Pixel 4 XL - Gboard suggesting words typed in Chrome Incognito Mode Posted: 14 Jul 2020 09:40 AM PDT Hey all Apologies for the throwaway - the usernames given below aren't the actual usernames, but they demonstrate the issue. I have recently started using a Pixel 4 XL but am not new to android. I have an email account which has the same prefix as my Reddit username (e.g. JaguarNice[at]gmail.com) and JaguarNice). I opened up Chrome, went into incognito mode, and logged into my email by typing JaguarNice. I then went to Reddit, typed Jaguar, and to my surprise Gboard suggested JaguarNice. My old phone did not do this (see [here](https://www.technobuffalo.com/googles-gboard-keyboard-gets-an-incognito-mode)). Thinking it may just be retaining typed words for the session, I closed Chrome, went back into incognito mode, and started typing Jaguar into the Reddit login box, and it suggested JaguarNice again. So, the issue appears to be that Gboard is suggesting words typed in incognito mode, when it shouldn't be! Any suggestions? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Is the fingerprint scanner safe against fake or malicious sites? Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:55 AM PDT If a malicious website requests your fingerprint for verification reasons and you agree, can it actually steal your fingerprint? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:44 AM PDT Hi everyone Is there a way to view and respond to messages from my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G on my MacBook? I know it's possible on Windows but I was wondering if there's a Mac solution. I know I could use the Android messages app but if there is any way to do this with the default Samsung messaging app I would appreciate that. Thanks [link] [comments] |
How to turn off multimedia notifications on messages app Android 10 Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:26 AM PDT I checked something without looking and now everytime someone looks at an image I send I get a notification and I can't find where to turn it off [link] [comments] |
Hoping someone can explain this advert placement Posted: 14 Jul 2020 11:23 AM PDT Hi all Today I have had a pair of trainers delivered and then as if by magic the exact pair are now appearing in my partners ads on her phone. She's never searched for these, we don't share an email, we have no commonality that springs to mind between phones. All I did was mention in conversation this morning the trainer brand and website in the ad. I'm thinking it may be chrome with microphone permissions (which she had set to allow all time)? Any other thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Very weird problem regarding my download folder. Posted: 14 Jul 2020 08:07 AM PDT Nothing is able to access my download folder. I have no idea if its something I downloaded, but the download section in my gallery has disappeared. Plus all the songs in my download folder dont show up in my music player. The folder is still there, I can acess the files, but it seems nothing else can use it. Please help me out! Edit: I've solved the issue. Basically I had a .nomedia file in my downloads folder. And for some reason nothing could access the folder because of it. After deleting the .nomedia file, everything went back to normal. Hopefully this helps anyone else who has a similar issue. How to block web browsing on android. Posted: 14 Jul 2020 02:30 AM PDT I want to completely block web browsing on my son's phone to avoid him watching porn (he is just 13). He is very proficient in informatics and everything I try (safesearch, openDNS), he finds a way to circumvent that. So I think the best way is to completely shut off internet browsing from his phone, so he won't be able to access internet in any way, but I want him to mantain the ability to use some internet related apps like whatsapp, spotify and google maps. Is it possible to do that? Thank you... EDIT: I already talk openly to my son and we have a good relationship. But he is just too young and does not realize the potential issues of watching all that porn. It is not his fault nor mine, it's just a plague of technology. I can confiscate the phone for some time but that won't solve the problem, he will need the phone to chat with friends, list to music... he will be emarginated without a phone. I just want to stop him from watching porn multiple times per day (because from his search history, he does several times per day). But it looks like it is impossible. I think that giving him a very bad phone that is usable for whatsapp but not for videos is the best thing (for example, that phone could have a very bad screen, or be so slow that browsing will be a pain, so he will be discouraged to do so). Can you suggest me a phone suitable for that purpose, please? [link] [comments] |
Need help with android moto g8 play Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:54 PM PDT Hey i just have a fast question, i have a moto g8 play which at the moment does not support 64 bit games by the obvious fact of using a 32 bit system. Is there a way a can change/fix that? i paid alot (for me at least) for this phone and the fact that it is 32 bits makes me really mad. [link] [comments] |
Pixel 3a speaker phone question Posted: 14 Jul 2020 06:55 AM PDT Sometimes, more often than not, while on speaker phone, the sound only comes out of the bottom speaker. This pretty much defeats the purpose of speaker phone. The strange thing is that it only happens sometimes. Other times the speaker phone works fine.. My phone is updated, I think. Not sure why it's happening [link] [comments] |
Bricked Galaxy Active Watch 2 - technical assistance Posted: 14 Jul 2020 08:54 AM PDT Oh dear oh dear..... So I made a massive schoolboy error - bought an Active 2 (44mm) watch off eBay. They informed me it was the UK version, it was actually a German version and therefore Samsung Pay wasn't working. Instead of sending it back and getting a replacement etc like an absolute idiot... I decided to try and fix it myself - flashed the watch using SM-R830 combination firmware as opposed to the SM-R820 combination firmware and now the device is unusable, stuck, bricked whatever you may call it in ODIN Mode with the following screen: ODIN MODE PRODUCT NAME: SM-R820 CURRENT BINARY: Samsun Official REACTIVATION LOCK: ON Secure Download: Enabled CARRIER_ID: WARRANTY VOID: 0 (0x0000) RP SWREV: B:0 K:0 S:0 Secure JTAG Disabled!!! I know if I send the watch back they will send it to Samsung who will run a diagnostics etc and will determine that someone has attempted to flash it (me). Yes I wish I had returned it now but I am where I am. I know that there is not a way of wirelessly connecting now because this mode seems to disable all of the possible options (Upload, Download, Upload (Wireless), Download (Wireless), Factory Command, Recovery) Samsung won't take it naturally because it's been "tampered with" so my remaining way is to hardwire to a PC and flash the device with the correct firmware second time round. Has anyone had any success with achieving this? Please don't point me to an XDA forum because I've already looked at their feeds on this and it just showing what people have tried and not whether they succeeded or not. I look forward to being mocked in the comments, I know how stupid this situation is which could have been easily remedied by just sending it back. [link] [comments] |
Recommend me a simply workflow for getting photos to pC Posted: 14 Jul 2020 05:07 AM PDT Right now, if I want to access a photo I took using my phone, on my computer, what I do is I upload the photo to my Google Drive, then open it in my browser on PC, and then download the photo(s). I'm getting kind of sick of this. There are so many steps, for something that I'm doing fairly often. My Pictures folder is also starting to fill up with the nondescript "drive-download-xxxxxxxxxxxxx.zip" files, which is kind of annoying. I don't have an exact solution in mind, so I was hoping that someone could recommend me a better workflow. Something more seamless and elegant. My phone is a Huawei Mate 10, and my PC is running Windows 10. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Is there A way to get an alert when a specific bluetooth device comes in range? Posted: 14 Jul 2020 08:45 AM PDT As the title suggests, I want a way to get an alert when a specific bluetooth device comes within range. It will not be paired, but it will be discovered. Is this possible on android? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:25 PM PDT I just got an S10 and it is absolutely amazing. There is literally only one thing about this phone that I absolutely hate and it is the speech to text. You see, I used to have an S6. The speech to text on there was quite intuitive. When you pressed the backspace button it deleted the entire word when you were using it, and certain words like and/or in would be underlined and have options to replace it with another word that sounded similar just in case that it got it wrong a. For whatever reason the S10 speech to text does not do this. the backspace does one letter and if it types and instead of in, I have to delete the letters one by o e, go back to keyboard and type it. Are there any settings that I am not looking at that can change this? Because I'm not seeing any settings about it. Or is there something I can download that will fix this? [link] [comments] |
Samsung J7 Factory Reset Relaunches To Bootloader Posted: 13 Jul 2020 07:53 PM PDT My GF's parents bought a Samsung J7 from eBay that was listed as new in box. They said the box was sealed with Samsung labels. I noticed while setting it up that some things regarding the sim and email in Android were not English (my guess Korean). I tried to factory reset the phone and when I did it rebooted into the bootloader and says "dm-verity verification failed". I tried forcing a factory reset from the bootloader which appeared to work but showed some odd messages. Is anyone familiar with this because I don't know Samsung phones at all. I've had nothing but nexus and pixel since the OG Nexus. I have some familiarity with unlocking and rooting and it seems to me like the phone software was tampered with. Any insight is appreciated. MicroG and Google Play on Huawei Posted: 14 Jul 2020 11:25 AM PDT Huawei phones don't come with Google Play Services. Because of this, some apps don't work properly. Now I know that it isn't easy to sideload GMS on a Huawei phone so I was wondering if it's possible to make some apps to work properly with MicroG. Has anyone tried this and if yes do apps like YouTube work properly? [link] [comments] |
LG v40/Android 10 camera quality Posted: 14 Jul 2020 11:20 AM PDT I've noticed that ever since my Android 10 update the camera quality has gotten significantly worse! Has anyone else noticed this? Picture quality is terrible now. [link] [comments] |
Disable auto spacing after backspace and misleading autocorrect? Posted: 14 Jul 2020 11:07 AM PDT Im on a kindle fire, and the android keyboard in it is the bane of me. I have every feature disabled, but websites (esp. on Chrome) fuck with the keyboard. when I backspace to fix a typo, it adds a space. I need to delete the whole word, otherwise instead of the fixed word, it gets me something like 'nothi ng'. Additionally, it hides my typos, so I wont catch them- itll autocorrect my words, but since I have autocorrect off, it just reverts it back to what it was really typed as after ive passed the word, having masked the word as what it was supposed to be. Is there some way to disable these lodged deep in the settings or am I screwed? [link] [comments] |
What is the best Android emulator? Posted: 14 Jul 2020 10:49 AM PDT I am trying to join an Instagram live but through my PC. My filming setup and lighting are all done for my desk, and I do not have a good replacement that uses my phone. I found some pieces of software that will let me stream directly to Instagram live, but not join an ongoing live broadcast. I through an emulator is the best alternative. Therefore, my question is: what is the best Android emulator to use given that I need to passthrough my audio input, audio output, and camera to the emulator from my PC. I am running Windows 10. Samsung Galaxy A50 keeps disconnecting data Posted: 14 Jul 2020 10:34 AM PDT As the title says, my Samsung Galaxy A50 that I got last year keeps disconnecting data with the latest update to OneUI 2.0 and Android 10. I can still text and call, but I can't use data for Reddit or Google or anything else. Sometimes I get a data tethering error, but that only started recently. This normally happens when I'm in the car moving between cell towers, but it's very distracting and annoying. I'm on Sprint in the US. What I've tried: - Connection setting reset - Wiping and resetting everything - Resetting connections via phone number thing 'Sprint data rest' Temporary Workaround: - Rebooting normally works Any help is appreciated! Thanks. [link] [comments] |
