What are your top 5 phones of 2020, and why?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 12:05 PM PST

The reason I am making it a top 5 is because there have been so many great phones in 2020. Both flagships and budgets too. It seems like every phone is offering top notch experience nowadays.

For me, they are the following:

    • Google Pixel 4a - Probably the perfect budget phone - Has everything one would need. It has a minimalistic, practical, and utilitarian design and build. Great size. It's a tool. Great camera, 128GB storage (64GB is what killed 3a for me), fast enough SoC, it really covers all points. If I had to get a phone now, Pixel 4a is what I would get.

    • Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus - Great camera, design (not a bad curve), 120Hz, Samsung greatly improved their version of Android. This could have easily been a flagship to replace the Ultra and because of its more realistic price, I think it did replace it for a lot people.

    • OnePlus 8 Pro - Very close to S20+. Very impressive specifications as always, but this time OnePlus also includes a great camera sensor too. But the curved screen ruins it for me. Overall OnePlus 8 Pro and S20 Plus seem like very similar phones to me.

    • iPhone 12 Mini - Awesome small phone, beautiful design, great battery. Will hopefully "inspire" Android manufacturers to make similar sized phones.

    • Google Pixel 5 - Just like 4a, very utilitarian design (the front of it is beautiful with symmetrical bezels). But I feel for the "5" designation, it lacks a few things, notably: 120Hz screen, UFS 3.0 storage, Bigger/Newer/Better Sensor, zoom lens. Plus its camera has worse details than Pixel 4. And it's not exactly cheap. Still, after the four phones before this one, I would get the Pixel 5.

No, OnePlus hasn't switched from a bi-monthly to a quarterly update schedule
