True Miracast from Windows 10 to Chromecast with Google TV?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 03:35 AM PST

The FireTV 4k does support Miracast out of the box.

I could use Windows+P on my Windows 10 laptop and use the FireTV 4k as secondary display, ether clone, extend or use only this display.

I can't do this with the Chromecast with Google TV or the Shield TV 2019 which are both Android TV devices. Do I need a special app to make that working properly? Does anyone have experience with that?

I know about the possibility to "stream my desktop" via google Chrome, but it's not the same. You can't extend your desktop that way.

I know that there are Android apps which bring this function. I am just asking if I somehow miss the integrated feature or if someone has a recommendation (as there seem to be thousands of apps for that).

    Thank you!

How do I make the TV power on to HDMI instead of the Android home screen?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 06:09 AM PST

I recently bought a Haier Android TV. We rarely use the apps/ smart features on the TV and it would be great if the TV showed my HDMI input by default instead of the Android home screen.

This is mainly for my grandparents- they are quite old and not comfortable with the routine of (turn on tv with remote 1, but the home screen loads up -> change input to hdmi -> change channel using remote 2)

The TV model is a Haier LE32K6000GA. But I'd love any advice on how you might have done it with your tv.

TL;DR: I do not want to see the Android TV home screen with all its apps when i turn on the tv. Is there a way to make it default to the HDMI input (like a non-smart tv?)

What are some must have free apps for streaming tv shows and movies? It sucks that the Xfinity Stream app doesn't work on Android TV.

ESPN+ bad quality and buggy app on Sony Android TV.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 08:51 AM PST

As the title says. After I performed on update on my Sony TV (about 5 years old) the ESPN+ app has stopped working. It starts out very low quality, then within 10-15 seconds the quality gets better but then I keep getting green screens and lagging to the point where it just buffers. I have tried to use both ethernet and wifi. I have also factory reset both the apps and the tv. The app works in other tv's around the home (not android tv's) and other apps like CBS & Youtube work perfectly fine. Any recommendations or help?

    Thanks!

New beta rolling out for Mi Box S/4K

Does everyone know about button mapper? It's so great for TVs with built in AndroidTV.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 03:28 PM PST

I just got an Sony OLED with Android TV and the button mapper app is so awesome.

I mapped the color buttons to open apps:

    Yellow - Plex

Red - YouTube, (double click) YouTube Music

    Green - Hulu

    Blue - Prime Video

re-mapped the Google Play button to YouTube TV (kept Google Play as the double click)

It's awesome enough for how easy it makes life but it's a total game changer for the wife factor.

I think it was like $5 but money very well spent. Simple function, perfect execution.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 11:20 AM PST

    Hello,

Is there any appwith more advanced modes to control official Abilight in my Philips 2020? It works with video well, but want to get better results for music visualization.

Or just set it to display colors for each LED I select.

Xiaomi mi box S Vs Fire stick

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 10:29 AM PST

    Hi all!

So for some context, I'm a British expat living abroad in the Netherlands. Since I've moved, it's been a pain to try and find the old shows I used to watch in the UK as well as streaming sports/football.

So I'm looking at getting an Android TV box of some description and the two that seem to be most commonly available are the Xiaomi mi box S, and the fire stick.

Is there any advice as to which I should get? They both seem pretty similar but I'm not sure which is better at what I want:

    1) Performs well and doesn't lag/glitch 2) Supports 4K 3) Most importantly, can get me Kodi (Or whatever else can get me British TV and football)

    Thanks in advance :)

YouTube homescreen channels never showed up

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 09:59 AM PST

    hey guys

last weekend I bought a TCL AndroidTV and I'm really enjoying it, but I never understood why YouTube homescreen channels never showed up. I installed SmartTube Next Beta and those channels work, but I'd rather use the native YouTube app bc I prefer it's UI over the SmartTube one.

    Why is this happening?

PS: since I'm new to this, are there any apps/tweaks to make my experience better with AndroidTV?

    Android TV advice

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 08:27 PM PST

I'm looking to buy an android TV box. It should be able to use Zaap Tv. Basically stream 100s of channels live from the middle east. Zaap tv is an app on playstore and they have a tv app version. It would also be nice to have Kodi .

Would the Chromecast with Google tv be enough to handle it, especially with alot of live streaming?

    Edit: typo

Free Chromecast Ultra... bye bye CC with GTV

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 10:33 AM PST

I pre-ordered the CC with GTV and to be honest I'm sick of it, sick of the ads, sick of it blasting shows and services at me that I have no interest with. My wife finds it beyond complicated and just casts to it.

Even in app only mode it still shows shows I don't want, sad I can just set it to ambient mode permanently.

I have it set to stay awake and yet every time I turn on my TV it is asleep and needs the remote pressed to wake up, all these little niggles just make it too annoying.

I have just been offered a free CC Ultra with Stadia pro (2 in fact) and if it works okay with Plex I'm just going to sell the CC with GTV. Sad that it's been so disappointing and I can't be bothered hacking it with 3rd party launchers that look rubbish.

It's a great price but it's a very bumpy ride for the average user and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to relatives given how confusing the UI is.

Anyone else finding it a real disappointment?
