Chromecast TV USB 3.0 flash drive performance

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 07:24 PM PDT

I have an Anker usb 3.0 hub: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089M7WSHM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    I have a Sandisk Extreme Go: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NARBPI7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    I'm using a 12W apple power brick (I also tested with a 29W).

The same stick on my Nvidia shield using Disk Speed Test shows over 100MB/sec for both read and write. On the Chromecast its showing 36MB/25MB. I tried a few other USB 3.0 sticks I had laying around and also got low numbers.

So I installed "USB Host Test" and it shows the Sandisk Extreme as "USB 2.1" not 3.x.

Does the Chromecast not support USB 3.x storage? The Anker is a USB 3.0 hub. Any thoughts?

Android tV (Sony Bravia model) Google Play Store Problems

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 09:15 PM PDT

Hey everyone, sorry to post a seemingly basic question, but google isn't being any help at all so I hoped the community might have some ideas for me. My parents bought a Sony Bravia TV from Costco the other day and asked me to set it up for them. The thing is, while I have it connected to their network (YouTube and Prime video apps work) the play store seems to be malfunctioning. When I launch the app, it shows a list of popular apps (Prime video, Netflix, etc.), but if I go to search for apps, there are always no results. No matter if I type something general (like "Google") or the specific name of the app I want, there are always no results. Has anybody seen something like this before?

    Parental Controls?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:36 PM PDT

Hi. I have a nVidia Shield TV 2019. Is there a way to install parental controls on the device to prevent kids from using the device, and say, PIN-protect it?

For example, I want to lock-out my kids from TV from 5pm-6pm (dinner time) and 8pm to 8am (bed time). When the 8pm pops in, I'd like the Shield to just stop what it's doing and present a PIN prompt.

Is there anything l like that at all?

I saw a post about "DinnerTime" but it seems it only works with tablets an mobile devices? does it work with Shield TV? I havent seen it on the store...

I know I could prevent this at the firewall level using rules etc, but I can't expect the wife to login to my router if she wants to watch tv at night when the kids are asleep...

How has the new update been for Mi Box 3 users?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:36 PM PDT

I turned on my Mi Box 3 after 2 months of no usage. I got prompted with a new android system update. I haven't installed it, since something usually breaks after updating.

Can anyone with a Mi Box 3 share what they've experienced with the new update?

I watch a lot of movies with KODI and it works pretty good for the most part. I'd really hate to lose that by keeping it up to date.

Scale screen option on the new Chromecast AndroidTV?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 06:54 PM PDT

For those that have one in hands, it's possible to scale the size of the screen on this unit like FireTV one and Shield for old TV?

I'm waiting your return to decide if I buy one or not 🙂

    Thank you!

Casting local media in PC to xiaomi mi box S

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:07 PM PDT

Hi! So casting from google chrome does work. But when I play a video downloaded in my PC with the new ''Movies and TV" program for PC and I hit "cast" it only detects one smart TV on my home and not my mi box. Is my mi box missing an app? it's connected to the same network and all. Thanks in advance!

Fire TV Stick vs Google TV vs Mi Box

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 01:57 PM PDT

Which one of these should I get? I'm getting Fire TV Stick for around 30 dollars due to the prime day sale. New chromecast costs 50 dollars and the Mi Box also costs me around 50 dollars. What should I go for? I'm quite confused. Also can we cast to the fire tv stick? And can we install play store on it?

    Minecraft on ShieldTV

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 12:10 PM PDT

I purchased Minecraft on my son's tablet but now I am trying to install it on my ShieldTV with no luck. I extracted the APK from the tablet and tried installing it on the Shield. Everything goes smoothly until the end in which I get the error "App not installed".

What am I doing wrong? I see some people had success doing this, I wonder if something has been blocked since.
