Unknown notification sound without notification Posted: 11 Dec 2020 08:44 AM PST My aunt came today and asked why her phone plays a notification sound without notification. Her phone plays a sound like touch sound in a phone without touching so I looked to app settings and notification settings but couldn't find anything. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 10 Dec 2020 11:48 PM PST I have a Samsung galaxy note 10 plus 5g, previously I had a Samsung galaxy s10 plus, my question is about the built in anti virus and security (knox). Basically Ive always wondered why we have anti virus apps on the play store when the built in anti virus/security is supposed so good on modern phones.. so i was scrolling through news articles and found an ad for totalAV for android.. normally I don't trust those annoying ads on news articles online, but I thought this one looked like your generic 'too good to be be true' claim so did some research about said app (out of curiosity) and well according to trust pilot, and play store reviews this app is the best thing since sliced bread... so my questions are: Is Samsung built in security and anti virus any good? Are these third party apps like (avast, avg, etc.) Actually worth downloading? Is totalAV any good? Should I be concerned that my built in protection isn't protecting me? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Dec 2020 08:45 AM PST Hello "Hey Google" / "OK Google" from home screen or when phone is locked doesn't work when Google app 11.x is installed, and haven't for quite some time on my Oneplus 6 with OxygenOS 10.3.7. It didn't work on 10.3.6 either, and I'm confident it has been like this for somethng around a year's time. The only solution that worked for me is to downgrade (uninstall) the Google app so that I get an older 10.x version (10.97.8.21.arm64) installed instead, after which I set the Android language for the O/S to English and re-enter Google -> Settings -> Assistant and re-enable Hey Google. At this point, I'm presented with the activation wizard for Hey Google and the assistant, the apps lets me know that Google Voice is already configured for my device, and the assistant responds to Hey Google / OK Google on home screen or when phone is locked. I've made numerous attempts to troubleshoot and fix this issue, resorting to Google support articles and many, many forum posts and other places detailing this problem. Retrain voice model, delete all previous data, factory resets, language settings for Assistant and Android, disabling and re-enabling Hey Google, removing other smart devices (Nest Mini) and leaving them there, cleaning cache and data for the Google app, I've tried lots and lots of things... As far as I can tell, this issue has been introduced in the 11.x version, leading me to suspect there's been some major change introduced for Android 11 which breaks Google Assistant/Hey Google functionality outside the Google app on Android 10 phones. Do note that "Hey Google" works inside the Google app and the assistant wakes up. Since the UI has changed somewhat majorly between Google app 10.x and 11.x, namely that the Phone isn't listed as a device for the Assistant in the same way, and the activate Hey Google wizard never is launched/presented on the Google app 11.x version, I'm inclined to assume this is breaking updates that aren't backward compatible with Android 10. So my questions to you guys are:
Given that I've tried most and every trick I can think of to get this to work, only to have a almost-fully-working Hey Google experience by downgrading and manually skipping upgrades of the Google app, I'm very interested in a solution to this, as I find Hey Google very appealing and useful for me. How do I remove the separate media control notification from the Android 11 lock screen? Posted: 11 Dec 2020 12:14 PM PST Audible has its own control notification for the lock screen, but Android 11 (OneUI 3) has a second, separate one. How do I kill it? Samsung Galaxy S20 UW [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Dec 2020 12:08 PM PST Hey guys! I just changed my SSID password with the help of my ISP provider. However, now I can't connect to the 2.4ghz nor the 5ghz of the WiFi. I enter the new password and it says "incorrect". I enter the old one and it shows the same. For reference, I use Samsung Galaxy S10+. It worked fine when I was talking to the ISP provider, but now it doesn't. The ISP support line is closed for the day. So if you have any insights on how to solve this, I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:57 AM PST Hello all. I have never rooted a phone before, but want to learn without riscing my daily driver, so i bought a cheap phone to experiment with, a Motorola Moto G8 Power. My first attempt was a complete failure, but thanks to some really great advice from people here, i manage to rescue the phone. I still want to root it though, but i cant find any reliable instructions on the web. Does anyone here know how to do it? Im willing to change to a different os if it is necessary. The bootloader is already unlocked from my earlier attempts, and the phone has been reflashed with Motorolas official "Rescue and Smart Assistant" with the correct firmware and working as normal. I also installed a new microsd card today if that makes any difference. Would greatly appreciate any and all advice you all might have. [link] [comments] |
Mirroring your Android with a USB-C Port to an HDMI TV Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:41 AM PST Has anyone successfully mirrored their Android phone to an HDMI TV with, Just an HDMI cable or USB-C to HDMI Hub? I've been trying to connect my Dad's LG Q Stylo+ Android phone running Android 8 (Oreo) to an ASUS TV model # MT276HE that supports HDMI v1.3 using a QGeeM USB C 4 in 1 Hub, without success. Also, I've tried to connect my Google Pixel 2 to HDMI but I've been told by Google Pixel support that Android does and does not support HDMI. I was getting conflicting messages from Google Pixel Support depending on which Google Tech I talked to. So I'm not convinced it doesn't actually work. I'm thinking that according to the HDMI standards listed on Wikipedia it is possible that they are right but for the wrong reasons and that it might work. But it is possible they are correct because the USB-C chipset included in many Android Phones might not include a Dual-mode transmitter as per what is said in the HDMI Legacy Compatibility section on Wikipedia. Thoughts? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Legacy_compatibility "The USB 3.1 Type-C connector is an emerging standard that replaces legacy video connectors such as mDP, Thunderbolt, HDMI, and VGA in mobile devices. USB-C connectors can transmit DisplayPort video to docks and displays using standard USB Type-C cables or Type-C to DisplayPort cables and adapters; USB-C also supports HDMI adapters that actively convert from DisplayPort to HDMI 1.4 or 2.0. DisplayPort Alternate Mode for USB Type-C specification was published in 2015. USB Type-C chipsets are not required to include Dual-mode transmitters and only support DisplayPort LVDS protocol, so passive DP-HDMI adapters do not work with Type-C sources." [link] [comments] |
Anyone know how to fix the speech-to-text "comma" to "oh," bug in Android 11? Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:26 AM PST All the advice I can find for this applies to prior versions of Android and doesn't work because the settings are different. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:05 AM PST As the title says I'm locked out. I've tried every password I can think of and no option to reset with the Google account. I've tried simultaneously pressing the power key and volume up key while it's of to bring up another menu to factory reset it but that does nothing. Is there any way to factory data reset it without the password? [link] [comments] |
Facebook messenger video quality ? Posted: 11 Dec 2020 10:43 AM PST Hey all. My wife had an iPhone. Recently she went to android. She said video sent to her in Facebook messenger is very grainy / low quality compared to how it viewed on her iPhone. Any idea what gives? I can confirm 4k or even 1080p video on my phone looks great, but when it goes through messenger to her, looks awful.. the part that's odd was that wasn't the case when she had her iPhone and I'd send her a video the same way. Any tips? Thanks.. [link] [comments] |

Apps crash when when Keyboard is called Posted: 11 Dec 2020 09:51 AM PST Any app I bring up will launch and run fine as long as no keyboard call is made. Chrome can launch pages by clicking on bookmarks, can read and highlight PDFs in Acrobat reader, Netflix works, on and on and on. But as soon as I try to invoke the keyboard in an app, that app stops, e.g., "Unfortunately, Chrome has stopped". Circumstances where this happens, consistently when the application makes a call to the keyboard:

How to stop all apps showing on home screen? Posted: 11 Dec 2020 09:28 AM PST My phone used to work whereby if I swiped up all of my apps would appear. when I did this, in the the top right corner there was a settings button. I clicked this and it gave me the option to change from this setting to having all of my apps display on my home screen. being an idiot, I chose this and now I can't change it back. there is no settings icon like there was before, and when I swipe up it just gives me a search bar. I can't find anything in the Settings app about changing this back. can anyone help? I can give more information if that's needed. [link] [comments] |
My phone made an Emergency call when I was asleep. How? Posted: 10 Dec 2020 03:34 PM PST At 1:30am this morning my family was woken by the 000 operator message playing really loudly on speaker phone. My call log shows I rang 000 for 1.33 minutes. The phone was on the dressing table. Everyone was definitely in bed. I don't have any voice control over the phone even when I try. The weirdest part is that I WAS having a violent nightmare where I was about to be stabbed. If it makes a difference, the phone was right next to a brand new (first night) CPAP machine. What is going on? Long time reader, first time poster. edit: It's a Galaxy A51 and the emergency tab doesn't have any automatic dialling at all. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Dec 2020 09:15 AM PST I'll get straight to the point, I have a Xiaomi Note 4 and for some reason I can't see the 🥺🥺 emoji. It appears as a rectangle with a cross in between. Now if you say that my software might not support it, I happen to have a friend with the same phone and she can the emoji. My phones software is up to date. Any idea on what the problem is? Any browsers that convert bright webpages to dark? Posted: 11 Dec 2020 05:12 AM PST So I have the dark reader extension for my laptop but I really want some equivalent for Android so I can read white webpages at night (mostly the practical guide to evil). Is there a good android browser that does so? Or some way to get extensions on chrome? Bonus points if the browser has a password/credit card manager or let's me use the Google one. Is it possible to emulate or run Windows XP? Posted: 11 Dec 2020 06:16 AM PST I know it's a stupid question and that it's an arm based chip. It doesn't even have to be XP it could be any of them. What's the possibility of it being possible? [link] [comments] |
Broken Lenovo phone which has important documents Posted: 11 Dec 2020 06:04 AM PST My sister's old phone has a photo of her marriage certificate. Her kids have somehow managed to break the phone. The phone does not work and it doesn't even show up when connected to a computer. I have tried a few data recovery softwares for mobile but since the phone does not show up when I connect it to my computer none of the softwares work. By the looks of it the phone seems to be an old Lenovo phone and there is no way for me to repair the phone. Is there any way that I can get the data in the phone. Preferably only the photos. Tasks not showing up in calendar Posted: 11 Dec 2020 04:17 AM PST With the "Add To Tasks" feature in the Gmail app, and the connection between my email and my calendar, I'd expected that when I add an email to tasks (example in pic linked), it'd show up on my calendar widget as a task, or a to-do. I use Business Calendar 2 widget to display my google calendar. Can't seem to get this to work, has anyone had success please and thank you!
