Android TV Android TV > Google TV

Android TV Android TV > Google TV

    Android TV > Google TV

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 08:11 PM PDT

Got the new Chromecast today and I have to say I much prefer the Android TV experience on my Nvidia Shield TV. The Google TV interface is slick and pretty though and I do really like the way they implemented the live panel with YouTube TV. I just don't like how my YouTube recommendations are buried now and I can't move them up to be more prominent on the For You page. If they just made the For You page more customizable like the home screen on Android TV I think I would be happy. Oh and it's borderline user-hostile now how hard they make it to uninstall an app.

Google TV: App-only mode is rather crippled (no personal photos in ambient mode etc.)

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 03:42 PM PDT

I have an axe to grind with Google TV. Got the device today. Coming from Roku and miss the simplicity of the home screen. Tried app-only mode and don't understand why it shows all apps in a single scrolling row -- what about filling any of the other real estate on my screen? Also, once app-only mode is enabled, one cannot use their personal Google Photos in ambient mode anymore. For an inexplicable reason, that option goes away when I enable app-only mode.

On the bright side, my Logitech Harmony Hub paired with it via BT without issues.

Google TV Ambient Mode Manual Shortcut?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 05:49 AM PDT

Is there a quick manual way to switching into Ambient Mode from the home screen? The only way I found is to go to the profile section (upper right) and from there clicking on the rectangle image next to the "Settings" gear.

I am looking for fewer clicks. Even an Ambient Mode shortcut in the apps row would do the trick. Or a voice activated approach, like "Hey Google, switch to ambient mode on Google TV".

Play Movies & TV App not updating to Google TV

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 07:45 PM PDT

Just had an update for my Play Movies & TV app, but it did not update to the new Google TV app. Anyone else still waiting for it? The Play Store shows it as Google TV (Previously Play Movies & TV), but app is still the old version.

Why am I being forced to Android TV?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 07:23 AM PDT

Had one didn't thing it was anything great. Google TV is the new brand, the new device, and completely seperate.

Not sure why someone created a sub reddit to completely lock it down and force us here.

Cannot get 4K 60Hz option for both GoogleTV and Tivo4K Stream

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 09:30 PM PDT

Both streaming devices are stuck at 4K 30Hz as the maximum resolution while my Nvidia Shield can go up to 4K 60Hz

    Any idea why?

Chromecast with Google TV with Harmony Smart Hub

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 01:20 PM PDT

I use a harmony smart hub to control my home theater and my Google Home for voice controls with it. However I want to pair the remote that came with my Google TV so that I can control the volume. I have tried it through the wizard that comes with the Google TV and also just simply adding the Chromecast to the Harmony Hub but that also does not work.

    Thoughts?

    Do I abandon my AndroidTV?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 12:49 AM PDT

I have a Sony Bravia X900E in the 55-inch. It's a beautiful display as I believe most Sony televisions are - but the software support leaves so much to be desired. It's on Android 8 right now I believe:

    1. How clear is it that Sony is abandoning us?

    2. Should I just be done with it and go GoogleTV Chromecast?

    3. What do I stand to lose? This is the biggest question I have.

It sounds like the new GoogleTV Chromecast is based on reported-metrics. They built it support the models and technology that 90% of everyone uses, and I just want to know I'm not in the 10% that are about to be left in the dust because I have some incompatible speaker system or whatever.

Edit: Flared Discussion because I don't really need help. This is an almost philosophical discussion.

KODAK Android TV - Slow video playback issue

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 11:45 PM PDT

I got Kodak Android TV 43CA2022 (4K, 1.75GB RAM, Quad core, Mali 450 GPU). I removed Android launcher and set HAL Launcher as default launcher.

I have media on 1, 2 TB Hard drives (Seagate, WD Passport) which connected with TV. When I open any video via VLC or Nova Video Player, it takes much time (15-20 secs or more) to start the playback. Same hard disk/video opens very fast on Mi Pro HD Android TV.

Any idea to improve the video playback start time? Any apps to clear memory?

    Thanks.

Why use Multiple Google Accounts on GoogleTV

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 11:48 AM PDT

Has anyone figured out yet what the purpose is of logging into multiple Google accounts on the new Chromecast w/Google TV? It wont let me change profiles as we found out on Day1, but I thought it would at least combine all the Watchlists from every account that is logged in (nope, it wont)

Is there a purpose to it at all? I don't see why anyone would even bother to log into the device with more than 1 account. What am I missing?

Is there any way to get a controller working on the new Chromecast/Google TV hardware?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 02:31 PM PDT

As per the title, I just got the new Chromecast/Google TV and I noticed I can install Android games from the Play Store on it. I found that I can't really play as the only button that works in-game is the confirm button. Does anyone know how I can get a controller to work on it? Is it possible at this time? I'd love to use my XBOX/Switch Pro controller.

    Thanks!
