| How can I make an Android device more private and secure? Posted: 14 Nov 2020 08:48 AM PST I'm highly considering going back to Android from iPhone for my next phone. One thing I like about Apple is their device privacy (well, until a certain video was posted today). From what I remember Android is more open than iOS, and less secure/private. I'm specifically I'm looking at a OnePlus 8+ for my next phone. What can I do (either on stock or rooted Android) to make my device secure and private? [link] [comments] |
| Is there something similar to iOS spotlight search, where I can search my text messages and email? Posted: 14 Nov 2020 08:09 AM PST Is there something similar to iOS spotlight search, where I can search text from my text messages and emails. Even better if I could also search the app store as well. I'm running Android 11 on Pixel 3. [link] [comments] |
| Will any 15W wireless charger work with Samsung Fast Charge 2.0? Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:03 AM PST Just got a new Galaxy FE, and looking to pick up a wireless charger, but getting a bit confused with all the different versions and jargon. As far as I can tell, I want something that takes advantage of Samsung's Fast Charge 2.0. Is that only the Samsung chargers, or will any charger with 15W output do it? Also- it sounds like cooling is important, but how much cooling? Are there any recommended wireless chargers that have cooling, are good for Samsung, and aren't crazy expensive? Or should I just suck it up and buy the Samsung charger stand for 56 bucks on Amazon? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
| Disabling 'Bluetooth Absolute Volume' did nothing. Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:32 AM PST Helloooo I've been digging around the internet about this for about 2 weeks and it has been frusterating to say the least. Currently on Android 9. Trying to use the bluetooth with some wireless earbuds, and haven't been able to fix it. I've tried using volume booster apps as well to some success, it works maybe 10% of them time. At the point where I might just return the earbuds and go back to wired cause it seems to be an issue with Android 9 itself. And I don't like update the os on a phone that wasn't built for it, it's always caused issues for me. If anyone has a fix it would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
| is there a alternative to windows 10 app companion that allows app mirroring from my pixel 4a ? Posted: 14 Nov 2020 08:31 AM PST since Samsung phones have the ability to use apps on windows 10 with windows phone companion is there 3rd party app that i can do the same thing without having a Samsung phone that i can use for my google pixel 4a [link] [comments] |

| How to recover all photos from Google Photos? Posted: 13 Nov 2020 06:42 PM PST I have a total of 250 GB of photos and videos uploaded into Google Photos and 100's of albums. That was probably my first mistake. Now that Google has decided to charge users using Google Photos, I am planning to do 2 things:
To my surprise, Google has made it so hard that there is no way to mass download all the photos at Google Photos at once and only way to do this is by using Google Takeout. When I tried Google Takeout, the zip not only had photos but a tonne of other files. I also noticed a lot of EXIF data that has been lost. My question to the community is, is there a way to do this download process like a normal human would do? Like click on download button and a zip of all my photos are there waiting for me without the loss of EXIF? [link] [comments] |
| USB to sync to google photos without internal transfer. Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:56 AM PST I want to use my pixel to upload photos in original quality without transferring them into my phone to make sure it survives to the foreseeable future.
So, is there anyway to set this up or is it impossible without transfer? If so how many read writes does a phone usually have? [link] [comments] |
| Motorola G6 Play got water damaged, now little white flickers at the top? Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:25 AM PST So my Motorola G6 Play got water damaged. I put it in some rice overnight, and this morning I put it in its charger. Tried turning it on, instead got a little white light flickering around the top-left of the phone. Does anyone know what this means? I've also attempted to take the SIM card out to no luck, it seems to be jammed in there. EDIT: Well, at least I got the SIM card out. [link] [comments] |
| Gboard won't clear data/suggestions Posted: 14 Nov 2020 01:09 PM PST I have a Samsung Galaxy S10e and whenever I clear the keyboard data from advanced settings on Gboard or manually remove words from the suggestion strip, they come back as soon as I use another device with Gboard installed from the same google account (tried removing from all devices and manually removing the words but when I install gboard on a different device again the words come back) I type in different languages and sometimes type Arabic words phonetically and they show up in the suggestions and I just want to reset my keyboard and get rid of them, when I downgraded to an older version I was able to clear the keyboard, but when I updated the words came back. In earlier versions of the Gboard clearing data would work but I don't know what to do now. Any help would be appreciated, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing app data and cache, wiping system cache, installing an older version and clearing (which got rid of the words but the second I updated the keyboard they came back). | Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:21 AM PST I am working on building an LFS (Linux From Scratch) system and love the creative and customization abilities I get from doing so. I use my phone a lot, for texting, watching videos, and sometimes work. I was curious, can you build Android from scratch as you can Linux? I have been able to find how to build it from source, but not building it from scratch (building the filesystem hierarchy, building the actual OS (kernel, Binutils, etc), building userland, configuring). Could anyone point me in the correct direction? Thank you. [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:08 AM PST I'm on a galaxy s8 and my call volume is way too low. Initially I thought it was because the speaker was dirty but even when I'm on headphones and the volume is turned all the way up I can still barely hear it. This only happens when I'm on a call. If I'm using facetime on another app or I'm listening to music or a video the volume works completely fine. Is there a way I can fix this? [link] [comments] |
| What are pit files and when should they be used?[Help] Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:54 AM PST Hello I don't know much about custom roms. When looking at custom roms for my phone, I have the one with the pit file and its size is up to 10gb. I do not have an internet connection for home. When there is a problem, I cannot download a file of this size. Thank you in advance for your answers. I'am sorry for my English. [link] [comments] |
| Most of my Android Hardware is going to be obsolete for the web? Posted: 14 Nov 2020 02:09 AM PST I have a Moto G4, Motorola X Force 2, Ellipsis 8, Ellipsis 10, and Nexus 7 among other Android electronics. I have a Kindle Fire HD 8 16 GB as well. I read that a web certificate isn't going to be updated for versions before Nougat and that 1/3 will not be usable for the web. So, does that mean that I can no longer use my devices for web surfing and other functions that I need it to? I haven't had system updates for my Motorola devices or anything else for that matter. So some run Lollipop, Marshmallow, and maybe Nougat? I use my tablets for Google Books, web surfing, watching YouTube, using Plex, SiriusXM, Spotify... I imagine some of these services will stop working. Is there a fix in the works? Most articles I read just say I should upgrade my phone but I really don't want to. [link] [comments] |
| Google assistant acting weird on p20 lite Posted: 14 Nov 2020 08:44 AM PST I got a p20 lite a year or so ago. Its been working fine so far except for one little hiccup. I am not sure how long this has been a problem but i inly noticed it a few weeks ago when i was trying to set an alarm using the google assistant but it just wouldn't respond. The 4 dots m would flicker like it was listening for sth but not hearing anything. I tried all the options like updating the assistant and tinkering with settings but nothing seemed to work and since i barely used my phone at home i didnt pay much attention and just dropped it. But a couple days ago, i noticed that if i activated google assistant using my earphones (galaxy buds+ if thats relevant), my first command worked but then it fell dead again, i tapped the microphone button it lit up with that weird lighting but it didn't record any command that i said, aside from the first one just after i activated it using the earbuds. Any idea why this is happening and how i can fix it? Edit: I am not entirely sure exactly what more info could be relevant to this question so if i am missing sth, do let me know so i can add that as well [link] [comments] |
| Screen has burnt-in Pixels, anyone got experience with these burn-in-reducing Apps? Posted: 14 Nov 2020 05:47 AM PST My screen has pink/brown-ish burnt-in Pixels. I'm pretty sure they came after I accidentially left a game open over night and my phone got really hot. These burnt-in Pixels even have the exact same pattern than something from this game I used to play. I downloaded the App "OLED Tools" where I can select a feature that switches between a bright Green, Red and Blue screen every second and apparently that is supposed to even the Pixels out and make them disappear. I haven't noticed anything yet. But maybe it's just because I didn't leave it on for long enough? Would really like some help with that, these Pixels bother me a lot. I'm using Samsung Galaxy A6, if that matters. [link] [comments] |

| How can I clean the headphone port? ...With hopefully hydrogen peroxide and cotton swabs Posted: 14 Nov 2020 10:46 AM PST So I might've came into my headphone jack on accident which I think has left the headphone icon on so that my phone thinks headphones are in. I plugged earphones in and it still plays sound but the icon is always on. Could this be another issue besides something getting stuck in there? [link] [comments] |
| Picking what budget phone to purchase Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:44 AM PST Hello! I am looking for a budget phone under 200 dollars to purchase for myself, which is powerful enough to last me 5ish years. I am currently looking at the Motorola Moto G Power. Should I purchase this phone now, or wait for a month or two to purchase another phone? Please leave your opinions/suggestions in the comments. *Clarification: The phone needs to be able to work on CDMA [link] [comments] |
| Question about signal for different phones Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:36 AM PST So at my flat I get solid full signal at all times however I've one friend who was getting barely any and my gf suffers the same problem. 3 different phones and 3 different networks. I'm looking to upgrade and my question is how will I know what the signal is like? My understanding is its based both for phone networks as well as the phone itself so is there anyway I can know before getting a new phone and seeing its useless to me with no signal?
