why do I have 2 copies of every photo I take?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:03 AM PDT

I have a galaxy note 10 and every time I take a photo I get 2 copies of the same photo in my gallery. Is this because HDR is turned on? or is it "Scene optimizer" from bixby? I don't need 2 copies...

Does my app's fingerprint ever leave my phone?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 10:37 AM PDT

Hi, I use some apps which I have set a fingerprint, so I can access them.

I want to know if my fingerprint ever leaves my phone (in other words, can the app's vendor see my fingerprint).

Is it app by app or all apps in the market gain my fingerprint from my phone and they cannot send it over the Internet?

How in the world do I change my time format in Android 9???

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 03:38 AM PDT

A while ago, maybe a couple years ago, I changed my time to be a day/month/year format, to match what is done in many countries, and changed my phone's time to match this. Now, however, I use ISO 8601, and would like to change my phone to use it, but, well, I can't find the option anymore? TechAttack shows it being in the time and date setting in 2018, but the option no longer seems to exist there for me. Surely they couldn't have just removed the option to change the time format entirely… right?

Edit: Maybe I could change it by editing a config file manually, as I am rooted?

Possible problem with my new phone.

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 10:23 AM PDT

I just bought a Samsung A30s 5 days ago. It has a 4000mah battery. I am getting the feeling that it has a faulty battery. I started using my phone at 93%. It went to 92% in 4 minutes. Then to 91 in 7 minutes. Then to 90 in less than a minute. Finally, to 89 in some 8 or 9 minutes. I had my mobile data on and was browsing on chrome. I had it on optimized mode. Is this battery drain normal? If it is, can you tell me what kind of battery drop range is okay for a 4000mah battery?

Connecting USB keyboard to Galaxy S8, mapping some keys to set touch locations

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 08:42 PM PDT

I'd like to connect a USB keyboard to my Galaxy S8, and map 6 keys to 6 different set touch locations. What would be the best way to do this? I've thought about writing my own script to change keyboard events to simulated touch events, but I was curious if there was an existing or easier solution.

Unable to connect to wifi after water exposure - everything else appears to work [android 8.1.0/LG X Power 2]

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 06:33 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I looked for a general support sub and this appears to be it (if there is a better place to post this please let me know).

    Quick specs:

    • OS Version: Android 8.1.0
    • Device: LG X Power 2

Quick backstory is I was out for a walk and got caught in a torrential downpour. I was soaked right down to my boxers. Unfortunately my phone was in my pocket and was affected. With a combination of rice, towels, and a fan, I managed to get the phone turned off (cannot remove the battery or back plate unless you know what you're doing/have tools - which I have neither). I let it sit by the fan for a few days, rotating it every now and then.

After a couple days of sitting in the fan's trajectory I decided to try turning it on to see if the phone was toast or not. First attempt was without the SIM card. Clicked around and everything seemed fine. Turned it off and tried again with the SIM card. First attempt did not find the SIM card, but the phone has been known to do that from time to time so I turned it off, reseated the SIM card, and tried again and it was successful. I could click around and do stuff and seemed like it was okay. Did a test call with my parents and everything appeared to be working.

However I cannot connect to my wifi network. It sees the network but will not connect. It can also see the many networks of my neighbours, so it "works", but also doesn't. Whenever I attempt to connect, it shows "connecting..." and then really fast shows "saved". And that's it, never actually connects. If I exit everything and then come back it shows the network as "disabled", and sometimes it doesn't show the network at all (but shows others). When that happens I have to play around with the networking part of the phone and it does come back, and then I go through the whole process of trying to connect only for it to go back to "saved".

    Things I have tried:

    • Restarting the phone
    • Powering down the phone completely and turning it back on
    • Selecting the "Network settings reset" option in the network options menu
    • Disabling and re-enabling the wifi
    • Disabling the Bluetooth (this is usually off anyway)
    • Enabling and disabling the "switch to mobile data when a wifi connection is not found". This was off by default but I tried both settings.
    • Tried with airplane mode activated and deactivated
    • Double-checked my network password about 10 times as well as confirmed the password with my laptop
    • Even temporarily changed my network password to aaaaaaaa just to test but same outcome
    • Removed the password entirely (temporarily, of course) but same outcome
    • Tried my local grocery store's open wifi (no password) but same outcome
    • I had my phone's MAC saved to a reserved IP in my router and I disabled that
    • Checking for OS updates but I am apparently on the latest update

It sees the network. It shows the bars (strong signal as I'm sitting right next to the router). But just doesn't want to connect. I have tried everything I can think of except for a factory reset, which I am not prepared to do at this moment. If anyone has any suggestions I would be greatly appreciative.

    Thank you for your time.

    [Pixel 1] Random Reboots

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 06:26 AM PDT

Starting a couple days ago my Pixel started randomly rebooting a few times a day.

So far I've tried removing some third-party apps i wasn't using (and KWLP just to see if that was the culprit), and removing a good number of pictures to free up disk space.

It doesn't happen during any specific actions, I've had it happen during web browsing and during something as mundane as looking at the system settings menu.

Short of a factory reset, is there anything I can do to diagnose this? Does Android have an equivalent to Windows Event Viewer or /var/log/messages so I can see *why* the reboots are happening?

    Print Spooler/File Manager/Google Drive

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 11:45 AM PDT

I had a Pixel 3 that I used many hours a day for bussines. I would buy or do various things and be able to instantly save receipts and files to Google drive. Google drive was great because I can search within the body of a PDFs. Google drive played well across all different devices we have.

I broke the pixel and bought an unlocked Galaxy s10 plus. I took my Pixle3's functionality for granted I guess.

I can't get the Galaxy to save receipts or any other file directly to drive. The print spooler on the Galaxy has no save functionality other than internal storage. And you have to work your way through the file structure every time to put the files where you want them.

The print spooler on the Galaxy appears to be native to the device and I can't even change permissions.

Is there anything I can do here? Can I find out what print spooler my pixel used and get it on my Galaxy? Any other workaround?

Searching 'My Files' doesn't show folders?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 11:07 AM PDT

Hey Reddit. As the title says when trying to use the search function in the 'My Files' app on my Galaxy S10E I've noticed that folders never seem to show up. Say for example I try to find the folder where a specific games data is saved. Searching for the games name might come up with the apk of the game, assuming I have it downloaded still, but doesn't show the folder where all the games information is held. Despite being able to manually go into each folder and seeing the folder with the games data. Does anyone know if this is just how its supposed to be and if there's a workaround or another app I could download that would let me see folders when searching for their names?

Why do I ha e to restart my WiFi everytime I want to download something from Google play, sometimes right when I start sometimes right before it finishes, such that it will continue to download?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:59 AM PDT

It has probably been about 9 months since Iast used the play store. I don't remember it being that bad. Everytime I want to download something I have to press download and then restart my WiFi.

My tablet isn't on sleep before I enter the store i'am actually being active on various apps most of the time before I start thinking about downloading an app.

Question/suggestion about the phone screen turning on in a pocket.

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:36 AM PDT

I've had my phone turn on in my pocket and press a bunch of things, and it's very annoying. I love the features that turn the phone on when it's lifted or double tapped, however, it's not as useful when your phone is in your pocket. I know there is an "accidental touch protection" but it doesn't seem to work all the time. So I was wondering if there is or could be implemented a feature that could toggle a more secure lock screen. With that I mean to have AOD turned off, lift and double tap to wake disabled, so the phone can't accidentally turn on during that time, and the only way to wake it up is by pressing the power button. It could be for example a toggle in the notifications bar or a button on the lock screen. I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, if not, please guide me somewhere else, where more people would notice it.

TL;DR a feature to disable any way to accidentally turn on your phone while in your pocket or bag.

Wired earbud button never works to resume playing music. Pausing does work though.

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:26 AM PDT

Hey all, I've finally decided to ask this question after having the issue on multiple Android phones over the years with many different wired earbuds.

For some reason. Every time I pause music playing through the default Google play music app. I press the button again to play, nothing, press it again, and I hear the music play and stop for a microsecond. Then I press the button a THIRD time and it finally plays normally.

It's always the same, roughly 5-10 seconds after I pause, the issue appears. If I play before the 5-10 interval it works fine. Like the app goes to sleep or something?

    Anyone have a clue?

Devices used: OnePlus 5 and 6T Samsung Galaxy S

Every type of headphone/earbud you can think of with a button/mic on the cable.

Gboard Voice Dictation with Google Docs - command for new line / return?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 05:33 AM PDT

    Morning,

I've been using the built-in microphone on gboard to dictate text into a Google document. One thing I can't figure out is how to create a new line, or a line return. I've looked it up and people suggest saying "next line" or "enter." I've tried both of these and neither work, so I'm hoping somebody can tell me how to do this. The odd thing is that I can get a new paragraph (one line is skipped) I say "new paragraph."

I'm on Android 9.0 with the current version of gboard, and U.S. English voice dictate package downloaded.

Can I flash my Note 9 directly to the latest version?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:08 AM PDT

My Note 9 (SM-960U) is currently running N960USQU1CSC1 which was released all the way back in March 2019. I haven't been able to get any updates on my phone since then (even through Smart Switch). I was reading online, and it looks like a bad patch got released that made some phones get stuck on thier current version. I am planning to try and flash my phone to see if I can get it to the latest version. Can I go straight to the latest version, or do I have to update it to earlier versions first?

Access Google Discover with Home Screen Search Widget

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 08:58 AM PDT

Hello. I recently upgraded from LG v30 to Galaxy S20. One of the things I had on my v30 and brought to the s20 is the Google Search Widget on the home screen (example pic: https://i.imgur.com/YojMtAi.jpg) There was behavior on the v30 where I could click the Google logo at the leftmost of the search bar and it would open the Google Discover screen, now when I click the Google logo on the s20 it just opens the search bar. Anyone know how I can get it to open Discover when I click that Google logo?
