Google is a/b testing the removal of the weather app

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:18 PM PDT

Google is currently testing on the beta version of the Google app the removal of the weather app that includes the frog. The Pixel widget and weather homescreen shortcut both lead to the Google app with "weather" in the search bar.

This is such a significant downgrade from the frog weather app it makes me think Google is working on a new weather app because of Apple's decision to purchase darksky.

You can still access the app by opening assistant and asking it for the weather and tapping the weather card that pops up. Please Google don't remove the weather app in a ploy to get people to use the assistant.

If Google is creating a new weather app what features would you like to see in it?

If Samsung announces the plastic 60hz Note 20 at $999 tomorrow, what are they even doing?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 02:43 PM PDT

Let's start with the competition: Apple made a mistake launching the iPhone X series as XR for the budget edition and iPhone X as the flagship, because it made it seem, rightly so, that they were raising smartphone prices. They fixed that in the next generation by launching the successor to the iPhone XR as simply "iPhone 11", and the flagship became the iPhone 11 Pro.

When rumors started to come out about Samsung using a plastic back and a 60hz screen for their upcoming Note 20, I was sure they were rightly matching Apple's strategy and would launch the base model at $699 to compete with directly with Apple's lineup. And the Note 20 Ultra would be the actual $999 successor to the Note 10. However, most recent rumors seem to confirm that the base, plastic 60hz Note 20 will be $999, while the actual successor to the Note 10 will be the $1299 Note 20 Ultra.

What then is Samsung's strategy? Is the market for $1299 smartphones actually feasible now? Will we be getting $999 mid-rangers in the coming years? It seems so strange. There's still a chance that the rumors are wrong and Samsung announces tomorrow the Note 20 for $699 and the Note 20 Ultra for $999, but it seems extremely unlikely. What are your thoughts on this? If the processor and camera are flagship quality, do you care about a plastic back and a 60hz screen? Because I have a Note 10 right now and it seems Samsung is giving me no reason to upgrade, because a $1299 phone is simply out of the question. Which, to be honest, is a good thing for me and my wallet :)

    So what are your thoughts?

    EDIT: I mean on Wednesday.
