| World phone support on Android Posted: 10 Aug 2020 01:50 PM PDT Android OEMs charge iPhone prices for their flagship phones but there are a some things that Apple does right that OEMs don't care about. There has been tons of discussions on the update situation so I'm gonna talk about something different. I've only had Samsung phones, so this is from a Samsung perspective. Apple phones are truly world phones, they support all bands and carriers and can be used in any part of the world. On Android, the band support is a mess, there's arbitrary bands and features like VoLTE and aggregation missing between different regions even on flagship phones. If you go to a different country and try to use your phone there, there's a good chance it won't work fully. This situation is unacceptable. Samsung and other OEMs should start providing support for all bands and features for their expensive phones [link] [comments] | ||

| Xiaomi shady "Xoom_for_third" folder keeps logs? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 01:55 AM PDT Hey everyone! I have a Redmi 6A (old and cheap) and every couple of weeks I plug it into my computer to pass some data from the phone to my PC. So yesterday I did this because I needed to transfer some images and I found a folder I have never seen in my internal storage. Anyways, so I open it and I see it has been keeping logs every couple of days. At that moment I became paranoid and started thinking that maybe it was spying. I tried removing it, unsuccesful. So I searched it up on google. Only found two results: a reddit thread with a couple of worried people and a xiaomi forum that did not clear any questions. In the mentioned Reddit post some people could not erase it/it kept coming back, and the creator of the post found that now the music app had a section to "revoke authorization", and whenever you turned that on you could delete the folder. Which is extremely shady, as I was not informed that this configuration was added and now in settings there are a ton of Xiaomi apps that can have Authorization revoked. I don't want to accuse a company of spying without being 100% sure, but this is pretty suspicious. Please check if you have this folder on your Xiaomi device. I would appreaciate if you commented if you have the folder, which device you have and if it keeps coming back or you can't remove it. Maybe we can solve this together! It did mess me up yesterday as I was quite worried for my privacy (since I had an error message whenever I tried to revoke authorization to any app, solved by DELETING MY MI ACCOUNT ik shady). I hope I don't come across as over-analyzing everything that's just how I am Thank you and sorry if there are any mistakes ( I'm spanish :) EDIT: I googled it and Joox is a music app (owned by Tencent). I have NEVER downloaded this app nor any other music app by Tencent. :/ [link] [comments] |
