    Picture in Picture across apps?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:19 AM PDT

Does AndroidTV need more options to be able to split screen between apps? Right now it seems to be limited to FTA tv, and HDMI feeds. The ability to picture in picture NBA and Youtube for example would be awesome.

    Philips 75PUS8303, bloatware keeps reinstalling!?!?!

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 03:00 AM PDT

    Hi,

Yesterday I did a reset of the TV. After reset, the first thing I always do is removing and disabling unwanted apps. But for some reason every bloatware app I uninstall gets installed after 5 minutes or so. Never had this issue in the past. Am I overlooking something?

This is the Google App from the new Chromecast with Google TV.

This should fix broken search for those who installed LauncherX on their Android TVs.

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:33 AM PDT

Is it possible to change the input device from the remote's microphone to the built in microphone on my C270 webcam? It is plug and play with the video feed but I am not getting the correct microphone input.

Workarounds for enabling and using live channels as well as accessing the full Android tv play store

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:14 AM PDT

Live channels while not installed by default can be installed via the play store,

There are 2 options to use it as of right now from what I can find

-You can use button mapper to open the app from a unused button such as netflix

    Or

    -use a third party launcher

You can do the same for the play store and it will allow browsing just as on older versions of Android tv such as seeing apps you own, seeing a full screen wall of apps to download (instead of the single row shown in the new launcher), and better searching capability

Chromecast with google tv(2020) benchmark results

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 12:18 AM PDT

    GFXBench - T-REX(gpu) 823 frames(for comparison a firestick 4k gets 803 and the shield tv gets 6571 )

PCmark - work 2.0(cpu) 4199( for comparison a firestick 4k gets 3880 and the shield tv gets 7939)

Percentage differences With a baseline of a firestick 4k

    Gpu performance

    • Fire stick/100%

    -Chromecast with google tv/102.5 %

    -Shield tv/818.3%

    Cpu performance

    -firestick/100%

    -chromecast with google tv/108.2%

    -shield tv/204%

From this it seems to have both complete feature and performance parity to the firestick 4k obviously a conscious decision from google, as expected it is still significantly behind the top dog the shield tv through with thought I would share it

Pressing the home button twice on the new Chromecast doesn't bring up the recent apps menu. Is this feature gone?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:03 AM PDT

On my shield, I can press the Home button twice real fast and it brings up a recently used apps list. Is this really not a thing on the new Chromecast? I even tried to use the button mapper app to active it, but no luck. Am I missing something?

Working USB Hub for the New Chromecast Google TV

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT

So I bought a this hub/docking station awhile back for my Tivo 4k Stream TV and unfortunately it didn't work and since I bought it while it was on sale I kept it. Glad I did because it works perfectly with the new google tv at least for ethernet. Even the 3.5mm headphone jack works! All USB ports work.

Anyway, the only thing that I can't test are the microsd and sdcard because I don't have any functioning cards. I think it should work though.

    Just a few pictures

    https://imgur.com/a/Bmt7KG3

I have gigabit internet and looks like I'm only getting 300+mbps which is not bad really. I also tried using a Gigabit USB to Ethernet connected to the USB port (instead of using the hub ethernet) and I was getting same speeds

    https://imgur.com/a/EXDtONj

I think the dock/hub I bought was an older version and the same company released a new one. But this is a good sign!

EDIT: forgot to mention the Google TV experience itself, I'm not really sure. I have Nvidia Shield, MiBox S, Verizon Steam TV, Tivo 4k Stream -- I don't know if I like it yet. I feel like the home page of the new Google TV is clunky. It is displaying too much information. I can't find an option to clean or remove some information in the google TV homescreen. But then again that's just me. Device is blazing fast though!

EDIT2: I just found out under the Account Settings (not the general settings) that you can actually only show Apps mode. So those Recommendations will not show up in the home page and its not going to be super cluttered

EDIT3: So -- Apps mode looks nice and clean but the google playstore is not on the 1st page/home page! So you have to go to apps under setting scroll down for play store and open it from there. I wish I could use the google assistant microphone but in Apps Mode, it disables that too. So to use this device at it's full potential, you have to use it with all those clutter in the home page. If you are used to the old Android TV homepage (that you can customize) .. you might need some time to get used to this -- unless I'm missing something here.

EDIT4: Might want to mention that the dock/hub gets abnormally warm. Not sure because I used the power brick that came with the Google TV. It's warm that I would consider not plugging it 24/7. Ill do further testing with other USB power sources.

What great things can you do with the power of a Shield that you likely can't do with a GoogleTV?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:28 AM PDT

So I was waiting for GoogleTV reveal rather than jumping on getting an NVidia Shield... but this was when I mostly had game streaming in mind (Stadia / GeForceNow / XCloud).

But now that it's here, and I think of other things I perhaps COULD do with the device... maybe GoogleTV is not the way to go?

The mobile games that I would actually like to play are likely not available on AndroidTV store, unless perhaps they don't require much power and have controller support? (For Touch-only games, I would need to mirror I assume.)

What other types of handy applications are available when using BT mouse/keyboards? Can you do pretty much everything you want to do? Browsing / online banking / text editing / graphics editing?

Would this be a legit alternative to getting a chromebook perhaps? Connect it to a PC monitor with KB/M and you have a little work space...?

It would be sad if I pay for a GoogleTV and feel I gimped myself by not simply paying about double for a LOT more power/options...

    Thanks!

Edit: Double checked... so it's more like $70 CDN vs $200-300 CDN... I think I just answered my own questions... it might not matter. GoogleTV + Chromebook later may make much more sense...

    Samsung qled OS switch

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:01 PM PDT

I am not sure this is the right place to ask. I bought a Samsung TV a few months ago. I find the Tizen OS clunky, hard to navigate, apps hard to add. It seems logical I can replace it with android tv. What would be the simplest way? Google TV box? Brand? Is there a OS transfer like from a thumb drive? Or other options I haven't imagined. Been searching for days, with no satisfactory solutions. TIA! ( I love reddit!)

TiVo Stream apk on Nvidia Shield?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:44 PM PDT

Is it possible to install the TiVo Stream 4K apk on the Shield in a similar way as people are doing with the new Google TV apk?

I was able to install the Google TV apk following instructions on other posts, but I think I like the TiVo Stream app better, so I would like to try this out.

    Thanks for any input.

Google TV - Continue Watching Missing?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 12:29 PM PDT

Anyone else have the Continue Watching section completely missing on the new Google TV? I've tried starting something on Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max, but the row simply never shows up. Updates ran, restarted the system, etc. Am I missing something?

Chromecast Plays Ambient Mode Over Video

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 08:31 AM PDT

One of the annoying things I've noticed with the new Chromecast is when watching Twitch, every 15 minutes ambient Mode starts up. This is pretty annoying and I've never seen that on my Shield. It's annoying enough that I will be using my Shield TVs until it's fixed. AFAIK, you can't even configure the Ambient Mode start time either.

Anyone know why I'm only getting 1080 and no 5.1 when I plug the new Chromecast w/ Google TV into a 4K switch?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:28 PM PDT

I get 4K and Dolby Vision/Atmos when I plug straight into the TV, but I have everything else plugged into my switch and would like to have everything plugged into that instead of having one device hanging from the TV, and everything else in the switch. Any idea as to what's happening?

Google Tv working on shield but no live tab

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:08 AM PDT

Working pretty good on my shield 2019, with exception of no "live tab" I have YTV installed and even have some YTV channels show up in "top picks for you".

    Any fix for this?

Edit: on a side note here are is another issue, nothing shows up in continue watching (Netflix, Hulu or HBO with the exception of my purchased movies but they do not open :(

Is there a way to disable Dolby Vision on the new Chromecast w/ Google TV?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:52 AM PDT

My current OLED doesn't handle DV too well for some reason, so I just use HDR for everything. Looking to see if someone knows how to disable it. Thanks
