too many on your android device?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 08:22 AM PST

How many hosts entries are too many? I have around 1 million host entries and I don't see much of a difference. I have read that having too many hosts entries "slows down your Internet".

Does anyone also have a lot of hosts entries? If so, how is your device holding up?
