Posted: 09 Sep 2020 02:20 AM PDT Oneplus is probably an exception to this but my theory is that those brands that offer a lot for a very low price are probably using processors that are failed at quality testing from other well known brands like Samsung. This practice could probably be limited to the budget market and their flagships are probably 100% genuine. Of course this is just my theory, it could be because of all the ads they push too but what do you think? [link] [comments] |
Android 11 Third Party Camera Optimizations? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 09:52 AM PDT I downloaded the Android 11 release today on my Google Pixel 4 and I love it so far! However, when searching through release notes (https://www.android.com/android-11/), under "And There's So Much More.", I noticed this (https://imgur.com/gvckAxU) and got really excited because it's probably my number one complaint about android (what's the point of owning a Pixel 4 if I can't show off my pictures in third party apps like SC?) From opening Snapchat and trying it out, it seems like the camera quality of SC is still noticeably worse than my standard camera quality; in fact, I don't really notice a change from 10 to 11. My first assumption was that SC hadn't utilized these new camera optimizations, so I'd have to wait to see a difference. However, after looking through android 11's developer site (https://developer.android.com/about/versions/11/), I found absolutely nothing mentioning improvements to the camera. I also tried looking all around Google, but the only thing I was able to find was the third party camera restrictions (https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/08/20/android-11-camera-apps-chooser/) everyone is talking about, but no mentions of any kind of "optimizations". My question, then is what actually did improve or even change? Can we except snapchat and instagram to stop giving us lower quality images? Is the change so small that it isn't noticeable? EDIT: I didn't notice URL shortners weren't allowed so I fixed it [link] [comments] |
Bought a rooted phone. How do I make sure it's secure? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 11:11 AM PDT I just bought a used Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime phone yesterday, and when I got home I noticed something different and I think it's rooted. Whenever I restart the phone it loads something called Teamwin. There's only the standard apps in the phone, with the exception of something called Magisk, which I guess is used for rooting. My question is: How do I make sure this phone is secure and doesn't have any spyware on it? Also there's always this security notice in my notification bar "Unauthorized actions have been detected, restart your phone to undo these actions." Even after I restart my phone, the notification never goes away. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Sep 2020 08:53 AM PDT I am still able to write reviews for every other app that I've downloaded but there are two apps that I can't write reviews for. They are "cookie clicker" and "Curse of Aros". I have early access to Cookie Clicker and I'm considered a beta tester for Curse of Aros. Neither of them are letting me post reviews, the only thing I can do is leave developer feedback. When I downloaded them I was able to make reviews for them so it must have been a relatively recent change. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Sep 2020 08:41 AM PDT So i recently learned about something called root access and i have a few questions: What is root access? Can you give an app root access on unrooted device? How do you give root access to an app? Is it something similar to "System Administrators" option in settings? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Sep 2020 07:00 AM PDT I'm looking to make certain things on my phone not work properly anymore at my whim. I want it to outright refuse to connect to any new Bluetooth item, I want certain programs to stop working properly, and I want to be able to control this. Thru Google searches all I can find is answers to fix a phone, and I want the opposite, but to be able to control it, I don't want to destroy my phone, i just want to be able to not connect new Bluetooth devices, and maybe like make certain apps crash the moment I open them. It's this possible? [link] [comments] |
What can a rooted device do nowadays? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 02:44 AM PDT I've been using custom roms and rooted phones since my Nexus S, and then on and on for years. Lately though (3 to 4 years at least) I kinda stayed stock. So I was wondering, is it still worth to root a device? What new things can it do that a stock one can't? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Sep 2020 06:20 AM PDT I got a Pixel 4a and I'm having this weird issue (maybe because it's in an otterbox) where Spotify/YouTube start to play in my pocket 8-10 times a day, basically when I get a notification my pocket hits the play button. My last few phones were OnePlus which has the excellent "pocket mode" - no issues. My first choice would be to have the screen display notifications without them being actionable without it being unlocked. Failing that, how do I stop the screen from lighting up when I get notifications? [link] [comments] |
Anyone else experiencing lagging during media playback since upgrading to Android 11? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 07:50 AM PDT When my screen goes dark after idle, Spotify occasionally stutters and stops. It started this morning after upgrading to 11 last night. Also noticed youtube videos stuttering and the video quality dropping to total potato. Anyone else? [link] [comments] |
Uninstalling an APP that wasnt installed through Google Store Posted: 09 Sep 2020 09:57 AM PDT , Not sure I can ask for help in this subreddit but a friend of mine installed an APP, to connect his Android phone to his car, from a website, which he says is something of an apk mirror website, and has now tried to uninstall it but with no success. I dont know many details but he installed this APP through the website since the app is not on Google Store where we are from, he then tried to uninstall it but all he can do is force shut down the app. He then reset his phone and all the apps but this one were uninstalled. I told him to look for the apk file on his phone files but he says there are no files. Can someone help me helping my friend? Thanks [link] [comments] |
I updated to android eleven last night and almost all of my music has been deleted! What can I do? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 09:02 AM PDT I just updated to android 11 last night and tried to play some music today and everything that I didn't specifically buy in the play store has been deleted from my device. I'm using the Google play music app on my Pixel 2 128gb model. I had hundreds of songs from CDs around the house that will take weeks to gather back together. Does anyone know if there is a way to get them back? Edit: I just opened the files app and found that the music is all still on the device, but it still isn't showing in the Google Play Music app. Perhaps there is a way to get them to show up? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 12:03 PM PDT So I asked someone for help regarding something and they told me to format data in TWRP. So I did that and that pretty much deleted the entire internal storage. All folders, everything just gone. I had copied over the TWRP backup files to my laptop but that's about it. Not there are no folders at all (except TWRP) in my device's internal storage. Is my phone gone? Or is there a way it can still boot into a custom ROM. It still boots up fine in recovery mode but whenever I try to actually boot into Android, it just automatically boots into recovery mode and says "startup failed". Please help me guys. It is a XT1765 Moto E4. [link] [comments] |

Does blackberry work app run on android 11? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 11:36 AM PDT |
Posted: 09 Sep 2020 11:35 AM PDT I just updated to Android 11 for my pixel 4a and I just noticed that none of my apps can see any pictures on my device since I've updated it. Even the camera app itself. It will take pictures but won't open any thing if I click on the camera roll. Not really sure what to do. I checked all the permissions and the apps all can read/write media and the camera has permission to read/write over all files. The camera can still take pictures and if I click through the google files app I can see they're being save and I can access the pictures through that app but nothing else. I've tried clearing the caches and reverting the apps but so far no success. Anyone else having this issue? [link] [comments] |
How do I fix "Cannot take screenshot due to limited storage bug" on Android 10? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 11:16 AM PDT My Moto E(2020) currently has about 20GB of free space on SD card, and 10GB free space in internal storage. However when I try and take a screenshot I get the aforementioned error message. The only thing I've tried was clearing the cache, which is about all I can think of. Edit: went into my files and all the folder names and file names were scrambled, I'd take a picture but... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Sep 2020 10:45 AM PDT So i am starting to get like 2+ spam text messages a day. They are all from email accounts though. I have a Motorola Stylus and it does not seem to give me the option to block SMS messages from websites and i use a 3rd party carrier which does not have the option to block SMS from Emails. Can anyone recommend a good app that will let me block SMS texts from unknown emails? [link] [comments] |
Cannot connect to CCTV over mobile data Posted: 09 Sep 2020 02:41 AM PDT So we have a Swann DVR CCTV system using the Swann Always Safe app. I haven't been able to view the cameras remotely for months, though it worked before. I'm on a Pixel 3a and before that a Nokia, which also didn't work. My kids have Nokia's which also can't view remotely. However, my wife has a Galaxy S9+ which DOES work. I assumed at the time it was an android 10 issue but it continued to work on the wife's phone even after it got 10. Any ideas? Swann customer support have been useless. [link] [comments] |
Android 11 bubbles not functioning? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 02:33 PM PDT I have a Google Pixel 3 XL unlocked (on Verizon). I just upgraded to Android 11. I have the Bubbles feature enabled for my messages app, but I don't see the little button in my notifications to open them in a bubble. I also don't know of any other way to open conversations in a Bubble. I had my friend text me and then went into the notification settings for messages and set his conversation to always open in a bubble, yet I still don't have any bubbles popping up, nor do I have a way to open them. Is anyone else having this issue? [link] [comments] |
An overview of the world of SOC Posted: 09 Sep 2020 06:51 AM PDT My technical knowledge is poor and as I am trying to understand about SOC, I just getting more confused. Considering that Android is a common thread in all these, I figured this is the best place for this question. The problem is everyone is getting into the details of a small part (SOC, Snapdragon vs the rest like Exynos, comparison of various snapdragon models, Arm, TSMC, RISC-V). I am interested in understanding the overview of the whole thing - which chip is right for my mobile & what are the roadblocks in innovation/improvement. Based couple of videos (1, 2, 3) I watched & lots of articles, snapdragon's superiority is understood. Considering Samsung's huge resources and how long they have been working on Exynos. But Exynos is way behind Snapdragon's 4G chips. Why did Exynos get to the same level as Snapdragon - any vital patent that Qualcomm is blocking? What is special about TSMC that there is no alternative? Also, is it fair to compare Apple chips vs Snapdragon? I know my question is rather broad. I am not expecting an answer, as I doubt these have a straight forward answer. I am hoping to understand your views & understanding. Also, it would be great if anyone could please help breakdown my question or direct me to a more appropriate subreddit to post it at. [link] [comments] |
