Moto G7 Power locked to Tesco Mobile, asking for Pin Unlock code however Tesco Mobile claim it's unlocked and they don't have any codes

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 02:52 AM PDT

I want to flash LineageOS on my currently stock Moto G7 Power but it's Sim Locked and I do not know how to unlock it so that it stays unlocked when I flash a new ROM.

Where do I begin if Tesco have the IMEI down as unlocked?

Help me pick a phone! :)

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:20 AM PDT

I've been going in circles over choosing a good budget (or just $700 and below) phone. My priorities for what I value most is as follows:

1- battery/ screen on time. This is a must. I need the phone to last at least 8:00 hours of screen on time. I don't always have access to a charger as I'm traveling oversees and this is an absolute necessity for me. I wouldn't want to be carrying a dead phone all the time, I might as well buy a brick at that point and draw an apple on it with a sharpie.

2- screen quality and size. I'm a fan of 90hz/ 120hz screens! And it would be nice having a bigger phone as I usually use my phone to browse YouTube 90% of the time, and I'm also 6'4, so my hands are huge. That's one reason I can't buy the 4a, I try pressing one letter on the keyboard and end up pressing 4.

4- good user interface/ software. What's the point of having a phone if it's not practical?

5- the hotspot needs to be good! I do a lot of tethering to other devices and the last phone I moving (OnePlus 7 pro) had limitations when I was using the hotspot internationally for some reason. (Returned it)

6- I'm looking to spend around $500 dollars, but wouldn't mind shelling an extra couple hundred for something that's worth it! Honestly I'm just looking for value for my money and that it covers what I need!

7- Android! But not Samsung! I'm using a note 20 ultra so I don't want another Samsung. I just need an unlocked phone (financed my note) so I can buy a sim oversees and use it!

8- on amazon 0.0 I got a hefty gift card as a gift and I'm looking to use it to make my purchase to save some bucks!

I don't care much for camera quality, as I don't really take pictures on my phone much. I do take video a lot though! So while good video quality isn't a necessity it would be a nice bonus

I'm hoping y'all could help me choose a phone! I've been browsing the web and have summed it down to the following options:

    *Oneplus nord *Phone plus 8

    *Poco f2 pro *Poco x3

    *Google pixel 4a 5g

Any other suggestions i might have missed are welcomed.

Trying to run an apk on my apk

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:00 AM PDT

I have been trying to run an apk in another apk. Basically, the app is pulling from a server an application and then is trying to run it during runtime after it downloads it. However, whenever I try and download it I just keep getting this error.

    Unable to launch app: ApplicationName='/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.RTAN.UntitledApp/files/Media/tqrmgf156om2ges7co926scjlzgqjv7t/Demov8.apk', CommandLine='', CurrentDirectory='', Native error= Success .

I programmed this in Unity if that matters. Any help would be appreciated.

    Internet good but games lag

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:04 PM PDT

I really don't understand why or how but I have a huawei psmart (2020) a good internet connection 10-50 mbps but sometimes I can't even use Google or watch a yt video. Tried to install genshin impact, really nice looking game but impossible to download from the play store (your device doesn't support this game or something) I downloaded it with the apk file, it works I could get in game but the lag was impossible. I've tried multiple speed tests but all say 30-50 mbps. I'm reealy confused and I don't know what causes the lag.

I should also say that I live in a 2 storey house but I have an internet repeater. I don't know how to place it exactly but I put it near my room (there is a wall in-between) the signal is awful there 1-0 bars without connecting to the repeater, full bars but same connection connected to the repeater. What am I doing wrong?

    QR Scanning with Google Lens

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:17 AM PDT

Is anyone else having trouble with scanning QR codes using google lens. It keeps trying to search for images of qr codes or searching the text surrounding the qr code (if there is any) instead of scanning the code itself. I'm using an Xperia XZ2 if that helps.

Recover local files synced to Spotify on Android?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:11 AM PDT

Hey all! So I had a bunch of mp3s on my computer that I synced to Spotify on my Pixel 4a.

Well my hard drive crashed, so now the only copy of those files is on my phone. Anybody have an idea of how to recover those off of my phone? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you all!

Edit: Nevermind, they're accessible in user storage :) Pixel 4a\Internal shared storage\Android\data\com.spotify.music\files\spotifycache\Users{username}-user\LocalSync

    do i need android 10?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 07:51 AM PDT

i don't use much of the mobile, it's mostly for whatsapp, online banking, a little internet search (mostly text), occasionally i use discord, and i read a lot of books

the apps i use: f-stop gallery pro, "simple" apps, open camera, color note, Moon+ Reader Pro, A Better Camera Unlocked, cozy drive, aimp music player

i was about to buy the motorola E6 play, mostly because it has what i need, it comes with stock rom (no bloatware - so no need to root and unbloat) and it has a 5.5 display (i dislike the 6 inch + screens)

but there is a BUT, it comes with android 9 pie, and motorola already stated it will not receive an update to version 10 (none of the E6 series will get v. 10)

i intend to keep this mobile for about 4 to 5 years, and considering that android 5 is still good enough for light use and app compatibility, until android 9 becomes obsolete (when app can't istall on it anymore) that will be the time to replace the mobile anyways

so my question is, should i really be bothered not getting the android 10 update? or is it irrelevant?

i would like to hear opinions

    thanks a lot!

Android 11. Music apps stealing bluetooth focus

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:07 PM PDT

Hi. When I'm listening to a music on Spotify (or any other music app) through bluetooth headphone, after pausing music and then starting it again, instead of Spotify Aimp is turning on. Sometimes it's happening the other way around. Simply put: I'm pausing one app and when I'm trying to unpause it - different app starts playing. I tried to remove apps from memory, but without luck - previously killed app started playing music. If I start only one music app after phone restarts then everything is fine. I never had this problem on Android 10. This bug(?) occurs on Pixel 3a and Pixel 4a - both with Android 11. Is anyone else experiencing that?

    Wrong battery percentage indicator?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 09:20 AM PDT

So my phone(huawei p10, had it for almost 3 years) had 4% and I turned it off and left it to charge up. Immediately after, it showed that the battery is at 45% percent. How is that possible?

    Best phones under £480?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:53 PM PDT

I was looking at the Pixel 5 but it was quite a bit out of my price range. Which phone(s) are the best under £480? I've got a huawei p20 right now and it's extremely slow. Scored a 286 on the most recent geekbench 5 benchmark rest I did for single core and 1180 for multi. It's time to upgrade I think. I would like 5g but completely not necessary. I would like 90hz but again not necessary. I would like a good camera that can take low light shots and also I need to not be so slow that a 1997 Nokia could outpace it. Thanks! :)

Restarted my phone, now it won't recognize my pattern

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 06:43 AM PDT

Last night I restarted my phone, a galaxy s8, as it was being slow. After it was on again, I went to draw my pattern as usual, but I was met with the "incorrect pattern drawn" message.

I have tried to put in different variations of my pattern, with no success. I've restarted my device numerous times since then, and it still won't recognize the pattern.

After talking to a samsung representative, she told me that I would have to do a factory reset on the device, which would require me to have my phone powered off first. The thing is, the phone requires me to draw my pattern in order for it to power off. What are the steps I can take from here? Would taking it to a repair shop do me any good, or is the device now reduced to being a paper weight? Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Question about audio (or maybe Bluetooth) quality

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:27 PM PDT

I've been looking for information about audio output quality on Android phones in general, and my Oneplus 6T in particular, and I haven't been able to make much sense of what I've read. I'm hoping someone here can give me an EIL5 overview.

First, I'm NOT an audiophile or all that into music. But I have an iPhone XR in addition to my OPT6T, and I started noticing a difference in the audio quality when I'd play music and podcasts through Bluetooth in my car and my earbuds.

The main thing I noticed is that the OP6T sounds a bit louder and a bit . . . I don't know . . . richer? fuller? It's not night and day but it's noticeable. So I started hunting for info and quickly realized I was out of my depth.

I'm hoping to find out, in no particular order:

    1. What explains the difference between the two other than, say, different EQ settings on the two phones. Very generally, what parts of the phone or differences in Bluetooth account for one sounding better.

    2. How do I figure out what to look for in headphones or ear buds to get something that plays well with whatever phone I have at the time? I have a vague sense that codecs are involved, but I'm not sure what exactly these are and how you find out which headphones support what. The higher-end technical stuff is beyond me.

    3. Does fiddling with Bluetooth stuff in Developer Options really do anything noticeable? I played around but it still sounded the same. The EQ settings change the sound, but the DOs didn't seem to.

    4. Most of the posts and articles I read suggest iPhone is considered better at Bluetooth quality, so is it possible I'm just ear-dumb and not really hearing what I think I'm hearing?

Google took my music hostage, need a new music app

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:24 PM PDT

I use a Galaxy S8. Since play music has migrated to YouTube music, I can't listen to any songs I had on my phone as mp3 files. (Stuff I downloaded from iTunes when I had an iPod and moved to my android). Any recommendations for apps (preferably on the play store) that will let me listen to my music, create playlists, etc?

(also not sure if this is the right subreddit for this kind of question, sorry if it isn't!)

New Phone, My internal storage is missing and I cant install anything

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 08:36 AM PDT

I got a new vivo x50 pro plus with 512gb rom.

after installing the apps I had on my other phone, the internal storage does not show in settings/storage and i'm now out of memory. The 32gb SD card has about 22gb of data onboard.

I did not install 512gb of apps, more close to 32gb of apps.

My battery is draining super fast for a 5500mh battery even on the charger unless there is NOTHING running.

I just got Magisk Manager to root the phone and see if there is anything I can do from there, but would like any ideas you guys have.

Just got a fire 10 (2019) as a gift, what should I do to it before I update the oS?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 11:51 AM PDT

Feel free to suggest a more appropriate subreddit, I was under the assumption that the Amazon Fire subreddit was more for people who wanted to run the Fire OS.

I've owned Google phones since the Nexus 6P, and I like the lack of added software that I never use. Way back before then, my first experience with Android was a Nook tablet that I put CyanogenMod on to get a more stock Android experience, and just to mess around with an Android tablet when I thought that I was going to get into software programming.

I was recently given a new Amazon Fire 10, 2019 model. I don't have many plans for it, outside of a big Youtube watching screen and maybe some sim racing dashboard apps. I haven't connected it to wifi yet and haven't updated it, and I was wondering if there was anything I should do to it before I do so and miss out on some exploits that may not be present on the newer OS. Right now the plans are to run the Fire Toolbox to remove the Amazon apps, install the Play store, and try to unlock it as much as I can, but I know this is my chance to do more to it, if I knew what was available.

It seems like custom ROMs no longer as popular as they used to be? Should I just remove as much Amazon stuff as I can with the Toolbox, and call it good? Or is there something more fun that I should be doing to this while it's new out of the box?

Is Factory Reset Protection only enabled if your setup a google account with an android?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 10:19 PM PDT

To try to make a longer story short. I added openboard to my new morotola E6 phone and disabling gboard (which may not have been a good idea) and upon rebooting (which maybe totally unrelated to openboard and disabling of gboard) there is now no keyboard to input password to unlock encrypted phone. There is not any data worthwhile on it that is not already accessible through or on my laptop so I thought I would do a factory reset in recovery but I saw the frp warning about needing a google account. After trying to get my keyboard to work and doing some searching about frp it seems frp is only activated if I added a google account to the phone?? Which I have not. So that is my basic question if I have not added a google account to the phone and I factory reset is it likely or possible to still get the frp prompt for account details or would that only be activated if I had added a google account to the phone?

    Google Assistant issue

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 11:12 AM PDT

Hey guys, I bought a OnePlus 8T with OxygenOS 11 and Google Assistant refuses to work from lockscreen after the phone has been locked for a while. Gives the "your phone has no data connection so I can't help you at the moment." error although I'm always connected to WiFi. GA works fine after I unlock the phone again. Help appreciated.

Faster app updates on a 3 year old phone?!

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:33 AM PDT

So I got a UI update for YouTube where the captions and autoplay icons are shown at the top right. My Gmail icon also changed to a more modern rainbow style icon similar to the Google icon. I'm using a 3 year old Xiaomi Mi A1 (android one) running on Android 9. Yet a newer Samsung and moto phone I checked running on android 10 still didn't get this small change. I haven't signed up for any beta programs and all apps on all 3 phones are updated to the newest versions. Just curious, I wanna know if I confirmed to some setting I dont recall.

OnePlus 3T keeps randomly disconnecting and reconnecting to WiFi

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:05 AM PDT

Hi everyone. I have a OnePlus 3T (Android v9). All of a sudden yesterday, my phone started randomly disconnecting and reconnecting to WiFi, and it kept happening occasionally. In the time that I have taken to type this, it has already happened twice. There are also times when it doesn't happen for a long time. Do you know what is causing this, and how I can fix this?

Here are the things I've tried so far:

    1. I rebooted in safe mode, and I gave it a bit but it still kept disconnecting, so I dont know if one of my apps is the problem

    2. I reset network settings which deleted all my remembered networks (just in case there was some issue with it switching to another strong network nearby). That didn't fix anything

    3. I changed Network Rating Provider from Google to None

    4. I restarted my modem and router

    5. Smart Wi-fi switcher is off None of those steps worked. Can someone please help me?

Ads don't always load on youtube, the loading bar will go on spinning until I restart my android phone (note 8) or watch an Ad from a different video.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 09:16 AM PDT

As the title states I am having trouble with youtube on my samsung galaxy note 8 (unlocked) when certain Ads play. It will just loop infinitely with no prompt. Most of the time it's before the video starts but sometimes it will hang up on mid video ads too.

Has anyone else experienced this lately? This is on WiFi btw so my carrier shouldn't be relevant all things considered.

I don't have any system wide as blockers either. Nor have I ever attempted to root my device.

    Uninstalling an apk

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 02:54 AM PDT

Rather foolishly i recently installed an apk on my Pixel 4a. I thought it would install the Pixel 5 live wallpapers to add to the two the 4a already had. Trouble is that it has installed the Stepping Stones and Shadows live wallpapers but my original ones have gone. My Themes have also disappeared and the themes logo looks nothing like the original. If i click on it there is a 2-3 second pause and then the screen goes black. The only way out of the black screen is to press the power button a couple of times and I'm back at my home screen.

Question is, if I uninstall the apk(in the apps list) will i get my original live wallpapers and Themes back?

    I really shouldn't mess about...
