Is there an idiot proof way to block Roblox on an Android phone without anyone noticing?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:34 AM PDT

My brother is addicted to Roblox. He throws insane tantrums, snarls, makes demonic noises, and attacks anyone who tries to wrest the phone from him. My father is a huge enabler in all this. With the coronavirus lockdown in place, he literally allows my brother to play Roblox more than 15 hours a day. You think piss jars are disgusting? My brother straight up pisses his pants, and allows it to marinate on the sofa. I want to put a stop to all this. I can't just put up regular blocking app, because my father's just going to force me to get rid of it. Is there an idiot-proof way to block the app? Just a simple, "this app cannot connect to the internet" or some shit like that? I don't want to break the phone.

Is there a way to spoof location that will also fool my SIM company?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 01:25 AM PDT

I'm aware of the Pokemon Go type apps that spoof location, but is there a way to spoof the location of my phone in regards to sending sms or calls? I'm abroad and will be able unable to go home indefinitely and have to use roaming rates, but if I spend a day or 2 texting in my home country then I can use my regular rates.

    Reading incoming numbers aloud

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 12:50 PM PDT

Okay, I have a Galaxy s10 on Verizon, and whenever I am wearing bluetooth headphones it reads me the phone number of whoever is calling me through the headphones, in addition to playing the ring tone like normal (unless that's silenced, but the number will read either way). I want the number reading to go away. Like so many I am now working from home, so pretty much every call is coming from the same place, and I don't need to hear it every time.

Besides, I like the ring tone I picked. I'd rather listen to that than the same number over and over.

I've tried a couple of things I saw online but none of them seemed to match this exact thing.

Anyone know how to turn it off?

Looking for help editing existing APN settings and also suggestions for workarounds if tethering isn't possible

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 12:22 PM PDT

Sorry if some of the information is incomplete, as I originally fixed part of the issue months ago and have been having trouble finding the original post.

also I have tethering on my plan, I'm supposed to have 10g a month, but my carrier sucks.

Issue with editing APN to allow tethering

So I currently live out in the middle of nowhere, and my school just switched to entirely online classes and most publicly available wifi hotspots are not an option due to quarantine. I have tethering on my plan but I can't use it because some combination of my ROM and how their service interfaces with my phone meant my APN settings weren't modified.

when I initially got the service I had no network access at all, just calls and text. I got mobile data working by inserting a new APN setting configured according to a site a found a few months ago, but I wasn't able to add dun to the APN type, because it wasn't allowed for some reason. I found a post from someone in a similar situation that suggested using DUN instead of dun as for some reason this was permitted.

Most of the post I see online are on inserting a new APN via adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.INSERT content://telephony/carriers -ei simId -1 however I could not figure out how to modify the command as is to edit the existing APN

    Potential Workarounds

I don't need a major amount of data, I'm a senior studying computer science, and most things that require connection I'm content to do on my phone. my primary concern is debugging errors, pushing changes to github, pulling changes, and potentially updating my system.

    bridged Repository

so I had an idea of setting up a LAN and some kind of remote repository on termux. I could push the changes made on my computer to the remote on my phone, and then push the changes from my phone to github. I could potentially do the same for system updates, but that sounds like a major security risk.

yet I have no freaking idea how to go about setting up something like this.

    Forward phone display

It would be super useful to be able to search documentation and bug hunt on my computer to limit having to switch back and forth between devices while debugging. I thought it might be a good idea to emulate the display or forward the browser on my browser to my computer via some kind of wifi, bluetooth, or usb connection. I know there are apps available for doing this but I none are avaible via my package manager(F-Droid). any way I can do this with the emulator availbe with android studio or adb?

I'm not getting any sounds with my notifications. This began this morning.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 12:13 PM PDT

None of the notifications I'm receiving have an accompanying sound. Notifications sounds are on, I have updated today (after the problem began), I have restarted my device, I have tried changing notification sounds (no sample sound would play). I have attempted to reach out to Samsung support but didn't get a chat reply which I'm ok with due to the virus. If anyone can please offer advise or is having the same problem I'd like to know. Thank you

    Reseting private mode?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:51 AM PDT

Tl;dr if I dont care about losing the files in it, is there a way to reset private mode?

So I set my private mode password a long time ago and forgot it. From other answers I found here they just say the files are lost and reset is necessary to get them back, but every case wanted to keep the files.

I don't want to keep the files, all I had there was some old weight loss pics. I just want the functionality of private mode again and dont care about losing those files. Is there any way to 'factory reset' the whole private mode function without factory reseting the phone? Is there some way to just have that fully reset and leave the non private mode stuff untouched?

    Thanks in advance

    SMS forwarding?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:31 AM PDT

Let me explain. On iPhones they have an option to share SMS's with other devices signed into the same iCloud account. Those devices can then receive SMS's and even send them because of text message forwarding.

Could I do something similar to that where when I get a text on my Android it will forward it to me on a different number and if I send the android a message back it will send it to the person that last texted me?

Sorry for being so specific but this is kinda exactly what I need.

Recover deleted calls in call history

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:30 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, I've deleted some of my call history log (all calls from one number). Is there a way to undo that? You can do it when the popup appears down the screen, but I had just a few seconds and didn't had time to react. Any other way to get it back?

    Thank you!

Houseparty app on Huwaei P30 Pro

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:16 AM PDT

Hi guys, due to being in self isolation, me and all my friends have started using this pretty fun app - Houseparty to chat and play games. On my Huawei P30 Pro though, I'm having the strangest issue when trying to use the back camera. I'm seeing a bunch of strange green lines. Of course this must be something to do with the app itself as my camera works fine literally everywhere else but does anyone know if there's a camera setting I could be using to fix this?

Would appreciate any help as it's the best way to connect/socialize with friends at the moment! Cheers!

Phone acting as if home button is being pressed

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:32 AM PDT

I am having an odd issue that started about a week ago and if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. Naturally, this happens randomly and I can't replicate it consistently. On a Motorola Z3 with the battery pack moto mod thing on Verizon.

I will be using my phone and seemingly at random and without warning, it will go back to the home screen or do whatever each program does when the home button is pressed, such as switching to picture in picture or bring up the search thing if it is already on my home screen. I do not need to be touching the phone and it doesn't seem to correspond to certain apps or activity. It also doesn't play the animation that would normally occur on the circle icon.

So far, I have tried restarting, cleaning the screen, uninstalling apps that have been installed or updated recently, since it started about a week ago, stock launcher and Nova launcher, connecting different Bluetooth devices, with and without the bumper thing that fits around the phone and nothing seems to affect whether or not it happens or the frequency. I checked and there are no gestures that should cause this, but I have disabled nearly all of them anyway, with no improvement.

Does anyone have any ideas for what might be wrong or maybe how to track down if an app or notification might be causing this? Thanks!

How do I change back my storage space to SD card after accidentally moving data to internal storage?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:29 AM PDT

I have configured SD card as internal storage and stored all my app data in it. Recently, I did an accidental move of data, and now all my data has been transferred to internal storage. I am not able to find any 'Move to SD card' option which was previously available before the move. I donot have any space left in internal storage. How do I revert the storage space back to SD card?

FRP woes: I have the password but it loops to “unable to sign in to device due to recent password change.” Have waited 24, 72 and more hours.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:25 AM PDT

TL;DR: 7" Galaxy Tab was reset. At FRP screen, original owner guessed and then reset their password. Then the tablet said to wait 24 hours. I did and it said wrong password. I clarified spelling and used the right password, and it again said wait 24 hours. I did, then waited 72, and over a week. Tablet still says I can't proceed for 24 hours.

My in-laws gave my son an older 7" Samsung Galaxy tablet (don't know which one becasue I can't get to setting>about). I did a factory reset, which triggered FRP. When we saw them I gave them the tablet to log in. It took them a few tries (they either forgot the password or account), I believe they reset the password that day. They gave me the new password, but when I tried to move forward on the tablet I got the "unable to sign in..." message telling me to wait 24 hours. So we left it for the day.

I tried again after 24 hours, and again after that. I read somewhere that it might take 72 hours, but that didn't work. I have left it for a long time (it's been weeks) charged but otherwise untouched. I have restarted it. Nothing gets past the "unable to sign in to device..." message.

Oh, from the "I don't know if it's relevant" category: when I first got back and tried it after 24 hours, I was putting in the wrong password (a handwritten 'v' looked like a 'u'). When that happened I got a different "wrong username/password" error. It wasn't until I clarified the right letter that I started getting the "please wait" error.

I am tempted to redo the factory reset, but want to ask before I go making things worse (if that's possible)

"Content Hidden" notification keeps reappearing on Galaxy A50

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:08 AM PDT

My father recently got a new Galaxy A50 on Verizon, and he keeps getting a full screen notification (similar to an alarm) that just says "Content hidden" (image here: https://imgur.com/z731S6W )

Regardless of whether he hits dismiss, or snooze, the notification comes back each day. I tried getting him to check his calendar and clock app to see if there were any recurring things causing the notification, but he didn't find anything.

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this or how to stop it permanently?

    Thanks

    Samsung Galaxy S7 tech help

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:36 AM PDT

My Samsung Galaxy S7 has just stopped working.

It happened when I deleted about 5GB worth of podcast files.

Initially it froze on the screen of a file manager, then the phone turned off.

I then managed to boot it again and it was stuck on the loading spinning lock screen without response for 30 mins.

I force rebooted and waited 15 minutes and it began to optimise apps.

When I then googled a british MP, the screen went black and the phone turned off.

I have tried the force reset button and have also tried holding the volume phone and power buttons. The phone screen remains black and does not light up.

I have also connected it to my charger for an hr with no response and also to my PC, which does not detect the attached device.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

I'm going to take out the battery.

If worse comes to worse, can I recover the the data stored on the phones internal memory? How would I do this?

    Thanks

why can't i download a game that I have enough space for?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:59 AM PDT

My settings say I have 1.70GB of available space, and the game I currently want to download says the download size is 60.53MB. My tablet sporadically refuses to download games this way, but at other times lets me install much larger games. According to Google Play, the game is compatible with my device.

Update: Cleared up some space from the apps it was recommend I delete in order to install, just to test. Now up to 2.47GB of open space and the game still says there isn't room to download.

I use a Galaxy S8 plus, and whenever i accidentally hold on the virtual home button (i don't use navigation bar) it quits to the homw screen, this is really annoying while playing games , and has nothing to do with hard pressing, can anyone help me?

Help me identify apps that are open.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:49 AM PDT

This is a problem that has plagued me since I started using phones.

I have 500 apps on my phone.

For instance if I just downloaded three apps from the play store within 5 minutes then forgot what I downloaded first. If I have that app open. How do I identify what app that is?

It's like. In the play store you can't even tell what you downloaded latest. It's like you download it and it goes to a vast ocean of apps.

I tend to go down rabbit holes very easily. I know. Stop it right? Not so easy.

The play store really lacks a lot of features that should be there.

TL:DR scenario. I don't recall what app i opened and want to know the name of the app is. All it shows is a stupid icon of the app. Not a name :(

Where to find full documentation on the apns-config.xml file in Android?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:23 AM PDT

I'm wanting to edit the apns-config.xml file in Android to add some entries for a new SIM that I am experimenting with. The SIM is from Twilio, and has multiple IMSIs that it switches between while roaming around the world.

The issue that I am finding is that they require their APN "super" to be set on any network they are roaming on. I'm able to manually set the APN on most networks, and this is working fine, but I want to update my apns-config.xml within our IoT device to automatically set the APN when using this SIM.

Looking in the source for Android 8.1 (which or device currently runs) I'm able to see entries for many different MVNOs etc. that roam on different networks world-wide. https://android.googlesource.com/device/google/wahoo/+/android-8.1.0_r29/apns-full-conf.xml

I'm trying to locate the detailed documentation on all of the detailed entries in these XML structures, specifically the "type" ...e.g. type="default, mms, supl, hipri, fota, dun". What are the possible values for "type", and what do these types mean?

The page here documents the entries: https://source.android.com/devices/tech/config/update

I'm just not able to find the detailed definitions of the "type" entries.

    I'd appreciate any assistance?
