I think I have a virus or suspiciously timed fault with my Pixel 5? Can someone help?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 01:40 AM PST

Hopefully someone can help. Last night I stupidly used a web proxy to try access a different country video (I know, there are loads of reliable ones but I was being rushed and an idiot).

Anyway, after accessing one my phone just said "SHUTTING DOWN" and then it shut down. It went from 80% battery to zero battery and needed a charge.

Concerned for my internet security I factory reset my phone but when doing so it said "cant send spi message try again" but still reset? Not sure what that means.

Anyway, phone reset and feels ok, however the battery is not charging how it was before, it has taken 2 hours to get to 70%. I do have the option to just return it and get another.

Any helps or tips would be greatly appreciated, definitely learnt my lesson here.

Question about voice to text in Spanish with an Android phone

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 12:17 PM PST

I have a personal Android phone and I use an iPhone for work. I'm somewhat fluent in Spanish, and I've been texting people in Spanish for both phones. I've noticed that iPhone does a much better job at turning my voice to text in Spanish than my Android. I'm wondering if there are settings and I can adjust, apps or other things I need to download, or what else I can do to improve the voice to text. My Android phone is a Samsung Galaxy s20, I use Google keyboard, and I use Google voice to Text. Thank you!

Latest Samsung update made sd card unreadable to my S9+

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 08:14 AM PST

The SD card is readable to my computer, so I'm currently backing up all the files which will take an hour.

I have a lot of apps on that SD card. If I reformatted the card then put all the files back onto it will my apps work again?

If not, is there a way to get them to work again without having to reinstall all the programs?

my samsung s10e will not stop spamming me with notifications to turn on offline device finding - how do I make it stop?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 11:51 AM PST

title. I am not interested in using it and do not want it to ask me anymore.

I cannot turn off notifications for this source, it won't let me.

I've turned off Find My Mobile entirely.

How do I make it shut the fuck up? It does this 2 to 3 times a day and my patience is wearing thin enough to consider buying a different phone.

Hi, I need to transmit/clone my screen to my TV (not wireless tho)

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 11:29 AM PST

Hi, as far as I know my cellphone (xiaomi redmi 9c)does not support MHL, which means I cannot use one of those cables (micro USB to hdmi or slimport) clone or transmit my cellphone screen to my TV.

Is there anyway I can do it "in real time, with no lag"? I can cast but that has lag so I need a way to do it with some type of cable since wireless connection has lag and for the purpose I need it there has to be zero lag

Edit: could also be to a laptop, not just to a tv

Does the 3.5mm to type c adapter ruin stero information?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 07:38 AM PST

I've started noticing it recently with my 3.5mm headphones and when I tested them on my pc they sounded completely different due to being stero with the left - right panning.

So do 3.5mm to type c adapters cause this issue? I've tested a couple of different ones with different headsets and the result is the same.

    S7 edge

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 11:11 AM PST

Using an old Samsung s7 edge and my Gmail app won't load any of my e-mails, it just keeps loading non-stop. Also, my Facebook app won't open any link, the loading bar reaches like 90% and then stop there. I don't know if I deleted a file accidentaly which caused this problem. Would the factory reset fixed this?

How is the reputation of Google Pixel devices?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:52 AM PST

The Pixel 3, 3 XL, 4 and 4 XL have reports of bloated batteries

Many users of r/android and other places have a low opinion of them for their history in making phones

Pixel phones are kinda random in their specs

There doesn't seem to be a majority opinion though

Is anyone else's voice typing doing this?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 09:44 AM PST

    So I might be one of the few people who verbally puts in punctuation while voice typing, but I've done it for years {comma} and without issue {period} but as you can see what's happening right now {comma} it will out of nowhere put them in curly brackets {period} I have no idea why it's doing this {period} it started about a month ago {period}

Let me try again. And see now it's working, didn't change anything. I simply hit return to make a new paragraph and went back to voice typing.

Android 9, Google Keyboard, Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact.

Is there a way to transfer app data if not provided by the app itself?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 09:33 AM PST

I have been using an app to track health data but had to switch phones because I broke my previous one.

I don't really want to lose all the data I have been tracking but the app doesn't have any way to transfer it.

Is there any way this can be done?

Custom DNS for a specific network?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 09:30 AM PST

I use a custom DNS to block a majority of web ads. However, the WiFi for a couple local businesses don't grant internet access with a custom DNS. (Need WiFi since LTE signals are sh*t inside the building)

I can connect to the network, but can't access the internet behind it.

I'm using a Moto G Power, with Android 10. The DNS settings are in the general connectivity settings. I can't find any settings for this inside the WiFi options.

Is there a way I can set my device to prefer my custom DNS, but not use it for the select networks?

Is Wiping Cache Partition still a thing on Android 11?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 08:50 AM PST

Hi Android folks. I've just got a new phone, upgraded from a six years old phone running Android Pie (LineageOS 16.0). Back in those days before and after I flashed a new ROM / update, I would wipe system cache via recovery mode, as I was convinced that it would prevent unnecessary bugs.

Now my new phone is on Android 11. Upon googling, I found some articles mentioning there's no need to wipe system cache now as there are 2 system partitions, one holds the recent updated ROM, while the other keeps the old ROM in dormant, till the next update. (Please correct me if I'm wrong) While some people claimed that wiping the cache partition has made significant improvement on battery life / fixed some bugs, etc. (especially after software update)

Information over the web is too much, confused me a lot. My question is, do we still need to wipe the system cache before and/or after software update?

    Trojan Virus

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 08:43 AM PST

So i was browsing some sites and pop up site opened and ask me if i want to download some game. Ofcorse i quickly reject and close pop up window.

Last 2 days phone is acting slow and battery quickly draines (but i really use this phone quite a lot so after 1,5 year this could be normal from overuse)

Now 3 day later i run Malwarebyts and program found:

    Android/TrojanAgent.gx

    /mnt/sdcard/Download/NextGen-Games.apk

    I removed it with Malwarebytes.

I never installed that .apk is possible that it installed it self and got acces to my phone?

I runned Malwarebyts deep search and it say there is no more malware.

    I am compromised?

What steps should i take to secure my phone?

    Pattern lock tragedy

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 08:38 AM PST

First post - forgive me for my lack of Reddit etiquette.

I upgraded phones about two years ago from a Droid Turbo to a Moto Z2 Force. On that Droid Turbo, I used a third party app - Lockmypix - to store my photos and videos because I could organize them in folders. On that app, I did backup the photos and videos to the device's internal storage.

I have need of the content stored in that phone now, as it has old texts, voicemails, as well as pictures and videos of my mother and I together when she still had hair before she went through chemotherapy.

It has a pattern lock on it that I can't remember for the life of me. I don't think that getting into the phone using a Google account is a thing anymore, although I do have my current google account connected to the phone. My face is on the background of the phone, just for anyone who thinks it's not mine.

Can anyone work a miracle and help me get into the phone again without having to factory reset it?

After some research and stressful google searching, I can add that the phone is likely running Marshmallow 6.0.1 and I did not enable USB debugging prior to forgetting the lock pattern.

I'm willing to use unconventional methods like hiring shady people that, say, steal phones for a living to help me.

TL;DR I forgot my lockscreen password on my droid turbo and I need help getting back in without data loss

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL force restarts itself when powered off

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 08:18 AM PST

Whenever I power off my phone and wait for about 1 minute, my phone just force restarts itself. I launched it in safe mode but the issue still persisted so I don't think a specific app is causing it. There also isn't any software updates available. What could be the problem and how could I fix it?

Edit: to the guy who downvoted, fuck you.

Restrict mobile data per-App on android 11

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 07:41 AM PST

Last night I fell asleep with the Twitch App playing a stream. At some point my phone (Google Pixel 3a - Android 11) lost connection to the WiFi, and in the morning I find I have burned 1.5GB of data that's going to cost me $10 or so. I'm not happy.

I never want Twitch running on mobile data, only WiFi. Is there a way to restrict the Twitch app from using mobile data?

I have been googling pretty hard but finding nothing. It seems this was possible in Android 10, but the option has disappeared in 11.

(It would be nice if Twitch had a "don't stream on mobile data" option built in. My podcast app does. But Twitch does not.)

Is there a way to make Firefox browser feel less...janky?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 07:26 AM PST

I have tried Firefox on several occasions, and always end up uninstalling because it does not feel as smooth as other browsers. Not to mention it is missing other quality of life features I prefer to have like pulling left and right to navigate back and forth.

Now I am back again since Kiwi has gone for so long without updates.

I really want to like and use Firefox, but the tactile experience just leaves so much to be desired. Is it just me, or have others felt this way as well?

For example, if I am scrolling up and down a page, I can't move left and right without lifting my thumb (unless my initial swipe was in a diagonal motion, then I have full range). Additionally, double tap and holding to zoom often fails to recognize the second tap, so it just registers whatever I clicked on the initial tap. I tried adjusting the double tap settings in Android, but this does not fix the issue.

Samsung Galaxy S10E - Recurring error message in Chrome

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 07:17 AM PST

A couple days ago, I started to notice that every time I open my phone, my Chrome browser is open with a tab with this error message:
    https://i.imgur.com/0EAD5oz.jpg

To make matters worse, there's usually more than one open tab with this message. The longer I go between opening my phone, the more tabs there are (this morning when I woke up, there were 27 tabs with this message).

Is there any legitimate way of transferring whatsApp data from iPhone to android?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 06:27 AM PST

So my Dad has just switched to a Oneplus 8T because he needed a dual SIM phone for work and couldn't get his hands on a dual sim iPhone. Contacts have transferred over fine, and I've installed the two parallel Whatsapp apps so he can use one for each SIM, the only issue is that no data has transferred over.

I'll be honest, I didn't think Whatsapp chat history would be that important to him to keep, nor did I think it would be so difficult to transfer over, otherwise I would've warned him, but I'm banging my head against the wall here trying to get it done. Because the iOS app only allows you to back up to iCloud and the Android app to Drive, there's no way of doing a backup/restore, and the external app I've seen mentioned (Wazzapmigrator) broke the App so much that we had to do a full factory reset on the phone to get it working again.

I've seen mention of other methods online but they're almost exclusively in articles written by the companies trying to sell their version of a migration app, and the issue is niche enough that I've seen absolutely nobody else talking about it. Does anyone have any experience or any ideas? I've told him that he may just need to accept his data is gone (or at least stuck on his iPhone that he'll need to log back into and re-verify if he wants to look back on messages), which he isn't happy about at all, but it's looking to me like the only reality.
