Posted: 23 Jun 2020 04:32 AM PDT I keep seeing a lot of misinformation being thrown around about these devices, their performance, and the SoC (Amlogic S905Y2). This SoC is found in the ADT-3 Android TV reference / dev box and so unsurprisingly in the TiVo Stream 4K, almost certainly in the Xiaomi Mi Stick 4K, and presumably in the Google Chromecast Ultra 2 (aka Sabrina aka Nest Cast aka whatever). So let's clear up some things.
Which brings me to my last group of points:
I am defining "you" as the vast majority of users, even those who think they're somehow special because they know what Plex and Kodi are. I have a single $40 AC router, a $100 laptop acting as my Plex Server (no transcoding), and all 4 of my modern devices - TCL TV with Roku Ultra built-in, Mi Box (not S), Amazon Fire Stick 4K, and TiVo Stream 4K - can stream 20GB+ 4K files over my wireless network without issue. If you can't do this, your network sucks and you should spend your money on upgrading it instead of a $50 streaming stick if you have to choose between the two. Now, are you somehow special? Do you need more because you do more with your streaming device, like gaming? Great! I'm not suggesting that these are good enough for everyone on the planet and that's what the Shield is there for. If this is you, why are you even looking at these dongles and sticks? Bring on the downvotes. [link] [comments]
Android TV UPDATE killed Kodi! Posted: 23 Jun 2020 02:12 AM PDT DEVICE: Android TV - Version 8 APP: Kodi - Version 18.7 So i've been using Kodi for well over a year now on this TV with no problems what so ever. I have a Sony Android TV (2015) model, and i have an external HD with my purchased movies on it that i plug into my TV and use the Kodi app on my TV to watch my movies. I haven't had a single issue, until my TV suddenly 'upgraded' itself to Android 8 last week, and now several apps no longer work, including Kodi! All my movies show up on the Kodi Home screen, and in the movies section, they also show up in the 'files' section. I know they work, i have played them on several other apps, and on my Chromebook, but Kodi will no longer play them after updating to Android 8. I have unistalled Kodi several times now, but still no good. It shows my movies, but when i click on them absolutely nothing happens as if the file no longer exists. Any ideas on what to do other than never buy an Android TV again and trust their shitty updates that bricks apps? I'd love to get Kodi to work again, without having to resort to buying another TV lol. UPDATE: I plugged my HD into my Chromebook that is running the older Kodi 18.6, and Kodi does EXACTLY the same thing as it does on my TV?! I am currently playing a movie using NOVA Video Player on my TV, so my HD is fine! [link] [comments]

How can I add authentication protected m3u list to live tv? Posted: 22 Jun 2020 12:03 PM PDT My ISP has a authentication protected m3u list. It's a link with port number and to login i can use my ISP credentials. I can stream the channels with various apps but I haven't found one yet to be supported by googles live tv app. Could someone please recommend me a good app I could try? Thanks in advance. An update about Videocalling support on Android TV 9 Posted: 22 Jun 2020 09:51 AM PDT Google introduced native UVC webcam support on Android TV with Android 9. Although at first it seemed to be buggy, turns out developers must provide support directly into their apps in order to be able to send the video in the highest resolution supported by the webcam and be heard through the webcam's microphone. The only four apps with Android TV support are: - TrueConf (for consumers and/or bussiness users) - Jami (for consumers and/or bussiness users) - VEEDEEO (for bussiness users) - Rainbow Room (for bussiness users) TrueConf already fixed the microphone problem when using any UVC webcam with Android TV devices different than the Nvidia Shield. Jami is currently reviewing the issue. I can't confirm about VEEDEEO and Rainbow Room apps. Non-Android TV sideloaded apps like Zoom, etc. are not guaranteed to operate as they should. So, if you are already a TrueConf user, please share your experience in the comments section. [link] [comments]
