Android Questions: Please ADD phone brand and model when you ask people for help

Please ADD phone brand and model when you ask people for help

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 06:02 AM PDT

It gets so tired when you see people putting in time and energy to ask for help and then never state their phone brand and model number. Maybe they used to having a iphone and think all phones are the same but with android the phone can be very different so please add it so that people can help you better.

What's the best bang for the buck camera phone?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 04:17 AM PDT

I'm thinking of Pixel 4A 5G since it has a larger screen. Does it play games well and is the display as good as amoled? Also, if I buy the phone from the US and travel to Asia, will the phone work there?

Why does s20 fE have low ratings on comparison sites?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 09:34 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

So I'm in the market for a phone and my current candidates are Poco F2 Pro, Mi 10T, and S20 FE (non 5G version.)

I've noticed that both version of the S20 FE are rated quite poorly on versus.com while Mi 10T was even ranked higher than Poco F2 Pro. Even the latter is quite surprising for me since I believe Poco F2 Pro has a better screen and a notchless screen.

Is S20 FE having some issues? What's reason behing its piss-poor ratings?

Do let me know If I'm on a wrong subreddit because I couldnt really tell where should I open this thread

FB chat heads keep popping up with messages I've already seen and responded to, other apps opening as well.

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 12:03 PM PDT

On multiple samsung devices, I went from an a20, to an a01, to now an a21. I constantly get chat heads popping up from hours old messages as as if it were just sent. Click on it and it goes to the last message in the conversation though. It eventually stopped on the a01 though I'm not sure if it was an update or not. I would think it's a facebook problem since it happened on more than one device but now I have stitcher opening to podcasts I've listened to in the previous 2 or so hours as well. Anybody else have similar issues or is it just samsung being samsung?

Is there any way to listen to two apps at the same time on an android device?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 11:53 AM PDT

I would love to listen to a fantasy book while listening to fantasy soundtracks on my morning walk. Is there an app or a setting or anything at all I can do to make that happen, short of carrying two phones with one earphone on each ear? I've looked off and on for years, but I've never been able to find anything.

File manager with the ability to share files on my phone as a local network (LAN) share?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 11:51 AM PDT

ES File Explorer used to have this feature. I could share a file on my phone and it'd show up on my PC as a network share. It was very convenient and straightforward. IINM it's also called SMB.

Is there any other file manager with such an ability?

P.S. I'm well aware of other methods like FTP, etc. but I'm specifically looking for this very feature.

Samsung Galaxy A6 - Suddenly wont connect to home wifi

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:40 AM PDT

Title says it all. One day it connects to my router at home just fine. Wake up the next morning and it will not connect to wifi. Data works fine but no wifi.

Funnily enough the wifi works on the bus.

It seems to be a fairly common problem but none of the videos/guides/forums I've read yet have had a fix that works! Or can even point out what causes the problem.

My internet at home is working fine. The phone just won't connect to it anymore.

    Problems using Gmail with iCloud

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 06:42 AM PDT

    Hi

I want to use the Gmail app on my Samsung phone (Note20 Ultra).

My main e-mail address is an iCloud one. I've successfully linked my iCloud address to the Gmail app so I can see all of my iCloud e-mails and folders in the Gmail app.

My issue is this: when I delete an iCloud e-mail or move it to a different folder and then close the Gmail app, the next time I open the app the e-mail will be back in my inbox.

I know Gmail does things differently in the sense that it applies labels to e-mails rather than sticking the e-mails in a folder and that technically all your e-mails are still in your inbox just with a different lable on, but is there any way I can just get an iCloud e-mail to delete / moved as desired?

    Hope someone can help!

    Thanks

App download / update speed is incredibly slow, but browser isn't

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:05 AM PDT

Hi everyone, my home router has an internet speed of about 40-300 Mbps depending, but regardless of what its network speed should be, apps always download at about 0.1 Mbps, regardless of which app is updating or download.

When doing a network speed test on a browser, this problem didn't appear. Can someone help?

Android 10 software update and now my phone isn't charging properly

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 09:52 AM PDT

I have a Samsung J4 which means it's practically last on all the update lists. I did a Android 10 software update and now my phone won't charge properly with the original charger.

    Things to note:

    • My phone is not damaged.
    • My charger is not damaged.
    • My charger port is not clogged.
    • Prior to the software update, I had fast charge on this phone and charging was never an issue.
    • The phone is not hot.

I've noticed tons of posts of people who have had this update in the last few months on different phones and all had the same problem of their phone taking 12-15 hours to charge or not charging at all.

    Things I have tried:

    • Changing settings on how many processes can run in the background.
    • Clearly cache partition.
    • Charging with phone off.
    • Restarting multiple times.

None of these things made a difference.

Any advice as I can't rollback the update (but sure wish I could!!!).

My phone's battery is 5000 mAh and the phone is only about 1.5 years old. But my battery barely lasts a day. I have followed all the basic tips (screen brightness at low level, not using too much data, keeping location off, etc) but I'm wondering if there are any advanced tricks to help save battery

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 06:06 AM PDT

I have also enabled developer options if that helps. Phone is Android 10. I have also downloaded accubatery.

    Heating Problem

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 09:45 AM PDT

I have the original ROG Phone and very recently, less than a week ago, the phone has been overheating when I've been doing simple tasks like searching on amazon, google, or scrolling Reddit or Instagram. When I go to my home screen, my one widget shows that my CPU is basically being maxed out on these simple tasks, and CPU temp was 62 C one time. It's also taking a toll on my battery life, and I don't want to charge when my phone is hot because I've heard that's bad for it.

The best part of this is that when I play CoD Mobile at the highest settings available to me, high, max FPS, It uses 30% of my CPU and 60% of my GPU, and never gets to 40 C.

No recent OS updates or upgrades, I don't see any apps using a lot of battery, so I don't think it's a rogue app. I think it has something to do with how on my phone's overclocked 845, the 4 big cores are overclocked to 2.96Ghz from 2.8Ghz, and all these apps are only using the big cores, but the little cores which are designed to do those tasks aren't doing much.

I don't want to upgrade this year if I don't have to. I'm still in high school and was helping my mom look for a phone for herself.

Apps not auto-updating in Google Play Store?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:45 AM PDT

Yes - all my apps are set to auto-update (box is checked). However for some reason they often do not auto-update and sometimes I have to manually update 30+ apps.

    What could be causing this?

How much does vibration impact battery on a WearOS smartwatch?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 05:13 AM PDT

Working on a project in which a user might get lots of notifications on their smartwatch so I was wondering how much battery can this drain. It is for a commercial use so the watch needs to last at least 8h (one shift).

Time and Date is constantly set wrong

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:50 AM PDT

    Pixel 4 XL on Verizon

I live near a timezone line, and my phone often switches between times (annoyingly). So, I turned off "Use network-provided time zone" and manually set my timezone so that it's always right. I've left "Use network-provided time" enabled.

The problem is that I sometimes notice my phone jumps back an hour to the wrong time anyway. I also noticed that the internet stops working when this happens. After poking around a bit, I've noticed that the date is also way wrong - February 28, 2001 - which explains why the internet is not working. It eventually fixes itself, but it's still very annoying and often takes a while to correct.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Apps cant read what is on the "downloads" folder

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:45 AM PDT

The only apps that can check what is on the downloads folder are the file manager ones. For instance lets say i download a picture from the browser, whatsapp wont show it until i move it to another folder which can get super annoying. Tried a factory reset, deleting it multiple times, hiding it and showing it and nothing. When renaming it the next download respawns the damn folder again, yet what was on the downloads folder can now be seen. The problem is the folder for some reason, if there is no way to fix it is there a way to automatically download to another folder? (That doesnt involve a super weird browser or download manager) Phone is rooted but problem was pre-root

Does connecting my Android device to a computer transfer files automatically?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:44 AM PDT

Hi, I'm not sure whether this is the right subreddit but I have a technical question about my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8, Android Version 9, Model No. SM-G950F)

Earlier today my phone was dying so I had to plug it into the computer at my workplace via the USB cable, not having an adapter for the wall socket. I'm told everyone does it and they just close the file transfer window that pops up on the PC. I did just that and left my phone to charge. However I worry now that perhaps the connection left hidden files or information about my phone on the work computer which the IT people may one day pick up, like a log or something. I'm not entirely sure what information could be picked up without me specifically authorizing a data transfer but I don't like the idea of personal files from my phone being left on the workplace PC.

If this is the wrong subreddit to ask this please direct me to the correct one. Any advice though is appreciated. Thank you.

    Phone not starting

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:37 AM PDT

So today my phone's display absolutely crashed with no reason, but that's another story. Because of that now I have to use a temporary phone which my grandma's operator gifted her for being a long year client. It's a Huawei Y5 2019 and basically has never been used. Now, I'm trying to use it, but when I charge it(with the charger provided in the box and also other chargers and cables) for some reason it only shows the red lightning symbol with a red circle around it. It flashes then disappears then it repeats. That continues for several hours. The phone can't be turned one. My previous phone is a samsung A9 and on it I can turn it on even with 1% person battery while it's charging. What's the problem and how can I fix it?

Is S-Health the best app for a Samsung Smart Watch?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:21 AM PDT

I feel like it represents the data it collects really shitty. Mostly sleep. The workout representation is fine I guess.

I guess my question is more: Are there any sleep apps that work with Samsung smart watch, that represent the data better than S-Health
