| Samsung has started to try and force ads and install apps I don't want. Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:40 AM PDT Today after the latest firmware update on my Samsung M21, a screen popped up (which you can't leave) which automatically opted me in for ads on my lock screen, ads about apps I "might" be interested in with no option to reject it. I had to go under further details to find options to uncheck those, and then the "skip" option showed up. Utterly disgraceful. If that is not enough, it tried to force me to install few shitty apps like "rummy something" and crappy music apps. After I unchecked all of those, it STILL proceeded to install a low quality solitaire app and Snapchat!! There has to be a way to stop this nonsense. This did not happen on my S8. I can see my parents not being able to figure out how to reject these and accept the ads. Total asshole design. [link] [comments] | ||

| [Rant] Subsidizing hardware by providing ad-supported software should be optional and not mandatory Posted: 04 Aug 2020 09:04 AM PDT Xiaomi introduced a revolutionary concept by showing ads in their operating system in exchange for affordable hardware, thanks to this strategy they gained massive market share in a price sensitive market like India and other companies started copying them. Thanks to them, even Samsung is now adding ads to their budget offerings because if they don't, people will call their devices overpriced and won't buy them (Oneplus Nord is considered overpriced here in India because Xiaomi and Realme are already providing SD855 devices at the similar price) This is especially bad because people who are buying phones online often just go by the specs and better the specs better the value for them, the fact that the software is full of ads is hidden somewhere in fine print or not stated at all. Companies should provide an option to pay a premium for an ad free experience. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 04 Aug 2020 05:19 AM PDT Hi everyone. I decided I'd make a thread about it, since I already published this in comments in another thread which I'll also mention bellow, but this way more people can see. I'll be putting here all the Ivona TTS voices that have been ported unofficially from PC to Android. NOTICE: If for some reason Amazon still cares about this or whoever has (had?) its rights, then just tell me and I'll delete this as I want no problems at all with anyone. I guess it's not bad at all since they're no longer sold anyways - and these never were for Android really. So all the voices will be in the following link, along with instructions (I won't write that testament here... hahaha): https://www.mediafire.com/folder/1hprxlymfudhl - that's a folder in my MediaFire account. For the official Android voices that are no longer sold, please go to this thread which has them: https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/dnspl3/tts_ivona_tts_engine_collection_all_voices/ - these should work on all phones, I guess, since they're official and have an app of their own, unlike the unofficial ones which have an app with a problem on newer Android versions, it seems (see bellow) - UPDATE: There's a specific version for to fix this issue, but that may cause another one. Please read the "Everything about this", which explains it. Note: As I said, the instructions (the file "Everything about this") is ENORMOUS. It has everything I thought it could be useful for me and anyone else. If there's anything missing, just tell me and I'll add to there. List of the unofficial voice ports by language: - Deutsh (Deutschland): Hans; Marlene - English (Australia): Nicole - English (Great Britain): Amy; Brian - English (India): Raveena - English (USA): Joey; Nina; Salli - French (France): Celine; Mathieu - Italian (Italy): Carla; Giorgio - Polish (Poland): Ewa - Portuguese (Brazillian): Ricardo; Vitória - Portuguese (Portugal): Cristiano - Russian (Russia): Maxim; Tatyana - Spanish (Spain): Conchita; Enrique - Spanish (USA): Penelope - Swedish (Sweden): Astrid Hope this helps some people! Cheers! [link] [comments] |
