I have expandable storage in it that I've been offloading my video files to. I just tried to transfer them again today, understanding that there were problems with the device software wise. I guess I took a risk... I regret it now. Initially I was trying to transfer all my photos/videos over. I kept attempting to do this, and for some inexplicable reason, the memory controller on Android kept crashing. So I deselected the photos, and just tried to do the videos instead. It moved approximately 4 "items" (have no idea what those items were, probably folders in retrospect). Immediately after this I tried accessing the videos again to ensure that they transferred correctly. Nope.... All of them have completely disappeared from the main gallery. The last year entirely. I tried checking DCIM on both the internal and external storage devices. They don't exist anymore. I'm kind of fucking livid right now tbh. There was countless invaluable footage stored there... I was thinking about getting a new phone. This may seal the deal. Some of the other weird behavior I observed over the last few months... Using the normal Google files explorer apps there were countless corrupted files in the "downloads" section. They couldn't be deleted. Some of the folders were oddly replicated. I attempted to use an alternative file explorer app and everything was listed completely fine... Weird, right? idk what to do... I guess I should be grateful tbh. | Samsung Galaxy S9 app / battery isses Posted: 08 Aug 2020 08:48 AM PDT My phone has been acting strange. At first it was discharging extremely fast after 20% and then sometimes dying before it even hit 0%. Last night I put it on the charger at 7:30PM and at 9:00PM it didn't charge at all, despite showing the charge notification. And then this morning some of my apps just straight up disappeared despite still being shown in my app settings. Apps included: Minecraft, Frag PRO Shooter, Space Marshalls 2, and a couple more. They're not on my hidden apps so I'm not sure. The latter issue could just be One UI (because One UI ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) but I'm not sure about my battery. I downloaded AccuBattery and my battery seems to be somewhat healthy despite a 700 mAh estimate decrease in battery. | Transferring pictures to a cloud (CUBOT R9) Posted: 08 Aug 2020 12:09 PM PDT Hello guys. So I just got a new phone because the old one (The cubot in question) got banged up pretty hard. The charging port is busted and it's cracked all over. Luckily, my cousin has the same model, so he offered to help switching batteries and filling my old phone while I transfer my stuff from it. I always transfer my photos to my computer via USB, or just put them on my SD. However, when the cubot asked me if I want SD to be my primary storage, it clearly didn't account for Whatsapp images (of which there are about 3000). Now, I logged out too early to back up my stuff, and lost all of it on the Whatsapp cloud, however I still have them in my gallery without the means of getting them out bar a cloud. So what do you suggest? Any good android cloud I could put them on? I tried Google Drive already, but the phone is janky and it only transfers 1000 images at a time. Any suggestions? Over the past few days the phone has started taking nearly all day to charge, and loses the charge more rapidly. It has no water/heat/drop damage. I rebooted in safe mode and tried, same result. But the way android is managing display name is different from the way Nextcloud (and every other software I use) is doing it. For example here is a contact I just created : https://pic.infini.fr/wr9mbS7G/bazv1Xkc.png And here is his VCard In Nextcloud everything is clear, my contact has a first and a last name, but his display name is different because I never call him by his full first name. But with Google contacts things are not like that and the app display the full name "Alexandre Smith". Even worse, the app doesn't seem to be aware of the existence of this entry (except when searching). I tried a lot of third party Apps, and I managed to find only one able to be aware of this field, this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.psencik.com.android.contacts&hl=en. But the entry only display when I am editing the contact wich is not what I want. So my question is, can I find a way to have a display name different from the full name on android ? And without workaround (like using phonetic name). And that will work with other apps, like whatsapp or nextcloud. If I have to root or to install a custom rom to get this feature I might do it. | Uninstalled a factory app accidentally... Posted: 08 Aug 2020 07:56 AM PDT Hello all, So I have a galaxy s8 on T-Mobile. Yesterday I was going through some apps to make room. There was one app I wasn't sure of it's use, so I uninstalled it. I don't remember it's name, but I remember it had a green check mark as it's app icon. Ever since then, every 5 minutes I get a notification popup saying "please insert factory UICC device and restart". There is also a notification in my taskbar from "OMADM" saying "The profile update could not be completed". If I click on that notification, the OMADM green check mark looked the same as the green on I accidentally uninstalled. So obviously I think I uninstalled a piece of OMADM. I tried factory resetting and the issue still persists. My phone still works fine besides that. How can I either install what I removed accidentally or block the notification temporarily (I can't disable the OMADM notification) I appreciate any help [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Aug 2020 11:17 AM PDT My Redmi Note 8t is running Android 9 with the latest available stable update but there is one app that store never offers an update even though if I manually search it, I'll see it. It's Grindr. Grindr support says there's nothing wrong with their configuration on the Store and the updates are offered successfully. I've removed my Google account from the device (and added it again) but the Store still won't automatically offer the update on the updates list. The problem is I don't remember the unlock pattern and because I just turned it on I can't use the fingerprint scan. In my Google account it says the last time the phone was synchronized was in March (when I last used it) but the phone automatically connected to my house's wifi and doesn't sync. Any suggestions on how to unlock? (I know I could just go to the boot and delete everything but I was trying to not go there) Sorry for bad English. | Removing Upday from my Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Posted: 08 Aug 2020 10:50 AM PDT I've recently been given a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (WiFi). I like the tablet but have changed my launcher from whatever Samsung shipped it with to Nova. I checked my battery usage after a couple of days and noticed that an app called Upday seems to use 5% of my battery between charges. I looked it up and apparently it's a news feed that's part of the launcher Samsung make and I don't use. Is there a way to remove it from my tablet and, if so, is it safe to do so? If it is, does anybody know what other bits of bloat are also safe to remove? For example, I don't need phone or texting apps on a tablet that isn't connected to a mobile network and I don't need a "Tips" app to tell me how to use my tablet. It looks like Samsung have made their own version of every Google app and they're all worse and I'm not going to use them (I don't know why I have a galaxy store). Can I buy an unlocked Android phone, maybe one like the Google Pixel 4a, and just connect it to my Wi-Fi network to view my websites or do I still need to purchase a SIM and a data plan from a carrier like Verizon or T-Mobile in order to use the browser?
