Which Diablo clones are actually similar to Diablo? (discussion)

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 03:41 AM PDT

Im also going to add ratings just to give an idea of how much I think a game is similar to Diablo.

1- not like Diablo 2- looks like Diablo/has same elements with Diablo but are very minimal 3- somewhat reminiscent to Diablo 4- similar to Diablo 5- good clone of Diablo

I'll start off with "AnimA" currently the most popular Diablo clone on mobile.

AnimA feels like it's still a beta. It does feature some of the basic dungeon crawler elements (stat progression, item customization, and exploration). The story is a bit hollow and doesn't really play a huge role in the game. There is a small hub/village that looks like it's suppose to be "New Tristam" from Diablo III. Skill tree is good enough. Enemy variety is not that good considering they all do the same "mindlessly walk towards and attack the hero" strategy. The game just feels lacking. For starters, there are no runes, depth in items is average, and the open world is almost desolate (to make things worse they made a "persistent progression" mechanic where enemies don't respawn). It just feels like the same indie dungeon crawler you'd find way back in 2012. It is a good foundation for a game though. The graphics are good (imo looks more like a Path of Exile clone than Diablo) aswell as the interface is good enough. I also think the game is not fully translated yet. Some of the voice overs are still in Russian when I started playing. Overall 2/5. The game has a good foundation for building a dungeon crawler with depth, just not much content to it.

    Heretic Gods

Heretic Gods is an older game that's still in development to this day. The game doesn't hide that it aspires to be like Diablo (specifically Diablo II). I'd say it's doing a pretty good job too. The game has a HUGE amount of depth. There are no classes because you can customize your own play style. The skill tree is huge and there is possibly 200+ items and atleast 20+ (maybe even 50, Im not sure) armor sets. The game has rune customization like in D2. There is no open world though. Still, every dungeon is randomized which offers a good amount of exploration. One good thing, it allows you to share an inventory with all your other characters which is pretty useful. Enemies are also diverse which adds a bit of strategy in combat. The game also has a dark gothic aesthetic that borrows elements from medieval and even norse mythology. This game doesn't come without flaws though. Visually, customization is not that good. Your character looks the same most of the time. Combat is very awkward (especially melee) and lacks impact. Character (your character) also has a very weird model. There are visible bugs such as hellhounds gliding towards you and such. If they do some re-modelling and some more tweaks, I'd say Heretic Gods is a REALLY good Diablo clone. Overall 3/5.

    Eternium

Eternium is a common recommend when it comes to dungeon crawlers. But I don't think it's highly similar to Diablo at all. The game is a standard RPG with lots of depth. If were talking items, skills, enemy diversity, and overall progression, Eternium has you covered. But is it like Diablo? No. First off, the game is linear and there isn't really much to explore considering all you have to do is clear levels and escape. The companion system is unlike most RPGs, you can literally make your companion as powerful or even more powerful than you, and they also have active skills. The game is pretty much known for it's tap and swipe based combat and western medieval fantasy art style with cartoon-ish proportions for character designs. There isn't really much to say in my opinion. It's pretty standard. I guess it has elements comparable to Diablo but it's very minimal. Overall, 2/5. The game has elements similar to Diablo but creates enough mechanics to be known as it's own independent game.

    Dungeon Quest

Dungeon Quest is not like Diablo. It's HIGHLY similar to Torchlight which is kinda based off Diablo. So I guess it counts as a Diablo clone? Anyway, the game is a standard hack and slash. There is more emphasis on combat more than anything else. It has a good amount of combat variety, enemies are diverse, and the game is fastpaced. Itemwise, the game has hundreds of items. There is a good amount of customization and IAPs are only for cosmetic items. The game can start of easy (levels 1-30) but when you get to level 40+? The game gets even better. Harder enemies, secret maps that has better droprate for legendary items (and sometimes even eternal tier items), items that lets you borrow other skills from other classes, and runestones with even more powerful enchantment effects start to appear. Basically customization becomes better as you progress. This game is very heavy on loot and if you like item hoarding and maximizing your stats based on your items in RPGs, this game is for you. Overall, 4/5. Game is very similar to Torchlight which is very similar to Diablo.

    Hero Siege

Hero Siege is a game that is similar to Diablo (combat-wise). The game is a hack and slash with 12 (?) classes. You start off in a small village where you can enter portals with varying difficulties. That's also where the game begins. After that, you have to fight hordes of enemies and bosses, collect loot, and take on quests. Hero Siege's item customization is not that complicated but there is visible depth in it (there is a huge selection of items and has different passive effects depending on rarity). My only complain is that customization is not visible except when it's a hat/skin. The game, unlike Diablo, has a good amount of humor and pop culture references thrown into it. To summarize, Hero Siege embodies the chaotic combat and item customization of Diablo. Everything else, the game does differently. 3/5, very reminiscent to Diablo.

    Blood Warrior

Blood Warrior is a linear hack and slash inspired by Diablo III's artstyle. Most of it (especially the village and some customization screens are very similar to Diablo). Though it was inspired by Diablo, it is mainly a hack and slash. There is a lot of stat and item upgrades and some character customization but that's it. You go through the campaign, do a little PvP, and hack and slash to your heart's content in the arena. There's not much depth to it but this game borrows elements from Diablo III, and perfectly emulates the hack and slash aspect of it. Which is a shame because this is a really good foundation if you want to make a Diablo-like game. The devs chose to simply make it a hack and slash. That doesn't mean it's not fun though, this game is my no. 1 pick if I ever want to rampage in a hack and slash game. Overall, 2/5. As a stand alone game, 4.8/5. Imo it's a great game for it's genre.

    Pocket Rogues

Originally, I thought Wayward Souls was the "If Diablo was a roguelike" game. Pocket Rogues did a better job of doing that. Pocket Rogues is a standard RPG. There is stat augementation and item customization. Though you can only upgrade character stats after dying and then you have to start over (thus the roguelike aspect of it). One minor complain, the game requires you to upgrade your fortress which also gives a level cap to your character (which makes it more grindy). Visually, the game has a pixel artstyle though skills aren't really the flashy type. The skills are very basic (block, dash, modified block) and very minimal (having only 9 skills per class). The character models also hinder visual customization which makes it not that good. The combat requires strategic hit-and-run tactics to make it more challenging. It's all pretty standard. If you like the dungeon crawling and item management aspect of Diablo, this game is for you (expect a more toned down version though). Overall, 3/5.

    Triglav

Triglav is another roguelike dungeon crawler. I have already reviewed this game on an "underrated games" post so Im just going to point out it's similarities to Diablo. The game perspective is similar to Diablo 1 and 2. There is a lot of depth in item management but inventory is extremely limited. The game design isn't like Diablo though. It's more of a swampy and ruined tower setting that borrows monsters from various mythologies. There isn't really much combat variety. It's a really standard roguelike hack and slash that looks like Diablo but , same as Eternium , creates enough elements to be known as it's own game. Overall, 2/5.

    9th Dawn series

This is my favorite part of the list. The 9th Dawn games are AMAZING. Even deemed the "mobile Morrowind". First off, it claims to have the largest open world on mobile. And so far, I haven't played anything that can prove the game wrong. If you're also familiar with it, you'd know 9th Dawn is an award winning indie game not just on mobile. It is VERY similar to not only Diablo, but even games like Zelda and Skyrim. There are a lot of puzzles and quests. And the game informs you of secrets that can be very rewarding. Powerful loot and secret NPCs can be found throughout tha game so you'll have to search every area thoroughly for secret levels and even passageways. The game offers a wide combat variety through customization. A tanky wizard or even a magic based warrior, how you want to play, it's all up to you. The game has enough customizations for that. It also applies the tactical combat of Skyrim to the Isometric hack and slash format of Diablo. I'd go on, but it would take EXTREMELY longer. But now I think you know what I mean, 9th Dawn is amazing. 5/5 diablo rating and 5/5 game rating.

    Exiled Kingdoms

EK is a freemium game that is clearly inspired by older Diablo games. It's a standard RPG and there's a lot of depth to it. One of the best things about this game, is it's massive and interactive open world. But besides Diablo, it has a classic Zelda feel to it. The hack and slash is very minimal and consists more quests and puzzles than combat. Normally, I'd explain further the progression system in this game but by now I think you guys know what I mean by "standard RPG". And it would probably have made this list EVEN longer so...

Overall, 4/5. The game has more adventure in it, but most of it's elements are similar to Diablo.

    Summary

AnimA: 2/5 (borrows minimal elements from Diablo) Heretic Gods: 3/5 (reminiscent to Diablo) Eternium: 2/5 (borrows minimal elements from Diablo) Dungeon Quest: 4/5 (similar to Diablo) Hero Siege: 3/5 (reminiscent to Diablo) Blood Warrior: 2/5 (borrows minimal elements from Diablo) Pocket Rogues: 3/5 (reminiscent to Diablo) Triglav: 2/5 (borrows minimal elements from Diablo) 9th Dawn 1 and 2 : 5/5 (good Diablo clone) Exiled Kingdoms: 4/5 (similar to Diablo)

Tbh, I would have added a Dungeon Hunter 4 and Lesabel review if those games weren't already dead. Both games are 4/5 btw and are one of the best ARPGs to have ever been on mobile so RIP DH4 and Lesabel (good thing I still have DH4 on my playstore library)

I haven't checked out "Vengeance" and "Arcane Quest Legends" yet so if anyone has played it, can you share it in the comments?

I need help to find a game I used to play

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 07:40 AM PDT

UPDATE: found the game, it's Death Rally

I'm just going straight to the point: I'm looking for a racing game that I used to play some time ago.

Description from my memories playing it: - it's a top-down racing game that got featured in the google play store a couple years ago. - I remember the fame taking places in the desert, at least the intro level it featured upon first startup. - You could equip your vehicle with some weapons, one I remember being a cluster of small homing missiles. - The game icon was a Tire with a trail of flames behind it. - The game is free. EDIT: - It had a campaign mode - The graphics were realistic style. - One stage was a 1vsAll with a main enemy being an agressive police officer driving some sort of off-road monster truck.

That's all I could gather, but if you have any lead and can help me out, I can try to give a few more descriptions

    Any help welcome

The whole premise was that you clicked on where on the map you wanted your character to go and they would quest while they were there. I remember the beginning of the game had you go into some woods and then go to a dock.
