Has Project Treble done anything to improve the system update situation on Android?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 05:22 PM PDT

Project Treble was hailed as the solution for Android's generally very poor system update situation. It was supposed to make system updates way easier by decoupling the low level driver stuff from the rest of the OS so that manufacturers wouldn't need to update all that stuff as well.

It also made it possible for phones to run a generic device-agnostic version of Android.

My question now is whether or not this became a reality. Are new phones today getting more numerous and frequent updates? Are they getting longer support? What about these generic Treble ROMs, did they ever go anywhere?
