| How long would a midrange phone like the Pixel 4a last me? Posted: 17 Oct 2020 11:21 AM PDT I've been wanting to make the switch from IOS for a long time and am deciding between the iPhone SE and the 4a. I'm used to getting many years of use out of one phone but I have heard android phones tend to get updates for less time after release than iPhones and as such become insecure and slow after 2-3 years. I imagine the slowdowns would be exacerbated by the fact that the Pixel 4a is a budget phone. The SE is a higher initial cost but I am tempted to go with it if I will get significantly longer use out of it. How long would I realistically be able to use a midrange phone like the 4a before experiencing major slowdowns? Could I rely on being able to remedy these slowdowns in the future by installing a custom distro of android like lineage os? [link] [comments] |

The screen is broken and doesn't work. When I try to charge it the LED glows red so I guess charging the battery still works. I'm not sure if I can still turn it on. It is possible that USB Debugging is on and the phone is probably rooted. I'm not sure what android version the phone has. Is it possible to restore the data without unlocking the phone? | Posted: 17 Oct 2020 02:49 AM PDT To wit: I cleared the cache and the data from my play store to deal with it not downloading apps (specifically trying to deal with a bug with my Amazon Halo). After doing so, it was able to download that app... but now, in the "Installed" section of My Apps, it ONLY shows that app. All the other apps are still on my system, and all run fine. If I search for one (say, gmail), I can go to it's page in the store, and the button on there is "Open" (not install), and I am able to open it just fine. Checking on play.google.com also shows the smattering of apps I tested to all still be installed. My real concern is about updates; I know there were a few apps I was waiting until after work to update (trying to minimize strain on my poor wifi connection while using it to work remote), and they are not there anymore. | [Help] Vankyo Matrixpad S7 stuck on the Unlock Screen Posted: 17 Oct 2020 01:02 PM PDT So, last night, very late, I look at my tablet as see it's gotten to the 'do you want to do a Factory Reset' screen. I don't actually think anything of this, because I put my Tablet under my pillow when I'm sleeping (with music on low, helps me sleep) and I blundered my old tablet to that reset screen half a dozen times with my old tablet (A Huawei somethingsomething 8 Inch Tablet.) Plus, it was like 4am and I was half asleep, so I blithely ignored the "your data may be corrupted" message (assuming it was just something it said whenever you were on that screen) and pressed the 'Restart without Reset' button (or whatever it was.) Today, however, it seems my cavalier ways have caught up with me. My Tablet does turn on, and goes to the unlock screen fine. The Power and Volume Controls all do what they're supposed to do. Even the Push-with-a-SIM-Key-to-Reset button works. However, when I put in my unlock code (technically it's a swipey grid of 9 thing but, semantics,) the screen goes black for about 3-4 seconds, then returns me to the unlock screen. It does recognise the correct code (because if I put in the incorrect code it responds how android tablets usually respond.) Now, it's new and still in warranty. Is there anything I can do that'll be more productive than just getting a replacement or refund? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 Oct 2020 12:53 PM PDT My A10e android started to get a notification saying check charger when had it plugged in. I tried flipping the plug and it worked for a while but stopped, tried different cables, different outlets, still nothing. It came to the point where the phone was out of battery and wouldn't charge so I got a replacement. Within the first week the replacement started getting the same notification, it hasnt died yet and charges, but I still get the check charger notification when charging. | Can't figure out how to turn off background data consumption. Posted: 17 Oct 2020 11:36 AM PDT My mobile runs on Android 9. Whenever I'm connected to a wifi network there is a lot of background wifi consumption. Like my device consumed around 5GB in a few minutes without doing anything. So after a few tricks the background data consumption stopped after I disabled the Google app(the search bar) and turning on the battery saver. I tried reinstalling the google app, restarted my phone but nothing seems to work. Can someone help me fix this issue? [link] [comments] |

They have reported it to the police there, but it doesn't seem there is much they can do. If I report it as lost or stolen here in the UK (I still have the IMEI and all the details) will it get blocked in Belarus also? Are they signatories to the IMEI blacklist? Weird thing about this the number that said, "Hey," wasn't apart of the group and was a random number from TN. I asked my friends who's number it was and they couldn't see the "Hey" message, it was only on my end. I took a screenshot and sent it as proof so they didn't think I was crazy. To add on top of it there was no added person to the chat group so it was weird. About 40 min later in the chat I see an generic orange icon with the three blue dots (...) As if another person is typing. Its not my friends because they have avatar pics assigned to them. I'm not sure if I'm hacked or its a tower/phone provider situation but its not ok. Has anyone come across this recently. I'm with Sprint but its T-Mobile now. I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 running Android 10 and One UI 2.5 (Samsung). [link] [comments] |

I don't like the notifications because they ends in the niotification bar (in which you have always a lot of "trash" of other Apps) . Even with an alarm sound an shit like that, I still don't like t. And its a bit hard to explain but it doesn't actually turn off it just has a black screen for 3 seconds then turns back to normal then has a black screen again. Posted: 17 Oct 2020 03:00 AM PDT Hi, I have a phone with broken touchscreen (like many other people in here) and tried the usb otg route. bought a usb otg cable for cheap on amazon. I hvae a wireless mouse, so I plugged the usb adapter into the usb part of the usb otg cable and the other end into the smartphone, just like it should be. now, no mouse cursor showed up, clicking, dragging or anything wasnt registered at all. tried in on my current definitely working smartphone as well, no success there too. mouse is working fine as it is the one I use 24/7 on my notebook. so I see only 2 potential problems: the cable I bought is broken. (even though it should be new) Did anyone have issues like that as well? my current phone is huawei p8 lite 2017, bought in 2017. so it should be up to date that it allows the usb otg stuff by default, right? what else could be the issue, someojne got experience there? Posted: 17 Oct 2020 07:58 AM PDT As European, within the EU we can roam for free in all other EU countries, using our contractual data contingent. During my current trip to Austria I was very close to the Swiss border for a few hours during which my phone apparently switched between Austrian and Swiss networks. As a non-EU country, roaming in the Swiss network quickly accumulated costs of >20€ for me (even though data usage was miniscule). This has happened to me before and is very annoying. I also dont want to disable roaming altogether since I then lose my internet connection. Is there any way (settings or app, Android 11) to permanently disable/prohibit the usage of specific networks (in my case any Swiss) during roaming? Thanks for your help and stay healthy. | Phone Keeps Turning on to 'Android is Starting' Posted: 17 Oct 2020 07:51 AM PDT Last night I decided I would let my LG Power X2 die and charge it overnight. When I woke up the next morning my phone was charged but still off, so I turned it back on. About ten seconds after turning the screen on it started to show the white Android is Starting screen with a loading bar underneath it. When the phone turned on it was extremely slow, and I can normally handle a slow phone but this was just too slow. It would take forever for the screen to just turn on let alone actually unlock it. I checked the storage and it said only 75% of the phones capacity was used, which didn't make sense to me because just the night before it was almost full (97%). Then I restarted it and it seems to be working fine. Does anyone know what happened? [link] [comments] |
| Pixel 4 to external ssd issues Posted: 17 Oct 2020 07:43 AM PDT Trying to connect a new 1tb external ssd to my Pixel 4xl with a straight type C cable since they are both type C connections, but my files explorer won't read the data. The only solutions I can find in my online searches reference using Fat32 for the drive or OTG connector, but Fat32 is limited to 4gb, and you don't use OTG for type C to type C connections, so I'm confused.
