Android TV team: please support disabling the built in TV mic when content is playing

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 10:40 PM PST

For TVs with the built-in mic it would be great if the assistant functionality could be disabled when the TV is playing content. More often than not a TV show seems to trigger the assistant.

I'm fine with using the remote's button activated mic when I do need it but I like having the TV's mic active when content isn't playing (or the TV is off) because it is a decent assistant in the living room.

CCwGT: USB Hubs that work with Google Ethernet plug?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 06:34 PM PST

I have a USB hub that works great with my CCwGT, but when replaced my OEM AC adapter with the OEM ethernet adapter, the USB hub doesn't allow the CC to see the ethernet adapter.

Do we know if any USB hubs are known to work with the Google ethernet power adapter?

    SmartTube Next Audio Passthrough setting?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 08:10 PM PST

Is there a way to Passthrough audio? For some reason, everything is coming through in stereo, even 5.1 stuff. I wasn't sure if there was an easy setting switch or if it's a feature not yet implemented by dev.

    Thanks for the help!

2020 Vizio P series - poor upscaling. Will a Shield TV or Chromecast w/ Google TV improve things?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 02:37 PM PST

I purchased this TV (65" version) mainly because of it's features for my Xbox Series X, but I'm quite underwhelmed with the picture quality when streaming content within the built-in chromecast. Youtube videos, no matter the quality, look choppy and pixelated. Same goes when casting content from Google Chrome over to the TV. In fact, our 8 year old Panasonic 1080p plasma (hooked up to an Xfinity box) has significantly better picture quality when watching cable. I've heard there is an issue with these TVs and their smartcast system not reaching anywhere near the required bandwidth to stream HD content.

I mainly want to cast video content over from my PC to the TV, and connect to the Xfinity app to stream live TV (I understand this can be sideloaded on to most Android TV systems).

Based on my limited research, it seems the Shield TV features AI upscaling which could drastically improve picture quality when streaming. Will the Shield TV really make a significant difference in terms of picture quality for my Vizio?

Another option is to go with the much cheaper Google Chromecast w/ Google TV. I'm not sure if that would improve the quality of upscaling much, but might be worth a shot.

Question about Google TV and the Twilight app (adjusting TV blue light)

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 03:37 PM PST

In an effort to lower blue light in the evening, I've got f.lux set up on my computer and Twilight on my Pixel. However, the last major source of blue light is my TV – currently, I have a Chromecast Ultra.

As I understand it, if I bought new Chromecast with Google TV, will I be able to install the Twilight app and therefore adjust the colour temperature of my TV (as long as I'm on the Chromecast / Google TV input)? Will this colour temperature maintain while watching Netflix, Prime, etc. on Google TV?

Can you cast without opening an app? (Disney+ Question)

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 04:48 PM PST

I have unlucky enough to have an AndroidTV which does not support Disney Plus. It does not appear in the app store, and when I load it on my phone and attempt to cast, I just get an error message that the app is not supported (which is weird, since I don't want to use the app, I just want to cast.)

So, I know want to know if the claims on the Disney Plus website are true: If I purchase a Google Chromecast HDMI dongle and use it, rather than AndroidTV... would I be able to cast Disney Plus from my phone to my TV?

If so, is there anyway to "dumb down" my AndroidTV's casting and just do it like the Android dongle, which works?

Sorry if all that is confusing, I just find it wild that the play store that my AndroidTV has can't install Disney plus, and even weirder that I can cast to Chromecast Google dongle and have it work, but not Chromecast Android TV. Any help or confirmation would be great. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Playing Local 4K Movies on Chromecast with Google TV without Ethernet

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 06:14 PM PST

I have a CCwGTV working with a USB C hub but don't have the ability to hardwire to the network (old house, far from router, etc.). I have a collection of 4K movies that are too high of bitrate to play over Wi-Fi, even if I plug the server into the router (making Wi-Fi only need to take care of one side of the equation). For the sake of maintaining the picture quality, I don't want Plex to transcode the movies to a lower bitrate.

I bought the USB C hub thinking I could load the movies onto a flash drive and plug them into the Chromecast, but because CC only accepts a FAT32 file system and the movies are minimum 20GB, this didn't work.

My workaround for now is formatting the flash drive as "Internal Storage" on the Chromecast and transferring the movies over Wi-Fi (which takes a very long time with such huge files). With the flash drive formatted that way, I'm unfortunately unable to access it from my computer (Mac) because the format is unreadable to my computer.

Is there a faster way to get these movies onto the Chromecast or am I just SOL? (Was thinking that an ideal way could be to connect the CC to my Mac using Ethernet to transfer the files, although I can't find any information on how to get the 2 devices to recognize each other). Thanks!

    TV Guide

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 05:53 PM PST

I bought a Hisense H65 series 70H6570G during Best Buy's Black Friday sales. It's a fine tv except for one issue I'm having that, dispite my google/reddit searches, have not been able to figure out. I have not been able to find much discussion which leaves me to believe I have something set up wrong.

With a smartTV, I guess I had an expectation there would me some sort of TV Guide/listing/epg for OTA channels. While watching any ota channels, it will display the current program and its description, but I'm not able to see programs for a future time. In addition, I've tried Google's "Live Channels" app which should bring in epg for IPTV AND tuner channels. But this also fails to populate ota channels (PlutoTV worked as expected). One area to note is while setting up channel sources within the Google app, selecting the tuner will display a notification "The input doesn't support auto-scan."

Other apps on the play store seem to pull in data for only IPTV. Are there any apps for OTA channels? Did I screw up a setting somewhere?

Things I've tried/checked: Location by wifi is turned on (tv is connected via ethernet) Checked permissions, all are on Tried 'Live Channels' with PlutoTV disabled Rebooted & power cycles via power cord

Thank you for your efforts to help! Mike

Video call options and remote control question

    Posted: 16 Dec 2020 01:03 PM PST

So with Christmas approaching and us not visiting the grandparents thanks to a certain world event I am looking at options for a user friendly video call. My Philips 7303 doesn't support any webcams thanks to running Android 8. So next best thing would be Google TV dongle and usb c hub for a duo call. assuming that duo plays nice with Google TV, the next thing I wonder about is if there is a chance to remap my Philips remote so that I can use the home button to go straight for the dongle rather than the outdated android version it comes with. I assume that all other functions would work as normal within the dongle thanks to cec and there would be no actual need for the tiny remote? Anyone has tried something like this before ? Thanks
