| How do I enable Call Screening on my Google Pixel? Posted: 16 Jul 2020 06:16 AM PDT I have two Pixel 3a phones. On one of them, I have call screen enabled, as can be seen in this picture of my Phone > Settings panel. It works great, and I would like to enable it on my partner's phone. However, on that other phone, the Phone > Settings panel has a different entry: "Caller ID & spam", and there does not seem to be any options related to call screening. This seems to be in conflict with step 3 of the current Android doc on the subject, which states that we should have a "Spam and Call Screen" option, not "Caller ID & spam". I have made sure that there are no updates available for the Phone app. It appears to be at version 51.0.320432762, updated on July 9 2020. One clue I might add is that my partner has been known to deny permissions to various apps when prompted, without fully appreciating the ramifications of those decisions. The Phone app appears to have all permissions that it requires, but I don't know if there are other apps I should check. All that said - how can I enable call screening on this phone? Recently, when I use the button on the headset to answer/end calls or stop/start music it opens google assistant instead of performing the desired task. | Transfer from Samsung to other Android with no USB. Posted: 16 Jul 2020 12:24 PM PDT So I've got a Galaxy S9 with a trashed USB-C port and degraded battery (which is surprising, I've only had it for 2 years). My sister upgraded to a Red Magic 5G from a Red Magic 3, so now I can use the RM3... but the problem is my USB port, it charges sometimes (if you hold the cord in the right way) but it's no longer capable of USB data transfer when plugging into a PC (the prompt for transferring doesn't appear on the phone, and the phone doesn't appear in Windows). Android 9 no longer has ADB backup, so both USB options are out. Google Cloud Backup doesn't save all data and has a maximum capacity of 15GB, but I've got over 50GB of data to transfer including documents (PDFs, configs, and sideloaded apps) that Google won't save. Samsung does a full-system backup to your Samsung account's cloud, but you can only restore from the Samsung cloud to another Samsung phone. The only thing I can think of would be to backup my S9's files using a MicroSD card, and use the Google Cloud for everything else - but then the RM3 doesn't have a MicroSD slot, I would have to transfer the data from the Micro to my W10 PC, then from PC to RM3. Sounds easy enough, but I don't know what programs to use for this - like, what's a good free rootless MicroSD backup app? And since Android 9 doesn't have ADB, how would I go from PC to RM3, just manually click-and-drag it over? Also, since the RM3 lacks a MicroSD slot and the USB-C port will eventually wear out (which can't be prevented as it doesn't have wireless charging), what do I do for keeping it backed up from now on? As a sidenote, there are some Samsung UI features I'm going to miss on the RM3, can anyone suggest alternatives? Firstly for SMS texting, I've gotten used to Samsung Messages which is fantastic, but trying to use the stock Android Messages on the RM3 (or even the new Q version on her RM5G) feels like a major downgrade and I hate it - alternatives? There's a lot of little accessibility features like the amazing Samsung Keyboard, dropping the notif shade by swiping the fingerprint sensor, having the Edge Bar, and especially the aesthetics and situational features of the Nav Bar... is there any way I can get the nav bar or keyboard like the Samsung ones? | Something Is Making Browsers Show Pop Ups Posted: 16 Jul 2020 04:32 AM PDT I reset my Huawei P10 a few weeks back and since then I've contracted a bug that shows a new browser tab with an advert even if I haven't used the browser that day. It doesn't matter what browser I have installed. Built in security (Avast), AVG and MalwareBytes all failed to find anything. I currently have no browser installed and this seems to have stopped the pop ups. Clearly this isn't a great solution. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |

| Audio jack not working when cable is connected to other device Posted: 16 Jul 2020 11:39 AM PDT I have this cheap usb audio recorder that i use for a lot of things, even if uts noisy it works ok with everything, the onyl exception is my phone (a motorola g7 power, android 9), when my aux cable is connected to both the phone and the usb recorder, the phone ignores it and outputs audio through the speaker, but when i disconect it from the usb recorder and keep the phone connected to the cable, it works, its not useless but its tedious to have to keep connecting and disconecting cables every time i wanna record a small clip of audio, is there any way to force the phone onto headphone mode or something to keep this from happening? Posted: 16 Jul 2020 11:14 AM PDT Hey folks, I was just wondering if there was a way I could basically block all incoming calls besides my contacts, without using do not disturb. The reason for this is that I have do not disturb set to specific settings for nighttime use, and would rather not like to need it on all the time and change settings for later. This is all because of an overwhelming increase in spam calls recently (and some spam texts). I haven't given my number away and I haven't answered any calls but they keep increasing, so if anyone has another solution that could fix that problem I'd appreciate that just as much! Thank you! | Suddenly my PC does not recognize my phone anymore. Posted: 16 Jul 2020 10:34 AM PDT So i have a OnePlus 7 Pro and because my wifi is kinda bad and keeps dropping in my room i use this thing called gnirehtet to tether internet from my PC to my phone via USB to USB-C. All i had to do was plug in my phone and i would hear a little sound from my PC indicating it recognized my phone and i would see the USB debugging notification on my phone. Today out of the blue it stopped working and i didnt change a thing. I have been using it this way for a couple of months now. Any ideas on what may have caused this? [link] [comments] |
