The Google Pixel 4a battery life review: Two weeks testing Google's new phone

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 11:18 AM PDT

LG Velvet is very underappreciated. It's actually one of the best midrangers right now with a sweet $599 price tag!

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 07:53 PM PDT

LG Velvet 5G is priced $599 and it offers all of this:

    6.8" P-OLED 1080p display

    Snapdragon 765G

    128GB storage, 6GB RAM

    MicroSD card slot

    Stereo speakers

    3.5mm headphone jack

    4300 mAh battery

    25W fast charging

    9W wireless charging

    Glass back and aluminum frame

    IP68 water and dust resistance

LG didn't cut any corners on this phone. I ain't an LG shill, I own a Samsung but they deserve some appreciation on this.

The reviews on this phone seem negative, the headlines are even negative. Just do a quick Google search on the reviews and you can see what I'm talking about. I bet if OnePlus or Pixel offered a deal similar to this, reviewers will hype it. It's unfair.

Edit. Wait, $599 isn't midrange? Literally every reviewer now calls this price point midrange. Perhaps at most upper/premium midrange. This sub is strange...

It's interesting that next year's flagships will have larger frequency bands for GPS, Wifi and 5G

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:57 AM PDT

    • Wifi - Qualcomm FastConnect adds support for Wifi 6E (an additional 1200MHz, spectrum will be nearly tripled to what was available with 2.4 & 5Ghz)

    https://www.xda-developers.com/qualcomm-fastconnect-6900-fastconnect-6700-wifi-6e-bluetooth-5-2-high-end-android-devices/

    • GNSS - Broadcom BCM4776 adds support for Beidou-3 (60% more satellites than just GPS+Galileo)

    https://www.broadcom.com/blog/broadcom-introduces-second-generation-dual-frequency-gnss

    • 5G - Qualcomm X60 - we already had X55 with millimeter-wave and sub-6 GHz support this year, but X60 will be the first to actually aggregate those frequencies and make use of all that extra bandwidth. Not to mention it will be integrated unlike the "inefficient" X55 chip .

    Why Android?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 09:43 AM PDT

I cannot stand the walled garden universe that is IOS. Was wondering what others main reasons were for everyone who chooses Android as their phones platform?

    My deal makers are:

PowerAmp and Blue Coins are not available on Iphones.

A much higher degree of customization is possible.

Internal storage upgrade is still possible on selected devices

Sunday Rant/Rage (Aug 09 2020) - Your weekly complaint thread!

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 04:12 AM PDT

Note 1. Join our IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions.

This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:

    • Your device.

    • Your carrier.

    • Your device's manufacturer.

    • An app

    • Any other company

    Rules

    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.
