Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I was able to get weather to display on ambient mode Posted: 12 Jul 2020 04:27 PM PDT One thing I liked about the Chromecast was that it displays weather on the screensaver/ambient mode but my Android TV devices didn't. Today I found out that you can enable the weather on Android TV. When the screen saver is active, go into your Google Home app and find the TV in your list of devices. Tap on it and you should see something at the bottom that says "Personalize ambient mode." Tap on that and it will bring up a new menu with a temperature option. Mine was already enabled despite not showing anything, so I tapped Hide and then re-enabled it and a few seconds later the weather started showing on my TV. This may be well known but hopefully it helps someone out! Edit: Just to clarify as it doesn't seem to work for everyone, this worked for me on two different Sony Bravia TVs. [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Jul 2020 12:54 AM PDT I got a prompt earlier today that there was a system update for my Hisense 50RG (Android TV released in the Australia market in 2018/2019). I was in the middle of something so I told it to remind me later. It's later now and I can't see to get the option to update again? If I go into the "About/Check for updates" menu it says there is no updates, and it's still on Android 8 and security patch Feb/2019. Any ideas how to get the dang thing to update? Cheers! Posted: 12 Jul 2020 08:40 PM PDT Hi guys. I'm about to buy a Xiaomi Mi Box S and I was wondering if it has HDMI-CEC? Also, can I use my google home mini in the same room to turn on and off the TV? [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Jul 2020 11:25 PM PDT I have a TV launcher setup that works great but every time I reset the box it goes back to the stock launcher. Is there anyway I can have it to where it doesn't do that on reset? [link] [comments]
Opinion wanted from Philips TV owners Posted: 12 Jul 2020 10:43 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking for opinions from any existing Philips Android TV owners about:
I'm thinking of buying the new 50PUS8555/12. There aren't any reviews of this particular TV yet, as it only went on sale a few days ago, but it should be roughly equivalent to the 2019 800 and 900 series (I assume!). I currently have an nVidia Shield TV (2017) plugged in to a 2014 Sony KDL-50W829B TV. So I want something that will give me a similar Android TV experience, but with upgraded picture quality and less cables! Ideally I would have liked to get hold of a Philips 50PUS8804, as that could have replaced my current speaker system too (because it has a built-in B+W sound-bar). But alas, that model is discontinued and nowhere seems to have any stock. So any opinions/advice welcome. Are Philips worth spending my hard earned coin on, or would I be better off saving my money? I have also considered Sony TVs but am put off by the 49" size and the big ugly stands that they have! The space I have for the TV almost perfectly fits 50" (it couldn't go any larger) and it is quite a high bench, so I'd like to avoid a tall stand where possible. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2020 09:52 AM PDT Does anyone have any tricks for getting your Android TV to show up as an option for a Google Home Speaker Group? I had downloaded the Chromecast built-in beta app and had it all working, but then I accidentally deleted it from the speaker group while creating a new household and now I can't get my TV to pop up as an option again. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Nvidia Shield vs Firestick 4k What’s the $100 difference? Posted: 12 Jul 2020 11:35 AM PDT I currently use a Firestick 4k. I mainly side load third party apps for streaming, no gaming. Amazon keeps installing apps on it that take up a lot of valuable space and cannot be uninstalled. Examples are Freetime and now IMDB. I will never use these apps and the space they take up affects the efficiency of my streams. That said, looking at the Nvidia Shield I don't see much difference in them. I use the mute button a lot and the Shield doesn't have one. They both have 8 gB of storage and 2 gB of RAM which in my opinion are the two biggest selling points of a streaming device. What's so great about the Shield other than the fact that Amazon can't randomly install stuff on it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2020 07:15 PM PDT Just bought a Xiaomi Mi TV Stick, works great easy to setup. Is there a way to get a full list of all the available downloadable apps in the googleplay store. What's the reason for this restriction? it seems to be rather limited with what you can download. Have tried downloader and Aptoide many of the apps say can't be downloaded if using this method. Also is it possible to hardwire this device, i have tried using the hardwire adaptor from my firestick but doesn't work with the Mi TV stick. [link] [comments] |
