As the single Android Developer working on an app (your own app), how did you advertise/market your app?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 02:03 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

I have asked this particular question, because I am sure most of us, independent developers and beginners, have a hard time making our apps known by people. And the answers might help others.

I have personally tried paid advertising (which wasn't efficient) and posting on social media (this was more efficient). I have also tried contacting YouTubers, but it is too expensive to collaborate with them.

What are your other methods of advertising your apps? (if you are willing to share)

    Many thanks!

    MVVM vs MVI

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 12:28 PM PST

I am familiar with MVVM and repository pattern. I am trying to understand MVI pattern. Some questions on MVI:

    1) In what situations can MVI shine over MVVM?

    2) Given reactive callbacks when database changes using Livedata/Flow, can we use App State in sealed class + MVVM + Livedata Observer to do what MVI is trying to do?

Hi all i am trying to explore AR applications so for now i am kinda reading about ARcore samples and sceneform sdk but i noticed that mostly AR apps are build with unity so i would like to ask should i continue learning AR with Android studio or i should do it with unity .

FYI my purpose for using AR is building some cool apps maybe not too big and not looking for games because i think it requires math and physics :D which i am afraid to test my skills "correct me if i am wroing plz" .

Increased store listing visitors from "Unknown Region" starting from Nov 2 (launch of new console)

    Hello,

we are seeing an increased number of store listing visitors from "Unknown Region" across all apps in our portfolio, starting from November 2 that is the launch day of the new Google Play Console.

Does anyone have more info about the "country" Unknown region? Is it a bug in the console?

Any fix for an app that keeps rotating on launch? Android 11?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 11:28 PM PST

I got a thermostat app that is not functioning correctly since I've updated to Android 11. I did contact the developer however there is no response so clearly customer service is not existent lesson learned is there anything I can do on my end as far as developer options go? Any sort of run-in compatibility mode or is that just a windows thing?

Upon launch of the app it just rotates back and forth despite screen rotation being off. I have already tried installing yet it doesn't fix it

Good up-to-date android dev course (free or paid)

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 10:55 AM PST

Can you guys tell me where can I find good course(s) to learn android dev? I come from a web dev background, with good experience in JS, if that helps. I am looking for a course, where they teach instead of like 'This is how you can achieve this', I would like it to be 'This is how you can achieve this, and that is how devs out there do it'.

Looking for a new learning resource.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 09:16 AM PST

I just recently finished the 4th edition big nerd ranch guide for Android programming (kotlin).

Loved it, I'm actually going through it again to get a better understanding.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a book or other learning resource for android development?

    Thank you :)

DialogFragments as separate destinations with their own ViewModel or handled by the fragment that shows it?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:28 PM PST

You can add DialogFragments as destinations in the Jetpack Navigation Component. Now I am unsure if I should treat them as completely separate fragments (i.e. give them their own ViewModel, trigger DB operations in the viewModelScope, use the fragments result API to communicate back to the underlying fragment etc.) or do it the "old" way by simply sending the button click back to the underlying fragment via an interface which then does the actual work (via its ViewModel).

I actually like the first approach but it also means that I usually have to disable the automatic dismissal behavior of the dialog by overriding its positive button, because usually, it's my ViewModel that tells the fragment when to leave the screen.
