Posted: 04 May 2020 08:12 PM PDT I've been looking into replacing my iPhone 6, and thinking about getting an android phone to save a few hundred bucks here or there, versus paying $650 for an iPhone 11. I know about the SE2 and the battery just sucks, not really considering it. My iPhone 6's battery turned to shit sometime around year 3/4 causing lots of issues (<1hr screen on time in ~year 5 now lol). What has prevented me from using android in the past has mainly been a concern over the longevity of devices, since I like to keep mine for ~5 years. My understanding from my own research is that after project treble, custom roms became a lot easier to build, and while qualcomm doesn't provide firmware updates, you can still get android security patches. I'd just be interested in hearing people's feedback with custom-rom friendly devices (like pixels for example). I'm particularly interested in hearing about people's experiences with things like Safetynet (using banking/payment apps with custom roms+Magisk), and if things became a headache (battery/perf/stability/functionality issues) past year ~3 when official support dropped. For example, I probably wouldn't be willing to reflash my phone with a new rom every month etc... If it matters, the phone I'm considering is specifically the pixel 4a or the pixel 3a if the 4a flops on launch or something (I'm limited to Verizon/CDMA phones). Thanks [link] [comments] |

When looking at the status bar, there are only 4 notification icons which are shown after which there's a white dot and none gets shown further. | Converting Keyboard Buttons to Swipe Gestures Posted: 05 May 2020 09:43 AM PDT Hey everyone, I have a iphone currently (please don't judge) and in iphone there is a setting in accessibility > switch control mode where I can connect a bluetooth keyboard and map the keyboard keys to swipe gestures (good for games and what not)...was interested in switching to android and I was wondering if anything like this exists on android? My friend's family situation is, in a word, terrible, and she needs to remove Google family link from her Android (LG G7 ThinQ) so she can stay safe from them tracking her. Everything is locked--factory reset, logging out of Google, development override, etc. Any action is blocked by an administrative popup. Is there a way to remove the Google family link from her phone, or is she screwed and just needs to buy a new one? [link] [comments] |
| Pixel 3XL Won't power down without being plugged in Posted: 05 May 2020 12:32 PM PDT Very strange problem with my Google Pixel 3XL. Any ideas? It will not power down nor turn off without being plugged into the charger but runs fine without it! Once charged it will run fine. Kinda. It will run for about 8 hours, seems to get pretty hot. Much less battery life than usual. Again when I take it off the charger, if I go to restart or power down, it will turn the screen black and then go back to the home screen - stops midway. Looking at battery usage, I cannot see any apps that are taking too much battery but it always shows a very high screen time like in hours. But the screen is off as before. I have tried safe mode, removing recent apps, battery saver, reviewing apps updates, and recently did a hard reset and reinstall . The original Samsung charger no longer works (does nothing) but some but not all 3rd party chargers are working (slow and fast). Any ideas??? [link] [comments] |
| App Data didnt restore all previous logins etc after factory reset. Posted: 05 May 2020 12:21 PM PDT I was under the assumption that once the app data was restored, I would pick up from where I left off but now I have to re-sign back into all my apps to be able to use them. | problem with Odin (v1.82, 1.85 & 1.87) ID:0/003 added-removed-added-removed and so on Posted: 05 May 2020 12:16 PM PDT Firstly, I don't know much about Odin, so bear with me, and tell me if I have missed something obvious. problem: Without anything at all connected to any USB port on my laptop, Odin suddenly shows 0:[COM3] in the ID:COM row, and in the message box it displays "<ID:0/003> Added!!". Then, after 25-30 sec the 0:[COM3] in the ID:COM row disappears and the message box shows "<ID:0/003> Removed!!". After 2-5 sec, I get 0:[COM3] and "<ID:0/003> Added!!" again, and the cycle continues. I have timed it and it is ca 25-30 sec on and 2-5 sec off, and when I finally closed Odin it had done this ca 30 cycles with no changes. And as I said, this is without anything physically connected to any USB port at all. Not even a USB cord. This is tested with Odin 1.82, 1.85, 1.87, started as Admin. Old versions since I wanted to fix a i9000 My computer is a thinkpad t460s, with win10pro v1903. After googling around I installed samsung usb drivers 1.7.23.0. No difference at all. I can connect an android smartphone to the laptop and from Windows access it as storage including the smartphones removable SD card. I understand that the problem might well be with my computer, either hardware, drivers or windows. But, USB seems to generally work for me with on it, with tings like flashmemory and a small usb audiocard, and as mentioned I can also access the storage of several different samsung smartphones. | Phone won't turn on, help please Posted: 05 May 2020 10:39 AM PDT Eaelier today my phone screen freaked out and turned green and white with static like noise sound happening. So I held down the power button to force it off. But then it wouldnt turn back on, and the screen stays black while charging. I tried rebooting it, holding the power button down again, holding the power button and the volume down key at the same time, and the power button with the volume up at the same time too. I've been looking at options that include devices like the Lenovo Smart Clock, Google Nest Hub, Chromecast driving a dumb display, and a dedicated Android tablet. I can't seem to find anything that actually gives me everything I want. The Nest Hub looks so nice, but no audio out. I can't understand why they would do that. | Is Google hostile to custom ROMs? Posted: 05 May 2020 09:45 AM PDT Recently there was some news that Magisk may no longer be able to pass SafetyNet checks. While Magisk is for rooting, from what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, but unlocking your bootloader (to install a custom ROM) results in SafetyNet being broken. I guess my question is is this bad for custom ROM users? I know SafetyNet prevents the use of Google Pay and some banking apps, among some others. Or would this just be a mild inconvenience? | Posted: 05 May 2020 08:10 AM PDT I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ , and my headphone jack was okay until today. I plugged in my headphones and the music just kept playing on the regular phone speaker. Tried with another pair of headphones, same thing. I restarted my phone and left the headphones plugged in, and they worked, but when i unplugged them and plugged them in again, the same thing happened.
