Hi everyone, is it possible to connect an already paired set of Bluetooth headphones (Sony WF 1000xm3) to my android tv without having to re-pair them each time after using them with a different device?

    Thanks!

Can Google TV do that? Can smart tvs in general do it?

For the election I'm switching back and forth between channels and I thought this might be useful.

Audio Delay from TCL 50S434 to soundbar

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 07:13 PM PST

I've recently purchased the 50" 50S434 TCL television. The picture is a nice upgrade from my old 1080p TV that died, but I've had significant issues with audio. The main issue I'm having is that there is considerable audio delay going to the soundbar.

Audio setup: I'm using optical audio out to send the audio signal to my Vizio SB3621n-E8 soundbar. Initially, I couldn't get any sound to come out of the soundbar. Eventually, I swapped to a different optical audio cable, and then the sound went through. Later, I swapped back to the original cable and the sound mysteriously continued working. I can only assume that maybe I didn't quite have the cable seated properly? Regardless, that's not the main issue - I'm just providing the background in case it's relevant.

    Troubleshooting so far:

    1. When I use the TV's built-in speakers, there is no appreciable audio delay, so the issue appears to be specifically related to the optical audio out signal.
    2. I tried using the TV's built-in apps to eliminate the possibility that the delay arose from my other devices connected via HDMI. This did not reduce the delay.
    3. I have tried all of the options under Digital Audio Out. Auto gives me a delay of about 125 ms. PCM yields a delay of about 125 ms if I set the Digital Audio Out Delay to -50 (the minimum value), and it's worse for any higher values on Digital Audio Out Delay. Pass Through seems to be the best so far, but the delay still seems to be about 60 ms. All delay amounts were determined using an audio sync YouTube video. But it's certainly fair to say that the delay is glaringly obvious any time a mouth can be seen emitting speech on screen.
    4. The soundbar did not have appreciable delay on my old TV that just died, so given that the TV is the only variable that's changed in my setup, I assume this new TV is the culprit.
    5. I've downloaded the manual for the soundbar, and I didn't find any settings that would allow me to affect the audio delay. I tried disabling TruVolume and TruSurround HD, but neither of these helped.
    6. I've tried various Picture Mode options for the TV, but none of these impacted the audio delay.
    7. I've tried various Sound Mode options for the TV, but these didn't alter the behavior, either.
    8. Since the "Pass Through" audio option has the least delay so far, I have tried "Auto Volume Control" being both on and off; no change in the delay behavior.
    9. As mentioned earlier, I've tried two different optical audio cables - same behavior on both.
    10. I've rebooted (unplugged and replugged) both the soundbar and the TV, to no avail.

So I'm not sure where to go from here! I guess the "dumb" solution would be to send the sound via Bluetooth and hope that's better, but that doesn't feel like an acceptable long-term solution; surely a wired connection should be the highest-quality option, with the lowest latency. Was the TV just designed with such focus on ARC that the Digital Optical Out option was never fully optimized? Am I out of luck?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Chromecast with Google TV: Index Kodi content?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:42 AM PST

The cross app search is ace. I've sideloaded Kodi which is great at indexing my media server content, pulling in artwork and maintaining which movies/tv shows I watched, and even the positons.

So it would be perfect for the two to talk to each other, which they don't right now. Is this just a pipe dream?

    Mi Box S 4K - Interface Question

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:31 AM PST

Purchased this today and am expecting it to arrive soon:
    https://shopee.com.my/product/2128004/3944035406

Just wondering what the interface is like or if there is considerable lag on this hardware? Will be using the latest version of AndroidTV for Netflix, Plex, and SteamLink. It doesn't seem like most buttery smooth interface at 60fps based on videos I have watched but maybe that has been fixed now with a certain version of AndroidTV in 2020?

Integrated "my library" on Google TV missing

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:11 AM PST

Before I had YTTV, i watched most of my shows live, without a DVR. Whenever I missed an episode, i would purchase that single episode on what was then Google Play Movies and Tv. For example, i purchased the first three episodes of The Good Doctor. I got YTTV just before season 2 started, and now recording season 2 and 3 in there.

When I now click on "my library" in the chromecast with Google TV interface, and select "the good doctor" under shows, it only shows the three episodes i once purchased on Google play Movies and TV. Isn't it very strange that my YTTV recordings are not integrated here? Very annoying!

Same applies to "movies" under "my library". Wouldn't it be nice if it merged all recorded movies on YTTV with the GPM purchases? (Or even better: also any movies we have on our Netflix or HBO Max or Amazon prime etc. watchlist? I can understand that working with these third parties would be difficult... But not integrating there YTTV library here? Really?

How to mark season/episode as watched?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:09 AM PST

In the Google TV interface, you can mark a TV Show as"watched". Why is there no option to only mark episodes or specific seasons as watched? Example: i marked The Good Doctor as watched. But now the new season started, and i obviously didn't watch any of these new episodes yet.. but Google TV now thinks i watched them once they are released, because i marked the show as watched before (which was true at that time).

Suggestion: please allow us to mark episodes or seasons as watched and keep track automatically once new episodes arrive and are watched... Or remove the "mark as watched" option for tv show altogether. It's confusing.

Google TV does not recommend YouTube TV shows

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 11:13 PM PST

I noticed my Google TV does not recommend anything from YouTube TV. And when I search a show I have on YTTV it does not allow it to be watchlisted nor show it as a source. Did I do something wrong or is this happening to others?

Does Stadia started to support the "Chromecast built-in"?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 11:00 AM PST

Looks like Stadia on smartphones started to support the "Chromecast built-in" on Android TV devices.

Tapping on the "Cast" icon should present any Android TV device available in the LAN.

I've read some article in spanish about it.

    Can anyone confirm this?

(TCL Model-55S434 55’ No way to change audio settings?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 06:25 PM PST

I recently purchased new TCL Model 55S434 Android TV from Best Buy and just now gotten around to hooking it up.

Due to being hard of hearing I usually use headphones which uses Optical Out which I made sure this TV had well got everything set up but no sound from the headphones but coming out of the TV.

I've gone into the settings and audio out is set but no sound from the headphones anybody got any suggestions?

The manual that came with the TV is a 5 step guide of how to put on the base, setup Android and how much they'll fuck you with the warranty

Is there an app that has all the major news stations?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 10:49 AM PST

Many of the news outlets have their own live streams, sometimes on YouTube, sometimes on their own app.

Does any app have all the main ones where you can easily click between them like TV?

Gradient Background Gone From home Screen

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:23 PM PST

When the staff picks first came along, I uninstalled updates to remove them. They popped up again today, so I did the same thing. After setting up my home screen again (approx. 10 mins later), the ads popped up. I've followed the advice here, so fingers crossed it holds: https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/i7r38r/turn_off_google_play_staff_picks/

My issue is that the gradient background on my home screen is gone. This happened the first time i had to do an uninstall, but came back quickly. This time no luck. The solid back bothers me.

    Does anyone have any advice?

ps: I really wish Google wouldn't force users to take such measures to avoid unsolicited advertisement, ads on a home page is taking it a bit too far.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 02:15 PM PST

When you watch a YouTube video or music, how can you go to the next (or previous) track using the physical remote of the Google TV dongle?

Pressing the disc to the right only skip forward in the current track.

Android TV 9.0 Upgrade - Space Required?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:58 AM PST

My TV is currently running Android TV 8.0. It's a Hisense 55H8809 (H8F).

When I attempt a software update, it tells me there are no updates available. Hisense has indicated the Android TV 9.0 update is available for this set.

Hisense suggested this may be due to lack of space on my device. I have about 1.7 GB free.

Does anyone who has upgraded remember how big the Android TV 9 download was? Or know how much free space I might need?

Any other ideas on why it might say there are no updates available are welcome too.

    Thanks!
