Dave Burke, VP of Android, talks about Red Velvet Cake, background kills, and hints at a few secrets coming to Android 11 at launch.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 01:50 PM PDT

Hey all. I and my cohosts on All About Android had an awesome chat with Android's VP of Engineering Dave Burke last night. There's definitely some good nuggets in there about Android 11 with Dave talking very candidly at times.

One thing that has me excited... I assumed that with the public beta, we already know everything there is to know about it ahead of launch, but he assured us that Google has a few feature surprises that they will unveil in the coming weeks. Yes, Nearby is likely one of them, and we already know about that one, but there's a few more in the wings that we aren't aware of yet.

Any guesses what those might be? Any wishlist items?

ASUS ROG Phone 3 prices announced

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:35 AM PDT

    16GB / 512GB = € 1.099

    12GB / 512GB = € 999

    Strix Edition 8GB / 256GB = € 799

If I understood correctly, the first two have the SD865+ while Strix Edition have the SD865.

AMA about the ASUS ROG Phone 3!

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 12:09 PM PDT

    Hi Reddit,

As you may have seen in /new, ASUS announced the ROG Phone 3 today. As usual, the phone packs in almost everything imaginable. There are tons of new gaming and software features on top of the already crazy amount of features present in last year's ROG Phone II.

Since I've used the device for nearly a month, I thought some of you may be interested in asking me questions about it. I wrote up a review on XDA that covers nearly every major aspect of the device, but if you have any specific questions you want answered, then fire away!

Does anyone think Google Photos has gone downhill since the last major update?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 03:30 AM PDT

Honestly, I really think this new update (I realise it was a few weeks back) is appalling, and I'm interested to hear what others think now that there's been time to use it for a while.

    My main issues are:

    • For You has been intentionally removed to being a desktop site only feature.
    • The way historical photos are shown is now a forced slideshow instead of just letting you open a pic and look at it for as long as you want.
    • If you want to create something, it's all hidden away under Library> Utilities.
    • If you want to create a movie you now only have the option to do so in portrait mode, even if the original video is in landscape.
    • I don't like the new logo (not the biggest issue, to be fair) :-)

This was Google's very best app IMO and they have made a pig's ear of it. I honestly can't understand them sometimes.

    What do we think folks?
