| Is there a Reddit alternative app? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 06:16 AM PDT Is there another app that's trustworthy and runs just as good as the official app? I'm tired of seeing TRENDING or POPULAR on Reddit notifications, I tried turning them off in the Reddit settings as you can't through the phones notification settings for the app but it still spams me with them. Unless someone has the solution what's another app that loads Reddit that blocks those annoying notifications? [link] [comments] |
| List of Android phones that support HDMI out over USB-C/DisplayPort Posted: 22 Apr 2020 09:00 AM PDT Pretty much what the title says. Is anyone aware of such a list? I've been looking and struck out, so maybe we can make one in this thread. To be clear, what I'm looking for are phones that support HDMI (and other data formats) output over USB-C. Most wireless casting devices require that the phone and device be on the same wireless network, which is a problem if you are in an area with either no internet or internet too slow to stream. The only way I know of to use a phones unlimited data to stream and mirror on a TV without connecting both to a wireless network is to connect via a dongle and HDMI cable. Samsung phones support this, Google phones don't. For those of us who require this, what phones support this functionality? Does your phone support HDMI out over USB-C? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
| Phone call received by two different people? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:06 PM PDT Yesterday, I made a call on my phone to someone, let's call them person X. As soon as the phone started dialing, I noticed that it was counting the seconds (that is supposed to happen only when the other party has picked up the phone, or you're calling a corporate and they're using a switchboard). Anyway, it rang for about 5 seconds and then someone picked up. Let's call this someone person Y. Person Y is a stranger, I don't know them at all. They spoke a few words which I now can't recall, and then I asked "Where is person X?". The stranger kept quiet for about 5 seconds, they didn't appear to want to respond, so I hung up. Immediately after this, I called person X again. This time, he was on the line. I told him I just called his number and a stranger picked up. He was surprised. He told me that he actually received that call from me. He tried to talk to me, but he didn't hear anything from me. No static, nothing. Just silence. I confirmed from my call logs that I indeed dialed the right number. At this point, we were beyond perplexed. Essentially, what this means is that I called a phone number, and two people simultaneously picked up. I initially didn't think this is even possible due to the encyption used in GSM networks, but a quick research here brings up this:
Still, this would mean that there is a glaring bug in my service provider's systems for this incident to have been possible. Stuff like this makes it appear like it shouldn't even be possible? I tried contacting my service provider on Twitter and they haven't responded to me, two days later (they never do this, they always respond in a few minutes). I called their customer care and you can imagine how well that went. The customer care representative told me that the incident I just described is "impossible". She checked the call log, and from their system, it shows that the call went to person X. She insisted that what I just explained can never be possible in a million worlds. My question is this, the incident that happened, how common is such a thing? Is it even possible? Could someone have been tapping my phone number with some sort of sophisticated switchboard? How much of a concern should this be for this service provider regarding their privacy track record? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:51 PM PDT So a woman I know found a Galaxy S10 in her yard. She has contacted her neighbors and people she knows trying to find out whose it is but can't figure it out. I figure I'll give it one last try to find the owner. I'm an iPhone guy so I'm not familiar with how to do this. It has the lock screen where you draw a pattern. I've tried a few common ones (L shape, C shape, X shape, etc) but now I only have 5 attempts left so I don't want to try much more. Can't access Bixby while the phone is locked. No one has tried to call it so I can't even work from there. Is there a step I'm missing as far as trying to get this back? These things are pricey and losing one would be terrible, especially right now. Thanks everyone! [link] [comments] |
| Multimedia control over 3.5mm TRRS in car Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:46 PM PDT What I have: 1) Steering wheel with resistance buttons 2) 3.5mm TRRS wire 3) Rooted Xiaomi Mi9T, Android Q What I want: Map all the buttons to do specific action(Volume+, Volume-, Track+, Track-, open Google.Maps) What I've done I've already connected mic and ground poles to controls, so when I press specific button on my steering wheel my telephone receives specific resistance value. Technically it is like a standard 3-button headset, but with more buttons. Fortunately, my phone can determine any resistance value of my buttons. Unfortunately, standard settings allow me to map only 2 buttons and use it only as Track+/Track- or Volume+/Volume-. It is working totally fine, but I have more buttons and I want to use them all. So I ask you how can I do it. Any ideas? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
| Why do android phones slow down after a couple of months? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:31 PM PDT As the title suggests, why do android phones slow down after a few months/ a year of use? Is there a hardware or software reason for that? [link] [comments] |
| Can someone explain the battery screen usage to me? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:28 PM PDT Here is a screenshot of my current battery usage since last full charge. Last full charge was 5 hours ago. Screen usage since full charge is 1 hour 22 minutes. I have a Moto x4. Android version 9 - PPWS29.69-39-6-6. This page says "Since last full charge, these are what has used battery. So last full charge = 100%. Adding these up I get 42% used (So I should have 58% left). However, I only have 11% battery left. How do I figure out what used the other 47% battery in the last 5 hours since a full charge? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:28 PM PDT My (now 1 year old) Xiaomi mi A2 lite has massive wifi issues. Normally my download speed is ~23mbps but on the moment I turn on my Bluetooth it drops down to ~3mbps. I recently updated to android 10 which should have fixed it, but it didn't. I have looked this issue online but none of the fixes they name work. Do any of you also have this problem/know how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:07 PM PDT Would anyone happen to know what audio codecs the Samsung S10e supports? I'm interested to know particularly if it supports Samsung's Scalable Codec for the Galaxy Buds, I've heard they make a big improvement over AAC as far as sound quality goes. Thanks! | Is there any way to disable the annoying snap-to-edge behavior while cropping screenshots? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 07:44 PM PDT Galaxy S20+ / Android 10 / OneUI 2.1 When I take a screenshot, and then try to crop it, a faint purple box shows up where it auto-detects lines in the photo and the crop edges "snap" to those detected lines, making it incredibly difficult to actually crop how I want to. The resulting screenshots are always a couple pixels off, so all my screenshots have a 2 pixel black border that looks terrible. I think this was part of the OneUI 2 update. Is there any way to disable the snapping behavior? Taking away fine tuning control from the user is terrible design. [link] [comments] |
| What SMS/ MMS App do you recommend? Especially for group texting? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 11:54 AM PDT I've been using Textra for a few years; have the pro membership with it, but I'm getting the feeling it's time to move on. I do a lot of group texting with my friends who have iPhones and the group messages come in hours late (or not at all) sometimes. Sending pics/ vids/ gifs is a mess as well. And before anyone suggests it - no they will not switch to an alternative app. Believe me, I've tried. I'm intrigued by Google Messages, especially because you can text from the PC which is great. But I really dislike how they won't let you run it in dark mode unless the entire phone is in dark mode. Additionally, I really like the little pop-up boxes for Textra that will come up when you tap the notifications so you can do a quick reply and see the message history. Does Textra do RCS? I can't see anything about it online, and I read the Textra description on the Play store. Any suggestions? My primary beef is group messaging, but the other things I mentioned are important too. Messaging from PC would be a huge plus. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

| Android 10: Display over other apps not working in certain Settings screens Posted: 22 Apr 2020 07:55 AM PDT I found something strange after upgrading to Android 10. When I am in the system Settings, and I go inside a sub menu (e.g. Settings > System), I cannot use an app's popup/overlay/ "Display over other apps" feature. It looks like the app is disabled in these sub menus. I can use the feature in the main Settings page, and also in such sub pages which look like new components (Activities?). For instance, if I go to Settings > System > System Update, I can see the overlay in the System Update screen (note that this screen does not have a settings-like UI), but I cannot see it on one step back. If at that point I go back a step (to Settings) using the device's navigation button, then I can again see the overlay on the Settings screen. Any fixes for this? Device: Mi A2 Lite, Android 10. | Posted: 22 Apr 2020 10:50 AM PDT Sorry if this is a FAQ, I couldn't find anything to solve it anywhere so far. I have an ASUS zenpad 3s, (non-cellular) and when I try to connect it to my WIFi network, it says it's connected, then as soon as I attempt a google search or open up a game that needs internet, it says connection lost. Then, when I exit out it says it reconnected. I'm pretty sure it isn't my network because my phone, console and pc all work fine connected to it. At the same time however the only time I'm able to get onto the internet on it is if I open up a hotspot for myself using my phone, which is something I don't want to do everytime I have to use it. Any help is greatly appreciated, this problem's been going on for a while for me. EDIT: I also tried a full factory reset on the device [link] [comments] |
| My Whatsapp was hacked today, New Exploit? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 10:28 AM PDT Hello all, i woke up today after working on my computer for few hours i got an sms saying "this is your whatsapp verification code" Whatsapp window saying : " Whatsapp Registration Requested", i knew someone is trying to breach in. i didn't react, i know the drill "if they didn't have the sms they shouldn't get access to my whatsapp!" 3 seconds later my whatsapp changed and started to say: this number is activated on another device!!!!!!!!! i clicked on send sms again, i didn't get any activation sms so i waited for few seconds and clicked on call me, no call come in, then i tried to enter the same sms i got before (which abviously the hacker needed to activate whtasapp on his device the firs time) it worked! HAHA! i recovered my whatsapp using the same sms he used, if he is using one at all. thank god i had 2 steps verification activated so its a matter of 1 minute till i got all my messages and whatsapp back. SO WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!? My phone is not hacked i think i never installed any application outside playstore(even tho there are malicious application approved on playstore) And i'm not someone new to the internet, i would never share an sms that come to me with ANYONE! i checked all requested URLs on my phone one by one check this picture : https://i.ibb.co/C2ZHLCC/4-4.jpg Things to note : an old Gmail of mine was used to login to from Microsoft(yes @ gmail.com from microsoft.com) 4 days ago from columbia, also using the same gmail someone enterd my ubisoft account, and whoever that person was trying to enter an old facebook account too, glad it was locked and even i cant access it now. I have kaspersky, malwarbye to scan with once in a week, and Hitman Pro. ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT THING TO MENTIEN : - Admin REMOVED 123456789 FROM THE GROUP PHOTO 1 : https://i.ibb.co/Vg8zfBr/1-1.jpg I reported this to whatsapp back then and get a automatic-like replay from support to links to learn about security and stuff, whatsapp are not taking me seriously. Now, with all that said, i think that whatsapp have PRETTY HUGE AMOUNT of exploits that even childs have access to them and it is not secure at all, and all i what i want to know weather my phone is hacked using whatsapp and can get access to my emails using my phone number? | Nova Launcher widget Google voice search not working Posted: 22 Apr 2020 10:17 AM PDT I can press the little microphone icon to bring up voice search and it get a small pop up that says "You audio will be sent to Google to provide speech recognition service." when that goes away a translucent layer comes up as if it was the search result, but there is nothing to display. When I back out of it and search with text, the voice search is not listed as a recent query. Using a goddamn 1-month old s10+ I'm attempting to upload a screen shot but perhaps they are not allowed here? It keeps failing. [link] [comments] |

| [HELP] HOW TO BACKUP DATA FROM A BROKEN DISPLAY PHONE Posted: 22 Apr 2020 10:02 AM PDT Phone just fell in the bathroom and the display is completely blank. The phone itself is working since it does not show switched off when called and Whatsapp Web seems to be working fine. Have a spare old phone that I will be using but is there a way to copy all the files and photos and whatsapp content to a PC or laptop? No repair shops or service galleries are open due to Corona. Also data wasn't backup on google or anything. I am mostly terrified about losing Whatsapp chats and other Whatsapp files. Can get most other files recovered after lockdown period is over. But I need Whatsapp rn and then the old files will be redundant by then [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 22 Apr 2020 09:56 AM PDT Hoped someone would help with a question/issue regarding defailt Android 10 navigation gestures. I can't seem to reliably hit the "home" swipe up gesture - half the time it brings up "recents" instead. It seems any swiping other than "perfect up" on the nav bar brings up recents. I figure there's got to be a setting I'm missing or something I'm doing wrong. S20 Ultra SD865 using One Hand+ to adjust "back" navigation to right side only. Xpost from another thread. | How to enable app restricted by device administrator Posted: 22 Apr 2020 09:46 AM PDT I had a package disabler for lg phones which I disabled Amazon shopping. The developer app got removed from the app store and now it won't let me enable the Amazon app again. I believe it had to do something with the new android software update. The developer made a new package disabler and when I try to enable amazon it says " restricted by device administrator" Does anyone know to fix this? I even tried to go to the play store and press enable and nothing happens. I just tried to download the Amazon shopping and amazon underground apk and tried to install it and it failed. Is there was to uninstall amazon shopping without root and then reinstall it again from the app store? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

| Access Internal Storage using Fastboot Posted: 22 Apr 2020 05:12 AM PDT Hi, I've got a friend who broke the screen of his phone, and we wanted to recover his data, but we couldn't, as the screen is so broken that we couldn't even allow data to be transferred to the computer. So I recently had an idea of using Fastboot, as we can use it even without touch screen, but I don't know if I can get into the storage with this method. The phone is a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, and bootloader is locked. I've never used Fastboot and I don't even know if it is usable without bootloader unlocking. Many thanks!! [link] [comments] |
| Nokia 7.2, terrible sounds recordings. Posted: 22 Apr 2020 08:55 AM PDT Hello I got a Nokia 7.2 recently and I really want to like it since it is my third phone after i kept my iphone 6 alive for many years. But I have experience that the audio in video calls gives me trouble and video recordings where the audio is terrible. My plan for to add a video for a demonstration but I dont seem to have that option sadly I wanted to add a video of me turning on my ps4, one thing that is very strange is that when the disc start to spin it sounds like there is water running in the background or some white noise. Beside everything is like a high pitch noise. everything that involved audio recording is very hard to watch because the recorded sounds are just too much. also another thing I have experience is when I have a whapapp video call it can start to have that ringing sound you get if you hold two microphones to close to each other. Do I have a faulty model or are Nokia 7.2 really that badly designed ? First bad thing i experienced was the SD card corrupting files if i tried to integrate it to the storage and also the audio. I really want to like the phone but it is getting a bit hard. [link] [comments] |
