Polls say that most of the people (at least enthusiasts) use dark mode on their phones. Why are there so many power users that want dark mode scheduling?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 03:31 PM PDT

I have recently seen some polls where over 80% of participants use dark mode wherever it's possible. Dark mode has always been the way to go on custom ROMs, etc. - generaly speaking for us, enthusiasts - it's a must have, isn't it? And now Android 11 may come with dark mode scheduling and I can see a lot of power users being excited about that. I wonder why is that. Personally, I would rather use dark mode 24/7 and I suspect most of our community would so too. Is there really anything to be excited about? I don't wanna be critical or anything, I just don't really see the point other than some people liking light mode with seamless possibility to reduce eye strain at night.

    Android (& Google Apps) Wishlist

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 11:10 AM PDT

    Android OS:

    • Airdrop function (Coming, yay! But not happy about the ultra close 1-foot initial link. That's ridiculous)

    • Gesture Improvements (Back gesture is too finicky at times, larger bar at the bottom would be more appealing, etc)

    • Markup Improvements (I find this bare bones and buggy AF)

    • Customize dark theme (Accent color, shade of grey/black, etc).

    • When pulling notification bar down, I wish it would blur the background, instead of the current form, which dims it. I don't need to see the background when I'm clearly focusing on the notifications.

    • Pin apps at the bottom in the overview menu (or recents menu). Predicted apps are cool but not 100% guaranteed to work.

    Google Photos

    • Better video editing

    • List the total amount of Photos and Videos (Fun little Easter egg thing!)

    • Secure Folder (Password Protected Folder)

    Messages

    • Auto delete texts after a certain #.

    • Adjust font size

    • RCS on by default

    • Messages built in GIF maker (since Gboard removed it)

    • Draw on an image before sending (like Allo used to do)

    • Google Photos Integration

    • Make the 3-dots typing indicator larger (easier to see) (And/or give it a background)

    • Built in Youtube player

    Youtube

    • Search button on the bottom of the screen!

    GBoard

    • Make Gboard easier to scroll when looking at GIFS, as in make the viewing area larger

    • When voice typing, have a custom word for sending the message!!

    • Space bar cursor improvement (like iOS, which allows you to use entire keyboard, not just spacebar)

    Notes/Keep

    • The app needs to be renamed. Just do it, no one will care.

    • Swipe to delete

    • Delete button shouldn't be hidden behind the 3 dot menu

    • When long pressing a note, the function bar should drop to the bottom instead of staying at the top. Which is dumb and hard to reach!

    Other

    • Revamp of the Google App. I find that thing to be INSANELY complicated and I'm somewhat of a tech nerd. Can you imagine showing that to non-techies or your parents? (Showed my mom, she said she'll never use the app because its too complicated)

    • Widen the gesture bar just a little bit. Looks strange as is, being so narrow

    • I feel Google Maps is getting bloated and difficult to navigate certain aspects

    • Remap Squeeze function (Pixel thing)

    • Get random apps (Google Photos, Google News) to use standard share menu. Not sure why they have a custom made one.
